  1. I'm glad to hear it's not cancer. Hopefully, she can be treated wiht medication. My Nadia has dilated cardiomyopathy and is doing well on meds.
  2. I hope the vet has some good news for you
  3. Thank you... K.C. - remembered always...
  4. C'mon... that's one dog and a mirror
  5. I'd love to know what possessed the person that first tried Preperation-H
  6. I'm so sorry... but she looks like quite the lady in that picture
  7. Here's hoping it's nothing... Since it's only one toe, any sign of a corn?
  8. Is this the site you had in mind? http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/corn_hulling.htm That's the one. Grassmere has wonderful corn information! It's amazing how lame they can make a dog - anyone who saw Turbo at Expo probably thought I was torturing him Poor baby got his corn hulled the next week and is feeling SO much better (of course, the corn only started bothering him the day we headed up to Expo..grrr.) I'd go further and say a one time removal rarely does the trick. If it does, consider yourself lucky. Surprisingly, a foster who had 10 corns removed ( ) has had no signs of regrowth! Grassmere's other health info is handy too. They have a good section on LS.
  9. They're perfect when you can see the last three ribs. It might be kinda hard to tell if you have a brindle, though . Sorry, I might have missed a post that already mentioned this. The AKC standard also calls for a "hint of the last two ribs"... I wonder if a vague insinuation counts?
  10. As with most things in life What about the bare butt cheeks? Nikki doesn't have a problem with that, but the new pup is quite bare back there! Same with that. Honey and Kara have nice furry butts. Nadia's butt has that Telly Savalas look and shows no real signs of regrowth (but I have caught her watching those late night hair product ads lately )
  11. Here's hoping she makes a full recovery...
  12. So, will they scars go away? All we can offer is a semi-definite qualified maybe...

    The Legacy

Obie, the Jedi cat... courage and strength of spirit Squirt the cat... unswerving loyalty (and that cats really do take pee'd off literally ) K.C. the Kitten Chow cat... a warm heart, a gentle spirit... and a fearless hunter. Shortly after I adopted Honey, he went hunting for us, bringing home three rabbits - one for me, one for Honey and one for himself Pinky, my AWOL girl... sometimes the brightest lights shine only in private Willow... the first greyhound I met face to face. She promptly stole my heart and convinced me that I wanted to adopt a hound...
  15. I can really only speak for my girls. Nadia has a prominent scar on her side. She's eight and has been off the track for four years. There hair hasn't (and won't likely) grow back. Greyhounds have such a short coat (and there is no undercoat) that scars that might disappear on other breeds remain visible on our hounds.
  16. I did want to add one other thing. Although I'm fairly new to Greytalk, it seems that there is a genuine spirit of community. Members feel that they can reach out for advice and support.
  17. Actually, from what I've read greyhounds don't have any more health issues than most pure bred dogs. Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) is one major disease, but there is also a high incidence in rottweilers. On the other hand, hip dysplaysia is almost nonexistent in greyhounds (AKC or NGA). I think you'll also notice that many of the postings on this forum are about dogs 11, 12 and sometimes older.
  18. I'm so very sorry to hear about Luna. I wish I had some sage words to ease your pain. When you are ready let me know and I'll give you a link to an essay entitled "The Journey".
  19. That describes Kara to a tee. She's 8, off the track for over three years and about a pound over her race weight.
  20. True. And, like people, the dogs do differ in how prone they are to weight gain.
  21. If she was in the adoption kennel for a while, she could easily have packed on weight there. There can also be a variation in scales at vet offices. At my old vet's, Turbo consistently weighed 80+, but any other place I weighed him (the Banfield scale at Pestmart, his Physical Therapist's Office, the weight scales at Wonderland and Raynham), he comes in around 76 lbs (just where I want him - 5lbs over race weight). According to the records, she was spayed on 4/2/02 and weighed 69 pounds. I got her on 5/16/02. When she was spayed she was still up in Connecticut. But in looking over her records, she's never weighed less than 69 pounds since I've had her. Oh, and she actually gets a bit less to eat than the other two. But she is a big girl... more of her to love
  22. Of my three, Kara is within a pound of her racing weight. Nadia has gained about five pounds (from racing weight of 60 to current weight of 65). Then there's Honey who weighs 75 lbs. Her racing weight is listed at 63 pounds, but according to the records I got when I adopted her, she weighed 69 pounds at her spay. If you have the vet records, see if they recorded her weight whe she was spayed. That should give you a better indication. Four or five pounds over racing weight is what I've been told is typical
  23. Was the clear liquid sort of yellowish? If so, it's probably lymph (but I'm not a vet). I'd be inclined to let my vet have a look.
  24. This is one of the best essays on this subject I've read: The Journey
