  1. I'm quite pleased with Mokka's progress today Her head tilt is definately improved and although she's not rushing around playing (which is nothing new as she's fourteen and a half years old!), she's certainly more alert and she's not fallen over sideways when getting off the sofa or walking across the room. I was eating slice of bread a short while ago and I looked down and found Mokka sitting next to the computer chair looking hopeful so I rushed to get a jar of baby food that I've just purchased in Asda and shoved it in a bowl and she ate it - yayyyyyyy. She then ate some of the soft bread crusts too but there's an issue with her tongue co-ordination so she finds eating some things more difficult than others - but at least she's showing willing which is excellent news. When we had to pop out before, she barked when we were leaving so that was jolly good too! I took some piccies of her earlier and will post them once I've taken them off the camera
  2. Yes, I think 'lappable' food is the way forward for the time being. I am going to stock up on baby food, rice pudding etc and see how she does with that (although she can of course manage sausages....)
  3. MokMok came home from the vets last night and was happy to be home. She's not been very willing to eat for Joanna and she wouldn't wag her tail. Joanna was concerned about the lack of appetite and said that if Mokka doesn't start eating properly again within a few days, she'd be concerned that there was 'something else going on' (ie, in her brain). Anyway. Mokka did eat for her Mummy last night but what she's eating is a bit on the hit and miss side - she had 2 picnic eggs (for those of you who are unfamiliar, they are made of sausage meat and they have chopped egg in the middle), some fresh salmon and a couple of spoons of dog food from a pouch. This morning she had some more salmon and 3 picnic eggs and at 11.30am she had 2 of Marcs pork sausages. I'll be going shopping later and scouring the shelves for foods of any sort which may tempt her. A query for anyone who has experience of doggie strokes - what have you noticed about appetite changes? I've noticed that Mokka seems to have slight difficulty in getting food into her mouth. I have been hand feeding but even then, she sometimes struggles to get the food from the front of her mouth, into a decent chewing position.
  4. We dropped her off at the vets about an hour ago. She's got her food, her medication, a princess fleece, a stuffie (its a bit crispy but it will remind her of home ) and she's got a dog called Rosie and a cat called Raff for company. Plus the vet (Joanna). She was definately a bit brighter this evening - wagging her tail and investigating at the vets. Joanna also thought she looked brighter (so that means its not just her Mummy imagining it)
  5. Morning Mokka was still very whizzy earlier on today and she stumbled a few times (and fell over once). She seems to be a little better as the hours are going on - certainly not normal but maybe a touch better than earlier. Her head is still tilted but maybe a few degrees less and at one point, she wandered into the kitchen when we were making some food. She started the Vivitonin last night so maybe that will start to do its good work shortly.
  6. Best wishes being sent from across the pond
  7. I had to speak to the vet at about 4.45 because the head tilt was markedly worse and Mokka was very quiet indeed. We decided to watch and see but it does sound more like a stroke than anything else. (I know that with human stroke patients, the symptoms sometimes get worse before things level off). I arranged to call again at about 7pm which I've just done. I said that the head tilt is no worse than it was at my last call and that when Mokka has been lifted off the settee, she unsteadily made her way out for a wee and then came in again under her own steam. She's refused her normal food but did jump on the settee when I was in the bathroom and Marcs back was turned () I offered her one of the little foil trays of dog food that I mix into Strikers lunches and she's eaten all that. If it remains where it should, she can have another at 9pm. If I'm worried tonight I'm to call the vet again of course but other than that, I'm to call in the morning to update them. Woe iz mee. I feel wizzy.
  8. My gut feeling is that she's had a small stroke. I think the ear gunk is a red herring and I suspect that my vet feels the same way really. If it was a true vestibular attack, she should have darting eye movements and she doesn't, at all. At the moment she's asleep but earlier when some of the other dogs barked, she woke up, made as if to get up, didn't and then just lay back down again.
  9. We're all back from the vets (so that's good). The problem amy well be with Mokkas ear lugs so she's had them cleaned, some drops put in and a steriod injection. But because the vet isn't fully convinced that it's just ears (due to Mokka's age I suppose) she's also started her on Vivitonin. Mokka has to go back next Friday but also, because we're going to be out for an extended period of time this coming Sunday, we've arranged for Mokka to go for TLC at the vets from Saturday night (because although she seems OK to be left at home alone, I don't want her jumping on and off furniture and possibly missing). Mokka did her trademark wee in the waiting room and then when the vet wanted to show Marc and I something in the hospital area which is downstairs, Mokka stayed with the reception lady....and wee'd behind the reception desk too Thank you for all your good thoughts. Keep them coming though please because I'm not sure that we're quite out of the woods just yet.
  10. It's rare that Mokka has ever needed to see the vet due to illness (I think she's been twice in her 14.5 years so far) but she's not quite right this morning so she has an appointment at 11.10am. She's either (in my none veterinary qualified opinion) had a mild stroke or is having some sort of vesibular attack. She has a slight head tilt and has stumbled a few times this morning. She's walking very carefully and at one point, she turned down an offer of a slice of meat. That's simply unheard of. So, please think 'get better quick' thoughts for Mokka, who is currently resting on the sofa, waiting for two hours to pass so that she can be fixed by the vet. *wibble*

  14. I'm very sorry Night night Frankie
  15. Have a look at this Andy and maybe print it off for your vet http://www.recycledracers.org/FAQ/greyhoun...ood-values.html Going off what your vet said was normal for WBC, your vet is working off 'normal' dog figures, not greyhound figures.
  16. Ours have always been sedated for x rays apart from Radar who was feeling too ill to move a muscle (quite literally).
  17. Darcy had carboplatin, doxorubicin, carboplatin & doxorubicin at three week intervals, with blood tests in between each treatment. She had no side effects at all until the very last dose and that one made her very poorly (in the vets for 5 days) but then she recovered with gusto If I was in the same position again with a dog, I'd do it again.
  18. Thinking of you all and sending very best wishes
