  1. We just got back from bringing Hobbes from our vet to the e-vet for the night. He was so happy to see us, he even gave a smile and a little tail wag. It was short lived but at least it was something. I just wish he could tell me whats wrong so I could fix him. I'm praying the ultrasound holds some answers. I hate seeing my man like this.
  2. I just got off the phone with the vet but unfortunately I don't have to much more info. He has been at the vet on IV with an antibiotic drip since around 7am, but there hasn't been any improvements in his condition. He is still very lethargic and seems to be in pain despite being given a metacam injection. His heart rate and breathing have increased since yesterday and he continues to pant at almost any movement he does. I thought he was going for an ultrasound today but there was a miss communication so it's scheduled for tomorrow morning. He is getting more blood work done today to see if anything has changed and test for a few more things the vet thinks may be going on. I wish I had more info but that's were it stands right now. I've also been in contact with Dr. Couto office and sent them all his blood work. Hopefully he may find something our vet missed.
  3. His RBC was 9.8 so even elevated for a greyhound. His BUN was 5.7 and the normal range is 2.5-9.6 so right in the middle for that one. My vet didn't catch it but normal WBC for a greyhound is 2.0-6.0 and other dogs it's 5.5-16.9 his was 8.39 so high for a greyhound. I'm going to mention it tomorrow.
  4. Hobbes is back at home tonight. He is still quite sick but my vet isn't staffed over night so they felt it was better he be at home then alone all night. He was on IV fluids all afternoon and is no longer dehydrated and his fever has come right down so his condition is currently stable. His file was sent to the e-vet down the road so if his condition worsens we can bring him there asap. So far they are still stumped as to what is going on. The x-rays all came back normal, but there were some odd findings with the blood work. He has an elevated red blood cell count as well as a very high bilirubin reading (84mmol/L normal is 0-15). The vet doesn't know how to proceed from here. He is going back at 7am tomorrow to be put back on IV and hopefully find out whats happening. I thank everyone so much for your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to me.
  5. I don't think he ate anything at the park, he isn't one to eat things off the ground. He had actually skipped breakfast already at that point but he does that now and again so I didn't think anything of it.
  6. Just got back from the vet. Hobbes is really not doing well, but the vet doesn't know why. His Temperature is 40C (104F), extremely lethargic and he is very dehydrated. He is doing these tiny little steps both with his front and back legs, but in the orthopedic exam he didn't react as if he was sore. The vet doesn't think it's leg or back pain. I left him there and they are going to do blood work and x-rays to hopefully see what is going on. It was heart breaking to see him, he just lay flat out on the floor of the vets. He is my so nervous boy and usually doesn't lay down ever in public, and if he does it's just to Sphinx. People and dogs were walking by and he didn't even look up, just lay there. Just yesterday he was running around at the dog park I just can't understand why he is so bad today. Sorry I'm rambling, I'm just sick with worry.
  7. Hobbes is really off today. He isn't eating or drinking. He is panting non stop and is very lethargic. On a trip out this morning he was walking like a little old man. I'm very worried about him. He has a vet appointment in 30 minutes and I just hope it's nothing.
  8. Congrats!! He looks like quite a clown, he's just to cute.
  9. I don't think it is from scratching. It extends all the way down the canal. It's hard to see from the pictures but it's a larger area deeper inside the ear. I just don't see how he could scratch that deep down.
  10. I was petting Hobbes a few minutes ago and noticed his left ear was really red. It looks like broken blood vessels or brushing or something like that. It's on the inside of the ear but also extends down in to the canal. Has anybody seen anything like this. Also it wasn't like that earlier today and I'm sure he didn't hit his head on anything. It's been raining most of today so it's been a quite day at home.
  11. That was beautifully written.
  12. Just saw this thread now. poor baby, I hope he heals quickly and uneventfully.
  13. I'm having a similar problem. Hobbes is 8 1/2, within the last month or so he has been having accident frequently. It's the same sort of thing, some days he can hold it an entire work day (9 hours). Other days he pees right in front of us after only being out a couple hours before. He had a full work up by the vet. Although a UTI was never confirmed the vet sent me home with some antibiotics. He has been on them a 1 1/2 weeks but he still had an accident the other day in our elevator. Once the full course of antibiotics are done I'm going to bring him back to the vet. I'm worried that this is the start of incontinence, although he seems a little young for that.
  14. I can't believe it took you this long to join GT!!
  15. I got the results of his blood test. His liver enzymes looked good His blood cells indicated they were fighting off an infection so the vet thinks the infection may be higher in his urinary tract. I'll continue with a course of antibiotics. His thyroid was low, but she said with an infection and being a greyhound she wasn't to worried. I'm so relieved, I had my self so worried.
  16. He hadn't had a lot of water. I took him as soon as I got home from work, so he had been sleeping for 8 hours. He doesn't tend to drink much when he is alone. Do you know what causes a low U.S.G ? The vet really didn't explain anything to me yet.
  17. He is 8 1/2, I currently feed Nutro. I've only had him 6 months and tried a couple foods before I found one he would eat. He has only been on Nutro a few months. I'm probably going to switch him depending what the vet says.
  18. opps, I misspelled disease in the title and post. Can't figure out how to chance it.
  19. Hobbes has been having issues urinating in our house where he simply can't seem to hold it, I'm sure it is medical. The first urine test came back negative for an infection but was preformed by my regular vet who said everything was normal. I got another urine and blood test done today by a grey savvy vet. The urine test again was negative for an infection but the vet felt some other values seemed off. First off the specific gravity (how well they concentrate there urine) was low for a greyhound. I believe it was 10.20. She also said he had Bilirubin (sp) of +2 in his urine which could indicate a liver problem. The vet has to wait for the blood test results before she will know what is going on in his liver. I don't have the faintest clue about liver deceases or their treatments. So I'm a little worried about the whole thing.
  20. I really feel ripped off now. I had Hobbes teeth done when I first brought him home. The bill was close to $900, although he did have some nasty teeth w/10 extractions.
  21. He did have his urine tested about two weeks ago. Results came back normal. He isn't drinking anymore then normal, although in my opinion he has always drank a lot of water. Some days he will drink 2- 4cup bowls dry.
  22. I noticed today that Hobbes has a thick whiteish yellow discharge coming from his penis. Has anybody heard of this? He has an appointment on Wednesday should I try to get him in sooner?
