  1. Poor little girl. I'm so sorry and I sure hope she is protected from further injury. She looked very worried in the picture.
  2. Hoping the owner gets everything she deserves. Hoping your Diamond heals quickly. Hoping you can feel safe walking your three houndies together again.
  3. After hulling and dremmeling for almost a year, Emmet's front foot corn is almost gone and hasn't bothered him in a couple of months. Now he's got one growing on one of his hind paws. It seems like every story is different.
  4. You must have been terrified. I'm glad things have calmed down a bit. In all the stuff I've read about greyhounds, I have never seen anything about watching for the buttons on back windows until this thread. We generally crack the window about an inch but I never thought about the dogs stepping on the button. I'm going out right now to lock mine.
  5. When Martin broke his toe, we had the plastic IV bags and a foot of snow. What a pain--off and on--and tieing the darn thing. When Yogi tore his webbing, the vet gave us a medipaw. We still had snow then and also freezing rain for days. It was perfect for putting on and taking off every time he went in and out. Kept the whole thing dry until it healed. It has velcro fasteners and can be kept and reused for the next injury. Yogi--who weighs about 75 pounds--wore a small size. If I were dealing with a splint, like your pup has, I'd order a medium, which would go higher up. The medipaw was about $20.00 and they have a website. I think every greyhound should come with one.
  6. Live bunnies and little chickies and ducklings that some people give to their kids at Easter.
  7. They eat dirt just because they are dogs. Yum yum.
  8. When Martin had a UTI, he drank quite a lot. The vet was surprised. He also peed a lot, not just frequently.
  9. Yup--doing everything right and suddenly BAM! I hope Soul is feeling better now. How about that snow squall yesterday??!!
  10. I use Dasuquin which I buy in 150 tablet bottles from my vet. Every morning the boys get a tablet with a dab of peanut butter. They love it. I have to say, going from one to three hounds, I need to find something a little less pricey.
  11. In January, Yogi had a dental--the cleaning procedure cost $232 with anesthesia, plus 1 extraction cost $150 for a total cost of $382.00. HOWEVER--at the same time, he had a laceration repair ($139.00) on his foot, bandage ($25.50), microchip ($25.00), shots and tests ($102), prescription for pain (8.50), for a whooping total of $682.00. It definitely saves to combine office visits and procedures whenever it is safe. We had brought him in the previous day for the vet to look at his torn webbing. She patched it up and suggested we return the following day to have it stitched during his scheduled dental while he was sedated.
  12. I give my boys a little sour cream when I run out of yogurt. They love it!
  13. Corns are just BAAAD! The crazy frustrating thing is how unpredictable they are. We hoped we were out of the woods with Emmet. The corn on his left front foot is nearly gone after almost a year of hulling, dremmeling, Therapaws, and kerasolve. For the past couple of months he has been walking perfectly normal on all surfaces. Now he has one developing on one of his rear feet and you can see the beginning of a limp and a hesitancy to put that foot down. I'm sorry you and your girl are going through this.
  14. I'm sorry your boy is limping. It's so scary. Do check for corns. Take a flashlight and examine each pad, rubbing on a little oil or water. Sometimes the corns are so small, they are barely detectable. We went through the whole x-ray routine and lots of $$$ before we discovered a tiny corn--small are round, almost flat to the surface. It must have been very deep and it's taken almost a year for it to be resolved. Just a thought. Good luck to you both.
  15. Martin ate a bird yesterday--crunch crunch--and "worms" was my first thought. Good luck and keep us posted.
  16. My thoughts are with you too. I hope she feels better soon. Aging is poopy in so many ways.
  17. Martin never had trouble peeing. After we had him for about three months, he started to have accidents in the house that were unpredictable. One time we were petting him in the living room and he just let loose. That was when we decided to take him in. Sure enough, he had a UTI that, thankfully, responded to antibiotics. The vet told us his case was strange because it was unusual to have lots of pee, as in volume. He was also drinking an awful lot.
  18. Regarding the stool guards--I ordered ours from the Greyhounds Only website, along with an extra muzzle. It cost little and came fast. In the meantime, you can always duct tape a muzzle, inside and out. For Martin, his most active licking time is at night and we muzzled him then when his broken toe was healing. Also, you might try baby socks.
  19. When our vet suggested an E-collar for Martin, we tried a duct-taped muzzle instead. It worked just fine.
  20. What wonderful news! I agree with those who say you should follow up with the folks who made the mis-diagnosis. Even without suing, you may be able to re-coup some of that $$$. Best wishes to you and your pup.
  21. Ah, the mystery yard injuries--Our guys had leg scrapes, broken toes, and webbing cuts this year in our yard. The big challenge each time was keeping the dressings dry with all the rain and snow we get. The last time--Yogi's webbing--the vet gave us a medipaw waterproof covering that was perfect for snow. It was size small--just big enough to keep the foot dry. It was soooo much better than plastic bags or IV bags. If you decided to go this route, your girlie would probably need one of the longer ones since the injury is higher up on her leg. I know you can find them on line. Good luck to her and to you. She seems to be taking it in stride. Nice to have a buddy for sympathy.
  22. Just responding to the poll...Last year we walked the boys twice a day, 1.5 miles each time. Nice walks, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Mostly places around our neighborhood or over at the campus. When Emmet started to have major problems with his corn, our vet told us to lay off the walking on pavement. We got Martin last summer and started walking, with a Therapaw on Emmet. Then Martin broke his toe and we stopped walking again. We added Yogi and the three houndies run around our back yard in a way that Martin and Emmet would never run around with just the two of them. (Right now the ice is a problem in the back yard so no one is getting much exercise there.) I fell twice last winter on ice and there is no way I'm going to risk walking them if it's not safe for them or me. On nice days like yesterday, when the ice and snow had melted from the road, my daughter and I took all three out for a great walk. We'll probably do the same today. They enjoy it and it's good for all of us. Next week, who knows? My point is that it all depends--not just on the hound but on the people, too.
  23. Our three are always muzzled when left alone in the house. They expect to be muzzled and it's no big deal. We also muzzle when all three are outside. I'm a big fan of muzzling.
  24. Geez oh man! Between regular visits and dentals, broken toe (Martin), UTI (Martin), corns (Emmet), lacerations (Emmet, Yogi and Martin)---every month and often twice a month for three hounds. Thank DOG for pet insurance!!!
