  1. I know nothing of chemo, but send my prayers to Polli. I hope she bounces back from this chemo session quickly.
  2. Hobbes has no permanent kidney damage and has made a full recovery!!!! His blood work from yesterday came back NORMAL!!! Only his bilirubin (liver) is slightly elevated (normal is 0-15 his is 18) but all the other levels are exactly where they should be. I knew things had improved but I wasn't expecting it to be this good. There were times we didn't believe he was even going to make it to this now, I'm just so happy. He is doing great in every other way as well. His weight is now 31.5kg up from 28.9 he just has another 2kg to go to be back where it was. He has now made it 3 days without an accident and can make it for longer periods without needing to go outside. The vet believes he will get completely back to normal with this too. I can't thank everyone enough for their kind words, support and prayers during these past few weeks. I only hope all the parents of sick hounds will be able to make a happy post just like this one. Before After Just wanted to add, If anyone else has good news to post feel free to add it. I think we could all use it with all the sadness that often comes out of Health and Medical.
  3. Prayers to Waldo and your family. I sure hope you find some answers soon.
  4. Not trying to scare you, but these symptoms sound a lot like what Hobbes initially had. He ended up being a very sick dog and still isn't better. They suspect it's lepto but it's still inconclusive. His first blood test came back normal except an elevated bilirubin value and a high red blood cell count. By the next morning his kidney and liver enzymes were very elevated. Is Ben refusing all food even treats? Is he vomiting? How is his gait, is it slow and short? Having just been through all of this I would insist on a lepto test of his urine. You know your dog best, if you think there is a problem there probably is. I'm keeping Ben in my prayers. Hope you find the answers soon and it's nothing.
  5. His urine was cultured and came back negative. He has been having many accidents indoors since he came home on Saturday but the vet believes it is his kidneys causing this.
  6. I did a complete tick panel in the beginning. I even paid extra to get a more complete test of rarer TBD that they don't usually test for. Everything came back negative. Just wanted to add when his heart worm was done back in May he had been tested for erlichiosis. So he was tested twice for that one. Thanks for all your help. I had forgot to mention I ran the test because so much was going on at the time.
  7. He is acting and I believe feeling much better. All and all Hobbes is doing good. His personality is back to the same Hobbes I've always known and loved. He has a lot more energy and doesn't seem to be having any pain walking. Slowly he is starting to eat more. He is eating around 2 cups a day now, not nearly enough but much improved from before. I do have to spoon feed him to get that much in him and I realize I may be creating a monster but I'll leave the tough love for when he is all better.
  8. They weren't what we were expecting. Hobbes had a very weak positive for 2 of the 6 strains that they test for. The vet is now thinking it probably was not lepto at all as he should have had a a stronger positive. We tested for it fairly early so that may have contributed to the weak results, so we are going to retest in 3 weeks to see if anything has changed. It isn't really the news we wanted as now we don't know what we are dealing with. Since the treatment seems to be working we will stick with it for now. He is going in tomorrow to get his urine retested just to be 100% sure he does not have a UTI. He will also have more blood work to see if there has been any improvement with his kidneys and liver.
  9. Well Hobbes has always been kinda on the soft side of thing when on kibble. When on raw it was the opposite extreme. Now that he is recovering from lepto which has caused acute kidney disease his poop is perfectly formed. It's actually the best I've ever seen it, I even told the vet I was so amazed. So it can't be a great indicator of health in my opinion, because the boy is far from healthy at this point.

    Gumby

I'm so sorry for your loss.
  11. Yes he was on a IV for 5 days I think he was on quite a high rate, I guess he does have a lot of water to get rid of.
  12. Hobbes has peed in the house 3 times since he has been home. Twice it was in a matter of minutes of each other. I don't know if I should be concerned. (ie trip to the e-vet) or if this is just a result having to be house broken again. He wasn't brought outside when he was at the vets because he was possibly infectious and also because he was to weak to walk. He was totally house broken before this, the only time he peed was when he had a UTI. His liver/kidney values were still very high on discharge, does anyone know if that could be causing the problem. I'm just so paranoid right now. I don't want to be running to the vets for nothing. Also I doubt it's a UTI because he is on a huge dose of antibiotics right now.
  13. Hobbes is home!!! I started a new post http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showto...p;#entry3678997
  14. Hobbes looked great tonight when I went to see him. He ate over a cup of home made soup today and is basically back to his old self personality wise. His kidney and liver enzymes are still quite high, but if tomorrows blood test shows improvement he will be coming home :yay Everyone cross your fingers. Here is the post in C&F of todays pics http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showtopic=215435
  15. Here's a picture of my baby from tonight. He looks so much better then he did.
  16. Because Hobbes let me know in no uncertain terms tonight that it's not his time to go!!!! He is a lot brighter today, and even stood up when we went in to see him. I brought him some home made chicken soup and he actually ate a half cup. It's more food then he has had in total for the last 5 days. We spent most of the afternoon cuddling with him (gloved and gowned of course) and in that time he did a small roo, and even roached for belly pets. He sure is a fighter. He is not completely out of the woods yet though. The blood work came back while we were there. It doesn't show any real improvement in the kidney or liver function. Some levels unfortunately have increased since yesterday. His jaundice is really bad making him looks like a Simpson character. The yellow is even noticeable through his fur. And I just can't believe how much weight he has lost. He looks like a bag of bones, with almost no muscle left. He is going to need extra spoiling when I finally get him home. I can't thank everyone enough who sent kind words and advice to us during this time. It truly helped more than anyone could imagine.
  17. Just got back from visiting with Hobbes :'( Hobbes needs all the prayers you can give him right now. He really isn't doing very well tonight. His Kidneys and liver seem to be shutting down. He has become severely jaundice, and is yellow all over his body. He is so lethargic and his temperature has fallen below normal. The vet talk to me about the possibility he won't becoming home. I'm numb, I can't believe this is happening.
  18. Prayers for Soul, I hope he is feeling better really soon.
  19. Here is a link to a Leptospirosis website in case anyone is interested. Link
  20. The treatment is an IV and antibiotic, which he has been receiving since Monday afternoon. I haven't seen Hobbes yet today but my DH saw him and said he was a bit more alert today, he even took him on a short little walk. The vets were able to get him to eat a few mouthfuls of food which is really promising. I don't know how long it's supposed to take to see results, I keep meaning to ask but forget everytime I'm on the phone with the vet. I got to start writing questions down when I remember them, I'm so scatter brained right now.
  21. We got a tentative diagnosis of Leptospirosis today. His blood test from last night came back and his BUN and creatinine levels were very high. Which indicates a problem in the liver and kidneys. The vet thinks with some of the other blood values and his symptoms it is a likely cause. They have to do a titer test to confirm this, which could take up to a week. Good thing is the treatment for it is what we have been doing the whole time. I hope he will start to show some improvement soon.
