  1. Oh, no. I am so sorry to hear about your precious Tigger. Godspeed pretty boy.
  2. We don't do boots. We also don't use salt- we use sand so that helps and I avoid roads with salt (I don't know if that is an option with you) It takes enough time to coat all 5 of my dogs and ourselves. Our dogs wouldn't move if we put boots on them!
  3. Welcome to GT. I have never trained my dogs to do anything special. However, they did train me pretty well!. All kidding aside.( but really I am not kidding) I'm sure there are some people on here who have very well trained GH that took time to get to that point. But I do have to say that when my dogs don't want to do something- like a walk- it just aint gonna happen. Our dogs understand 2 or 3 things. Walkies, pee, cookie and out and uppy (up the stairs). But we did not put the time to "work" with them, We were afraid they would laugh at us.
  4. You got your dog from GAA? YOu could ask Lisa for a banner so that you can do meet and greets. Call the local pet stores and ask if you could (a 501c3 Greyhound Adoption Group) come and do M&g to educate the public about the plight of the greyhound. I would fax the papers to the store. If it's a petco or petsmart we are already in their system. I could get you the paperwork that you would hand out. It's easy. Aim for 12-3 or 1-4 or whatever works for you. Bring water, a blanket and some treats for your pup. Ask the store if they could provide the table and chair. Bring a donation jar- you can make one and that's really it! A few people, a couple of greys... you are all set!

  6. Ok YUCK. Sorry you had to deal with that.
  7. Congrats on the NO CANCER! Hopefully, Doxy will knock out whatever is keeping her down. Unfortunately, age has nothing to do with it. Diseases and getting sick is just something that happens, young and old.
  8. OMG- how totally devasting. I'm sick over this. Please send our condolences. Something should be done. While nothing can bring back these 2- there should be some kind of penalty so that these dogs can not be let off leash, even accidently without a serious penalty to the owner. And if this has happened before, then it is no longer accidental. If the owner was held accountable - again. If she was sued for A LOT of money, it wouldn't happen. The woman could keep the money or donate it... whatever. But something should be done in honor of these poor dogs. What a nightmare.
  9. We leave it to the pros! Beau has to be done by the vet.
  10. When Beau started this type of thing, he had some serious stuff going on and we know William doesn't because he doesn't have all the other symtoms. Teddy does this once in a while and when he does- I honestly do not feel he is playing games- I feel he is "off". Try sprinkling a little parmasean cheese on his food. Don't let it sit for 10 minutes, but more like a minute or 2. Being that you only have one dog, I see nothing wrong with leaving it out to free feed him.
  11. Just got an email from my vet: "Elsie, the biopsy returned benign! An infundibular cyst. The excision was complete and she should have no problems resulting from this lesion. Good news!" GREYT NEWS!
  12. I started a thread based on this thread. Check it out. http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/246414-what-to-do-on-a-cold-winter-day-to-entertain-your-hounds/
  13. I noticed a few people mentioning they have hounds that are stir crazy and are looking for things to do with their hounds this winter. While I was posting on someone else's thread about going to petsmart/ petco etc. for an outing, it dawned on me that hosting a meet and greet for your group is a wonderful thing to do with your hounds during the winter months. It's a win win situation. You get out, your dog (s) get out, you promote GH adoption, your dogs get exposure and socialization & attention and you get $$ for your group. Your dogs will be competely knocked out when you get home! This is totally a win win situation. Call the local pet store in your area. Ask a friend to go with you and get the info packets from your group. Your group will help you get situated but if you have any questions on what to bring to a M&G- ask on GT. Good luck and stay warm!
  14. I would dress warm warm warm and go on a long long walkie maybe with some other greyhounds that you can arrange a get together with. A long walk will tire you both out! Also, I trop to petsmart for treats and toys or just to browse is always fun.
  15. I don't see what you are referring to either. Hope it's nothing.
  16. Thanks everyone! The support is wonderful and we never feel alone. We had company today so I haven't been online. Elsie has been herself from the minute I picked her up. She was right up my butt all day- whenever I turn around- BUMP right into Elsie. She was playing with toys, ate her dinner like a good girl and is sitting right by my feet as I type staring at me adororingly. She and I have a mutual admiration club!
  17. that's Elsie- takes everything in stride. NOT a drama queen, like another GH in this house with the first initial "B"! Not mentioning any names! She is so good and so easy. A dream.
  18. Here you go. http://www.holisticvetlist.com/
  19. I dropped Elsie off at 9:30 and picked her up at 10:30. Lump had gotten bigger- but it was external. I am having it sent for pathology- just in case but we are pretty certain it's benign. But benign of not, it did not belong there. She had a shot of metacam and antibiotic- 2 disolvable stitches and she is home now. I am so relieved to have this behind us. She just ate her breakfast and is munching on some cookies! I just adore this girl.
  20. 9 hours after only one week is a lot for him, IMHO. You did say your DHwas home due to unemployemnt now, though right? So how much time has he had to be in the crate? Is there someone that can come in to let him out while you are away?
  21. Thanks Lindsey. I think when we post the Kathleen Gillies (sp? "of all breeds" article, this should show up as well. A 2- for!
  22. Merry Christmas to you both.
  23. I am so very sorry. My heart aches for you. I spent part of Christmas day emptying out my desk file cabinet and I came across this. It is from the Memorial at GIG. Your Pets in Heaven by Ken D. Conover To have loved and them said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all. For all of the times that you may have stopped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the loved that I so unconditionally gave to you. For the care that you gave to me unselfishly. For all of these things I am grateful and am thankful. I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the face that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller becasue you were there, not as a master/owner but as my friend. Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflied flit amoung the flowers and the sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures. I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. THere is no sickness, no aching joints and no regeres and no aging. We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever. You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions shuch as you are so rare and unique. Don't hold the love that you have within yourself. Gve it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies, and you are loved and missed as surely as we are.
  24. I agree with the baby gating. How long are you leaving him alone?
