  1. OH NO. I really feel and hear your pain. He'll be just fine and after the surgery, it will take time, but he will be OK. Beau is 6 weeks post op after doing a number on his leg that the vet said in 32 years he had never seen anything like it. This will give you time to bond even more with your pup and he will adjust to the cast. Its amazing how they compensate. Sending prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy, pain free recovery. Hugs and strength sent to you
  2. Chloe is clearly cut and dry hyprothyroid. She has had "head tremors". One time although the episode was no worse than the others, her eyes were fixed and did not dialate even when I held a flashlight to her eyes. Vet said it could be the first stages of epilsey. It may or may not ever get worse. Of course, I'm praying it never does. I hope my answer to your orginal question always remails No.
  3. How does it compare with the missing link and pet tabs? I've been giving that to mine since day one.
  4. You say this has been going on for a long time? I would definitely take her in to the vet to have it checked out.
  5. Have you tried supplements for the hair? Rogaine? Just kidding... We use missing link and they each get a pet tab once a day. I have no idea what their coats would be like without it since I had it in the house before I had the dogs (It was advised by my first group) BUT, all three of my greys have shiny coats. Teddy and Chloe who came off the track with a bald butt, have about 50% of their hair back already. Beau actually has thick furry butt but he had more hair to begin with. Just like for us, vitamins and minerals help, they help the dogs too.
  6. I was told by 2 vets (one of them has greys) and my local GH group that all rawhide, bullystix and greenies are a no no. I posted this on another thread. The vet said when I asked him about it... by telling me this, he limits the amount of surgerys for obstruction he does. But the bottom line is that all these things could cause obstruction and he advises against it. We give ours the rice based bones or raw bones from the butcher, always supervised.
  7. Hope Jax is OK and let us all know. One of the first things I was told prior to adopting was NO: Rawhide of any kind, including any kind of bully stix and also grennies. My vet is against all of them too. He says it limits his surgerys by telling me that, (meaning that there would be no surgery for obstruction if everyone listened) but it's the truth. Just curious, why?
  8. My Chloe is a hypothyroid dog with no physical signs at all. How did we know? Her personality. She is a spook to begin with but she was just plain ole impossible without the meds. My girlfriend has had a grey for a year and just recently noticed a white ring around her eye and also she started losing fur from her butt. I knew that the hair loss was common in hypo dogs so I asked her to have her checked and sure enough she too, is hypo. The levels for greys are different then those of other breeds. When it's low for a grey, it's low.
  9. Oh no, I am so very sorry. This is just so unfair. hugs and strength.
  10. Chloe suffers from "head tremors". It's very scary. Yes, she happens to be hypothyroid too. It usually happens when she is unusally stressed or when her meds are being altered. I was told by my grey savvy vet of 32 years that there is nothing to do but monitor it. If you can keep a log, do so and state what's going on at the time etc. IF IT LASTS OVER 5 MINUTES OR GETS WORSE THAN JUST THE HEAD BOBBING, GET HELP. UNder 5 minutes he said it should just be monitored. It may be a mini seizure that may or may not ever have anything to do with epilepsy. You can do a search on GT about "head tremors". Make sure your vet does a FULL PROFILE PANEL FOR THYROID NOT JUST T4. It's not too late, they keep the blood for days after they draw it. I'm sure your dog is very happy, but that is not the reason he has head tremors.
  11. Yes, I gave rescue remedt tonight so I won't give the Benadyl tonight but I figure the fireworks usally last a few days so just in case, I want to be able to have it ready. This is pitiful and Chloe only peed 2x today. At 6 Am and at 3 PM. No good. I'm going to try and get her out in a few minutes but it's just not stopping.
  12. What is the "Correct" dose of Benadryl for greyhounds weighing: 64lbs, 70 lbs and 80 lbs? Thanks, Robin
  13. So sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts.
  14. Nancy, when I did the search on this I see that a lot of this is cholesterol related. Call vet Monday morning and make sure one of the tests they are runnning is for her chloestrol. It's not too late to have that test run if they have not done so yet.
  15. We noticed Teddy limping one week ago. We made an appointment with the vet, (because if we are not there once a week for one of them, I'm sure they would worry about us!!! ) I then cancelled the appointment because he stopped limping only to have it start again. And stop. We took him in today. What they saw was the beginnings of a possible corn. She did not think that was the problem. She told us to buy some vitamin E and rub the oil from it into the area. Has anyone done this? How long do you do it for? My DH did not ask. More than likely she thought that maybe he overextended a muscle while running/ playing. We told her of the incident where he lunged at the nanny 2 days ago and grazed her face with his tooth. She took blood to see if there was anything systemic because that was so unlike Teddy behavior. (he's a mush) She did not think it was anything serious and told us he looks greyt. (we think so too. all 80 pounds of him) So the good news is it probably is nothing serious. The bad news is I spent $200.00 to hear he has a slight limp!!!! But hey, he got a manicure / pedicure out of the deal! With Beau, I had to spend close to 3K to have his nails cut. Yeesh!
  16. Ask the vet. When Beau had his leg surgery, over the cast was a black bootie with a rubber sole. It went all the way up the leg and tied at the knee. I'm sure you will be able to purchase one of the ones they use for post surgical procedures!
  17. I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SWEET BOY, KIPPER. May the memories of your days together give you comfort in the days ahead.
  18. Missed the post from the beginning. So glad to know she is home and resting comfortably. Healing thoughts.
  19. We don't need it for where we live, however, our newly bought vacation home has ticks in the area so we will use it year round, most likely.
  20. I agree with feed him anything that he seems to enjoy eating. Just keep him nourished and content. I am so sorry.
  21. After Beau's surgery we were given Deramax and I really think it helped him a lot. When I ran out, he had a bad day and I gave him the Rimadyl we had in the house and I definitely saw that he was not as comfortable as he was with the Deramax.
  22. Thanks Foxysmom. Yes, it's very scary. It does seem to have gotten better as the day went on, he even did 3 rounds of very intense zoomies. I DID NOT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN, try stopping a greyhound. As he zoomed by me as if to say... "mommy. what's your problem" leaving dust in my face... It probably was a pull or he slept on it wrong, but with all the Ca going around, it just plain scary. He's only 3. I wil lnot cancel the appointment for tomorrow until I see there is no limping till tomorrow. I will not allow him in the backyard without a lease, as I have no control.
