  1. After a gum biopsy, we got the results of the tests. Baby Girl has lymphoplasmacytic stomatitis. But according to OSU they have had good results with a regime of immuno-suppressant medication. Next week I will start her on Azathiopene once a day for a week then cut it back to once every couple of days. If all goes well that should fix her up and she gets to keep her teeth.
  2. Max, go run free and know that you mom and dad will always love you and though you are not goosing them when they get outta the shower to dry off, it's just one of many memories they will always have Greg
  3. The vet drained the hematoma and medicated it and then vet wrapped it You can see in the pic about the last 6 inches of her tail are wrapped. Her and Tessa have been hanging out a lot since I brought home Thursday evening. Vet told me to just leave it wrapped up until it almost falls off on its own. The tail had almost no fur so the exposed skin would be tender
  4. Will this ride ever end?? The night before I took Baby Girl to the vet for the gum biopsy, a rather large hemotoma developed on the end of her tail. by the time I got her to the vet Thursday afternoon the "Happy Tail" decided to open up So now she has had a gum biopsy and the last 6 inches of her tail are wrapped up in vet wrap. During the biopsy they removed a couple of pre-molars because of swelling and infection. Hopefully should get the results in a couple of days. We have her on anti-biotics for the teeth removal and some tramadol. she is loving the fact that she is getting some canned food for a few more days while he gum heals up. When I found out what the biopsy results are I will pass them along
  5. Bijou had a dental a few months ago. She is 12 and except for the lose of quite a few teeth, she did fine.
  6. Rest well Grace, then get dem rabbits across the bridge
  7. As some of you know, my foster pup Baby Girl suffers from redden gums. The group vet thinks it might be CUPS..Chronic Ulcerative Paradental Stomatitis (CUPS), is a disease caused from a hypersensitivity to bacteria contained within the plaque which coats the teeth. And suggested removing all her teeth. She isn't getting any of the ulcers on her gums so we talked to an immunologist at OSU. He feels it is some other Immune issue that I can't even begin to pronounce. But in order to know for sure I am taking Baby Girl to the vet Thursday for a biopsy of her gums and then it will be sent of to be tested. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, it will be what the OSU docs think it is. And very treatable with some meds and she gets to keep all her teeth. I take her in at noon and they put her under, get the sample and a few hours later I bring her home. Not sure when we will get the results back but crossing my fingers. The gum issue has put her way down on the "wanted" list by potential adopters because of the possible teeth extractions. If it is the simple thing of meds she will move right up I am sure. Please cross your fingers, houndies cross your paws and we will see. I'll update when I know more Greg
  8. Everyone in the Phoenix area..Good news..ALL the Costcos now carry the Nature's Domain Salmon Grain-free.No longer do you have to drive to Cave Creek or the 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright. I found it today at the Costco at 44th and Thomas. Then I called another Costco and they check on their computers and all the Costcos now carry the Salmon. Just thought I'd let ya know Greg
  9. It's been a few months, but if I recall correctly, I got it for around $32 for 35lb. bags
  10. Sorry for your loss..But Heart is now pain free and chasing bunnies with all our other bridge angels
  11. OK Beanster...Get better soon and get back to ruling the roost. You know if you aren't there everything is in chaos. They need your experience ans wisdom Greg
  12. I've gotten some at the Fry's Pharmacy..I think they have a list of the meds they ahve
  13. I free feed..The only issue I have had is when I get a new foster that was use to eating with 20 or more greys at the same time is that I would put out food and they would chow like there was no tomorrow. But after a few days they realize there is always food and they then go into grazing mode like my girls. When I am not at work I am usually at home and can see the bowls from the living room. When I hear the crunching I will look to see who is having "dinner" so I know they are all eating. When you work 3am-noon, it's not easy for me to keep them on a 5-6am breakfast and 5-6p dinner schedule. It's been working well for me the last 10 years. Greg
  14. Not all the Costcos out here have the Nature's Domain..But they do have a grain-free dog food called Pelican Bay, I believe that is the name. I have gotten that for my girls and they love it. so if you want to try grain-free but you can't find Nature's Domain, you may want to give that one a try. It is around $28 for 30 lbs. Pelican Bay Salmon Meal with Garden Vegetables Dry Dog Food Estimated Dry Matter Nutrient Content Protein = 27% | Fat = 17% | Carbs = 49% Ingredients: Salmon meal (preserved with mixed tocopherols), peas, potato, salmon, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), flaxseed, natural flavor, sweet potato, dicalcium phosphate, canola oil, potassium chloride, salt, tomato pomace, cranberries, blueberries, choline chloride, minerals (zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, cobalt proteinate, selenium yeast), yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Aspergillus niger, Bacillus subtillis), taurine, chicory extract, vitamins (vitamin A acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), Yucca schidigera extract, calcium iodate, rosemary extract Fiber (estimated dry matter content) = 4.4% We are pleased to note that, unlike many fish meals, this particular item appears1 to be ethoxyquin-free. Greg
  15. Never heard back from them..Odd, because they usually answer back pretty quickly. When I switched from the Kirkland to the grain-free there was no upset tummy and a day or two of softer poop, but then it firmed up and the output was less..woohoo!! With 4 hounds in the house poop patrol was becominhjg a 2nd full time job.

  17. Welcome from Ellie, Bijou and Tessa here in Phoenix
  18. I switched to the Nature's Domain months ago for my 3 furrkids. It really helped with Ellie's "Wendy's Frosty" poops.. (now who wants a roadtrip to Wendy's?? ) And they don't feel like they need to eat as much. The only downside is that the only 2 Costcos that carry it in Phoenix are about a 40 minute drive. So when I go, I take the Houndmobile and buy 3 or 4 bags.
  19. I sent an email to Costco asking about a possible change of the formula of the Chicken and Rice food. When I get an answer I will post what I get here Greg
  20. Sorry to hear about Spencer, I know the special bond one has with their first. But now Spencer is running free of any pain and you will be together again Greg

    Run free Echo....
  22. Today (Sun. 3/13) marks 2 years since my heartgirl Isis crossed the bridge due to the Big C. She was my first in a series of greyhounds to know me as Dad or more likely as the Food Guy.. She had 13 good years on this Earth 9 of those were an even better life as the princess of the Magic Foster House. Now she rests on my mantle with her favorite collar, watching over me and all the hounds that have come through on their way to new homes. No matter what happens or how I feel, Isis always has that special place in Daddymans heart. Here's to you sweet Isis..Someday we will see each other again and you will have my shoulder to lay your head on to fall asleep.
  23. Well, Bijou is home and missing several teeth. More then we thought. She had some gum issues and all the tiny toofers between her canines on the lower jaw are gone, on of the smaller canines (which I was pretty sure was coming out) and a couple of back molars. But she is home, groggy and I thought would not want to eat a thing. Silly me She wolfed down two count them TWO cans of food. Let out a big belch, drank a little water had half a Rimadyl and is snoozing on the big futon mattress. She will be on the canned stuff for several more days but she appears to be happier now that the bad teeth are gone.
  24. I know a dental should not be a big deal, but Bijou is 12 and getting a little frail so I worry. I can tell there will probably be an extraction or two. I take her to our GPA vet Monday morning bright and early and if all goes well back home that afternoon. Bijou was my 2nd houndie and I think she has something in her DNA that says bad teeth... My first, Isis, lived to 13 before the Big C took her and never had dental issues. So if there is extractions, this is a whole new area I have no experience with. If there are any teeth extractions, I was wondering if it should feed her some soft canned foods for a few days after just to give the gums some healing time?
