  1. Bruiser, my AB recovered very nicely after having his spleen removed at 12 due to a mass, which unfortunately turned out to be cancerous. His recovery from the splenectomy itself though was without problem. Sending healing thoughts and white light for a full and trouble free recovery for your boy. :hope:candle

  2. We don't muzzle him but the neighbour's daughter, who was walking him, usually does because for whatever reason it makes her feel safer (not anymore).

Not sure what you meant by not anymore, but I certainly hope you will not allow this girl to ever walk him again. Your lucky he's not dead, being muzzled he had no way to even attempt to protect himself.

  3. There is a big difference between a dog going into and staying in a crate with the door left open and with the door shut. I always love the comparison to a den that crate proponents give. I would challenge them too show me a den that traps the animal inside.

Both Batmom and GeorgeoNE gave very good advice, of course it does take more effort than just putting the dog in the crate and closing the door.

  4. Believe me I know about dealing with food allergies. One thing I will caution you about is feeding just one food for an extended amount of time. What I found happened with Nadir is that when I fed something over a prolonged period he would also develop an allergy or intolerance to that item. It is best if you can first determine the meat proteins he is okay with. Once you've established those you can then look at the individual grains or other carbohydrates he does not react to and keeping to limited ingredient kibbles hopefully come up with a few that you can feed on a rotational basis.

I know you had problems with the first food you listed, but did you ever try feeding him just chicken to see if there was a reaction? He may have been reacting to the fish/fish oil in it all along.

  5. .... brushing would not have been to blame and I expect being brushed would have been her last and happy memory.

I know all too well how easy it is to question what you have done and if you had done something different then the outcome would not be as it is.

I hope instead that you will see your actions as your final confirmation of your love for her before her passing; her last happy memory as JohnF pointed out.

  6. I would venture to guess yes if the TBD was causing inflammation, which the Metacam would have helped relieve. Unfortunately Metacam causes other problems as you are finding out. Nadir's stomach problems started after being put on Metacam. As far as him being restless at night I'm guessing that like most illnesses the symptoms worsen at night and thus he is in more pain. Poor guy :(. I hope you can find something to get him through this.

If you haven't already, give him Manuka honey to help soothe his gut. This was something that always helped Nadir when he had a flare up.

I just saw Tracy's post so I guess not on the Metacam helping.

  7. Well, I think you all have sold me on trying the carrots and the beets. Chase doesn't have any problems with stool firmness, but he does get a little bit of a rumbly belly and gas. The gas has no smell to it though. I just want to try the product to see if I notice an overall improvement in his health.
