  1. Welcome from the roo crew of South Carolina!
  2. That's who I am talking about. What a beauty!
  3. It doesn't say anything near her picture...
  4. Hello Keystone Gin...if you weren't female I would petition to take you home. (My female Dal will not allow females in the house but her)
  5. I got lucky and have 3 within my radius....but have to admit that I got both my boys from one....the one I work with. My galgo, however, we're getting out of Denver as there are not a lot of galgo rescues in the states. Are you looking at a particular dog or are you going to let them match you? My first I saw a picture of and immedietly wanted him. He was just coming off the track. My second picked me at meet and greets. He's a timid, spooky boy with everyone but me. He buddied up to me and felt at ease and happy...and hasn't left my lap or side since!
  6. Wow...French royalty. She sounds like a chore. It's no big deal. I would just hate for somebody like that to affect a decision to rehome a wonderful grey. It's ok, I wasn't saying anything that you said was bad. I just wanted to make sure you didn't think all were like that. Greys are not for everybody and I have met a few people myself who adopted and then returned b/c they wanted a dog that a grey just can't be. I'm glad you are doing your research and taking to people. I know a lady who returned one recently because he wouldn't play fetch, run hours a day with her kid, and cuddle on the couch with her. I'm thinking she was looking for a lab or something. Now...if somebody would just tell my beloved fiance' that no matter how many times he throws the ball my boys are not going to get it....lol.... Excitement is understandable! Have you looked at only the one group or have you shopped around? I've heard good things about them.
  7. GPs may or may not be an issue. I have 2 parrots and the dogs don't ever bother them. We even had a passing rescue bunny and the boys were good. Lucius is super high prey drive boy but he's learned if it's in the house, or in a cage, it needs to be left alone. However, in a store or outside it's fair game. Application and adoption process can take 1 week or more...but not many weeks or months. Most of the time it won't be more than 2 weeks...they need to make room for more dogs after all. They usually involve vet references, personal references, home visits and commitment. Usually the dog is brought to the home visit. However, Lucius I adopted without ever meeting him....basically got him right off the track...Timmy I met and we fell in love. Our Galgo was the same process and we haven't met him yet....he's in Spain right now.
  8. I would wager to say that she didn't work too closely with a greyhound rescue or care about them to say they have too many issues and not to adopt. If she'd ever met a hound and had a heart she would encourage adoption. I knew a lady who said things like that. When it came down to it....she had been rejected for adopting a hound and resented it. Her "working closely" was her trying to adopt. I would also like to meet the grey who is aloof and simply needs a home...they may be more aloof than, say, a lab or boxer or more commonly kept dog, but they will be more loving and commited in their own way. I know I wouldn't have greys if they just simply needed homes. They just want families and love. They steal your heart and run full speed ahead with it and before you know it you're the one who simply needs to live with them for life to be complete. We have 2 greys, we've adopted a Galgo that is flying over from Spain this fall, and we'll be fostering soon. No regrets. Ever.
  9. Welcome from South Carolina!
  10. Hello from South Carolina! what a beauty!
  11. Well, we are picking our Galgo up from the airport and bringing him home a week after we move...so moving should't be the deciding factor. We're going to be moving 2 greyhounds, a dalmatian and 2 birds in the meantime. Just make sure you have a home to move to with him.
  12. She looks wonderful. So, so glad she's ok! I think everyone kinda fears that hapenning so it's encouraging and heartwarming to see a beautiful girl pull through!
  13. So glad that he's made it through and coming home! You sound pretty prepared. Are you going to leave him toys/bone/kong/something to occupy time and keep him down and busy?
  14. We've been cleaning them weekly with a rinse the vet gave me. My dal's ears are always nasty....you can clean them weekly and they always look like they've never been cleaned!
  15. She did the cytology and it is yeast for both of them. Lucius is over it but now we're batting it with Timmy.
  16. I'm wondering how many of you have had ear infection problems with your dogs? My group director tells me that it's not too common and since she has so many and knows so much more that I do I trust her. But my vet has diagnosed both my boys with them right after I got them. I know the ears were wax and dirty, but they never mess with them like dogs who have ear problems tend to do. I'm wondering is he's misdiagnosing or if it's a problem that pops up and our group just hasn't had much issue with it and I just got "lucky."
  17. We're very sorry for your loss. My boys will both wear their Hope for Hounds collars this week in her memory.
  18. Thank you! Where is Blythewood?? Thank you. Yes, we are very excited! If you shop at the Laurens Road petsmart you may see us...we do meet and greets there every 3rd sunday now. You are Welcome! I was there last Saturday, we may have already met! Laurens road pet Smart is just around the corner from us. We were the ones that was waiting for the haul and taking the babies to Charlotte. I had read a lot about the group and wanted to meet the directors and I think they are "WONDERFUL" people that do a lot for the greys. I can tell you that you are with a "GREAT" Group. I look forward to being able to meet you soon. Lots of happiness with your babies! Unfortunetly I wasn't there last saturday, we do sundays. But since Laurens Road is near you we may meet sometime. You were taking babies to Charlotte? I love the directors of our group! They are amazing and so helpful. Do you work with a group?
  19. The best book I've read (and I have a bookshelf full because I'm a research nut) was Adopting the Racing Greyhound by Cynthia A. Branigan. I read the Retired Greyhounds for Dummies as well and it was good. I just recommend as much research as possible because everyone has a differant idea. I bought a leash called "the ultimate leash" which I find indispensible. It has a built in traffic handle which we have to have because they bolt so hard and fast that I can grab the close traffic handle to stop them from choking themselves or hurting themselves. My boys walk well on a leash until a cat or bunny comes. (I took the cat/small dog aggressive ones because I have no cats or small dogs). That way you can walk on a normal length but have that extra security. We also use tag collars to keep tags on so they don't have to wear martingales in the house. And my boys love, love, love stuffed toys with floppy arms and legs.
  20. Thank you. Yes, we are very excited! If you shop at the Laurens Road petsmart you may see us...we do meet and greets there every 3rd sunday now.
