He gets his stitches out in about a week. In the meantime he's enjoying lots of globs of cream cheese (which I hide his pills in )

Toby's doing well today. Thanks for asking, everyone! He's needed much less tramadol today and even went for a long walk with Dakota and me this afternoon!

He's home! The vet said Toby's surgery went great and that he was a model patient. I knew he would be, this dog is a saint! Here's what he looks like now. A little rough between the shaved eye area, the swelling and the stitches. But she said he should feel like a new dog in a couple of days, stitches come out in 10-14 days and of course the fur will grow back. Thanks so much for all the prayers and good wishes!!!

Cindy, I saw this on facebook but wanted to post on here too. I am so sorry for your loss of Brady. I loved seeing his handsome, gentle face and hearing all about him. He was so lucky to have been part of your family. I will miss reading about Brady. Rest in peace, sweet baby.

Hi everyone, we got a call back from the UF Vet School a few minutes ago and they told us that Toby made it through his surgery just fine. He needs to stay the night at the vet school as they want to keep him on heavy duty (injectable) pain meds for rest of day and night. We will be able to pick him up sometime tomorrow. Thanks for all the positive thoughts, wishes and prayers. I'll continue to keep you guys posted.

Hi everyone, as some of you know, Toby has been dealing with glaucoma for the last 8 or 9 months. It's only in his right eye. At first we were controlling the eye pressure with 3 different eye drops, 3x/day. Recently the eye pressure shot up again and he has been up to 5 different eye drops 3x/day. Then he started developing a corneal ulcer. The pressure is still high and at his last visit, they told me he has inflammation in the middle of his eyeball as well, and the ulcer hasn't healed much. He has been blind in his right eye for the last month or so. So, with an eye that is blind plus causing him pain, we really have no choice but to have his right eye surgically removed. I am upset over it but there is nothing else we can do. He has surgery on Friday. Everyone please think good thoughts for our sweet 10 1/2 year old boy.

I just found out that the introduction took place in a grassy area down the street from the Boston's house. So, neutral territory.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I don't know how or where the intro took place. The thought of the greyhound finally getting fed up/snapping/killing the little dog really scares me. I will share this info with some of our group members.

Judy, to answer your question...no the dog has never shared its home with another dog. And the hound in question, although he is NOT cat safe, doesn't know what to make of little dogs and backs away from them!

We have a potential adopter who has fallen in love with one of our hounds. This hound has been waiting since Feb to be adopted. The only knock against him is that he's not cat safe. No problem, the adopter's son is allergic to cats, so they'll never have one. Great. They passed the home visit. Great. When the greyhound was introduced to their senior boston terrier yesterday, the boston terrrier lunged at the hound and tried to attack him. No one was hurt. The hound did not try to attack the boston terrier. So the potential adopter said, "They don't get along. we'll have to wait and find another greyhound that our boston gets along with." Today she's called back and said she still really wants that hound. She wants to hire a professional dog trainer, at her expense, to facilitate the introduction to see if it would go any smoother. What do you think? Can they be re-introduced smoothly if the first attempt went poorly? What would you recommend? Muzzles for both dogs? I bet the old Boston doesn't have a muzzle. Any advice would be appreciated.

Shannon, what a beautifully written, heartfelt tribute to a beloved member of your family. I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Argos. I always enjoyed reading stories about him and looking at pictures of that handsome boy. Rest in peace, sweet Argos.

Yes, I am bringing Dakota with me to the memorial service as he is a GCGA alumni hound.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but will be attending his celebration of life service in Clearwater with a couple of my fellow Gold Coast Greyhounds of Gainesville volunteers to pay my respects. I believe I read that due to his founding of Gold Coast Greyhounds, he was able to find homes for about 5,000 greyhounds, and he personally fostered nearly 400 hounds himself. Rest in peace. The hounds did indeed lose a best friend.

Oh no!! I am so sorry to read about your loss of gorgeous Maya. At only 7 years old--so heartbreaking, I know, because that's how old our precious Robin was when we had to say goodbye to him too. It's so unfair. I am so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace at the Bridge, Maya. Robin will be glad to go with you to chase all the little fuzzy critters up there.
