I totally agree. I was hoping to see some people who haven't had to deal with cancer answer the poll, but no one has so far. I have two greys and have only had them for four years. I am afraid to answer that they haven't had cancer because I don't want to jinx them! However, in order to protect them, I do have a whippet who is a dermal hemangiosarcoma survivor.

I was wondering who got him! I went to see him on Sunday and he was GONE! Congratulations!

I am sure that you know, but that stuff tastes rather nasty. Very bitter. When I was using it with my IBD grey, I put it into capsules so he could just swallow it down without tasting it. Some will tolerate it on their food, but no such luck for me. I, too, ordered it on line myself (the empty capsules, too) Good luck!

We just went through this with our whippet. He is also raw fed and had lamb the night before. It had fat in it but he had eaten fattier meat before without problem, but not this time. We were fortunate that we caught it really early. I actually thought he was beginning to bloat. He has severe SA and and we were able to keep him home. He received an injection of pain medicine, which lasted for 8 hours. He was put on antibiotics, carafate slurry and pepcid. I also withheld food for 24 hours. I spent a couple days constantly syringing water into him. He didn't care for it, so I was able to add low sodium chicken broth, which he liked. He is now eating pasta and steamed chicken and all is well! Hang in there!

I just asked my vet the exact same question! I was told that there is some looking at it, but that there hasn't been a causal link established at this point. That wasn't as comforting as I would have liked. I have a whippet that was chipped before I got him and he has had cancer. I certainly don't want anything else to happen to that poor little guy!

Congratulations! I have two greys and adopted a senior whippet last February. It has been a greyt combination. The whippet just thinks that he is a small greyhound! My alpha female grey has decided he is a pup and treats him better than the other grey. I do find that he gets colder easier than the greys - coats and jammies a must. He is also a true snuggle-bug and loves to sleep under the covers! Enjoy

First and foremost - my condolences to your loss. That scenario is one of the toughest. Mine do just fine being home alone for 10 hours. I have two a male and female. The male won't even bother to get up and go outside sometimes when we come home. Must be in the middle of a dream or something! As for interactive play, however, they both looked at us as if we were crazy. Once in a while they will chase a stuffy that was thrown but then drop it and wander off. They absolutely LOVE going for walks to different places and exploring on their own terms and time frames. Those are some of the best times that we have together. Welcome!

Zoe has those. I leave them alone unless one gets really big and then I wash it with a betadine/water solution (to look like tea) and put neosporin on it. It will reduce. My vet also said that we could use Stridex pads on the area if we wish, but since it doesn't bother her (her harness is even over the area) that we have just left well enough alone.

My Dante loses his winter fur and his thighs are bald big time all summer. His thyroid is fine, he is just the balding type of guy. He has done this every year, so since he feels and tests fine, I just chalk it up to greyhound MPB (male pattern baldness)!

Welcome from another Marylander! You might be kind of close to us - we live on the Maryland side of the river from Leesburg. I travel there to the outlets. We have two greyhounds and a whippet, amongst other critters! Keep us posted on your progress. I, too, remember my home visit - even made sure the kids looked presentable. All they did was look at our backyard and bring over the most enormous grey so we could see how much space one would take. I thought my DH would have a stroke when the grey rested his head on our kitchen table! Then, when we got the call, it was that grey's half brother! Half the size, too TTL - wasn't ready for a pony in the house. Now, bring it on! It is always exciting and rewarding. Congratulations. Cindy
