  1. This post along with just finding out about a special dog I know just recently diagnosed with CA, possessed me to donate to Hope for Hounds. Please donate. www.hopeforhounds.com We woke up today to find Teddy limping horribly. I sit here and I am in complete and utter discust, fear and anger. It could be nothing, and that's what I have to tell myself, but in the not so back of my head, is the fear of all fears. I am waiting until tomorrow to bring him in. Hopefully, he either pulled something or slept wrong.
  2. I have never heard of that. My adoption agency does the chipping right in front of you and I don't remember my dogs even flinching. To risk anethesia for a pinch, I don't think so. I'd have your dog chipped elsewhere. IMHO.
  3. Hey Patti. As you know Beau is leash only too becasue of his injury. I sympathize but we normally walk them 3-4x a day regardless of what's doing outside. Mine prefer to pee/popp on leash on walk. Will he pee/poop on walks??? If so, there's your answer, if not, I agree with the flexi leash JUST in the yard for the pee/poops. I have a better idea than the flexi leash. Go to a boat supply store and buy a tow line for a raft. There you can have the strength of the line with a handle that you can hold that will not slip or burn your hand. It's mimimal $$ and it should work. Good luck.
  4. I have asked my vet about it and he said (whether it's true or not, this is what he said) it really isn't more common in greys than any other breed. On greytalk you have 99.9 people with greys so you are going to hear about it because as black and brindle said this is where people are going to come for advice and support. Bottom line is it sucks the big one.
  5. Iris, I just read this and I have no words. I can't imagine the pain you are feeling. All my love, prayers and strenghth sent your way. I am here.
  6. Today is 3 weeks post op. Beau had his cast taken off and all bandages. For the new 2 weeks, we have to be extra, extra careful as he has no support and needs to build up the leg. We have to slow the walk down and shorten our walks until he builds up the leg. We had increased our walks with the cast to our 3-4 times a day 3/4 mile walks. No jumping and no getting crazy. I wish someone could convey the no crazys to him! The surgeon said he expects a full recovery and likes very much how he's healing. We will keep the nanny on to monitor his movements while we are at work for the next 2-3 weeks and then hopefully back to "normal". An end is in sight. YAY.
  7. No words of wisdom here, just love, hugs and prayers for your baby.
  8. Sending prayers, love and hugs your way. This is an unbelievable story. PLEASE keep us all updated.
  9. Have you had her FULL panel Thyroid checked yet? If not, please do. It's easy enough to find out if she is hypothyroid or not. She has the same symtoms as Chloe and as soon as the meds hit her system (1 pill 1.5 time a day) she was a different dog. If her thryoid is fine, I'd opt for another dog (I'd opt for that anyway) since it really does not make anything more difficult. (the most difficult is going from 0-1, not 1-2!!!) Best of luck.
  10. So glad he is home. He will come around, they are so resilient. Give him time, he doesn't get it. He will start to compensate with his other leg. Which leg did he break and have you figured out how yet?
  11. That's GREYT Monty!!! We can't wait to have you over to the PA house to play when Beau's leg is better. Hugs!!!
  12. Just saw 1st thread about poor Saulie. Thank G*D, it's not CA but OMG the poor baby. Prayers for quick recovery. Hugs to you all.
  13. OMG-- I just read this. I've been so busy with Beau's leg and set backs that I hadn't been on Health & MEdical. I am soooooooooooo sorry to hear about poor Saulie. I really really feel your pain. Hope his recovery is quick and painfree for him. We too are on only leash walks, which we did anyway, it's just we can't put him out back for a "quickie" anymore. Saul will bounce back quicker than you think. Alow him to pace himself. With Beau, after 10 days he was back to 3/4 mile 3-4 times a day with cast and all. Prayers for a fast recovery. Yeesh, it's always something.
  14. Cast is still on, rebandaged but splint is now off. He is also back on antibiotics.
  15. Took him in this morning and the splint that they put on Saturday, was rubbing and caused an infection. They removed the splint, put him on antibiotic and he is walking better. After all this they had the nerve to charge us $35.00 for a rewrap even though it was becasue of their error. But it gets better. Becasue we brought him in 1st thing in the morning instead of waiting and making him suffer, they added on an addtional $30.00. The 3K for the surgery just wasn't enought I presume. YEESH. We are burning becasue of this. I will take it up with one of the docs on Thursday when we are there for his 3 week post op.
  16. I gave him a deramax this morning but that is really not for this type of pain. We just did a short walk, he was tripoding VERY FAST! He's not whimpering, complaining or whining. He really lets us know when things are upsetting to him. When I asked "who wants a walk?" He got up and his tail was wagging which is a good sign. We are bringing him in to seen seen by vet, just in case before we go to work. What's the difference if I am late again!!??? It's for Beau. Will update tomorrow. Thanks and goodnight!
  17. OK 1) Batmom-- it is not too tight 2) he is NOT gnawing on HIS hoof, he is gnawing on a cow hoof as oxgirl said. It's definitely sore. When he applies the pressure, it hurts. That makes sence. I just don;t know what he did or what exactly he cut. The fact that he limping to the point of only using 3 legs after all we've gone through... seems like a major set back. We were on our way and now here we are... again. Ah, that makes more sense. If it were me, I'd still want to get that off and have a look. If he cut his foot or lower leg, you can get some swelling there, not a good thing if it gets constricted. But he was seen by the vet yesteday and this is new tape/bandage. He's limping becasue it hurts to put pressure on it. I will bring him in 1st thing in the morning to make sure it is not infected and healing the way it should. I also want to know what he cut.
  18. No, His whole foot is wrapped in the ace. The cast goes from the ankle up. WE JUST FOUND OUT--- It's not an ace bandage, it's a tape. We will not be able to put it back on if we take it off. I don't know what to do. We just applied a bit of pressure to the pad site over the tape and he let out a little yelp and then went right back to gnawing his hoof.
  19. The cast has been on for 2.5 weeks and the ace is new, we will readjust the ace.
  20. It's funny (not ha ha funny) that I just posted a picture on Friday saying "doesn't Beau look GREYT 2 weeks post op . We were on a long walk and someone snapped the picture. Here's where we are at now: On Saturday morning after breakfast, I took the pack outside in the back to enjoy some summer breezes. I noticed that there was blood seeping through the ace bandage, which covers the cast. It looked like it was coming from the pad area. PArt of the ace bandage had been worn away from walking on the cement. We took him into the vet, they brought him in the back for 1/2 hour and brought him back out with a new ace bandage wrapped around the cast and told us it was cut (My DH didn't ask WHAT was cut, don't get me started about that one) and to start wearing the bootie for walks. From the time he was brought home from the vet, he has been limping worse than he was after his major surgery. He is actually tripoding, rather than walking. We plan on bringng him in tomorrow morning. My DH thinks we should open up the bottom of the bandage to expose it incase it is wrapped too tight or if it is infected. I say leave it alone till tomorrow. Beau is a bit down, not happy, not sad. He's sick of all of this too. What does everything think???
  21. She was with me the whole time I was there. It was Chloe's 3rd birthday and I located her littermate. We had a party. See post under Everything else Greyhound! Chloe was wearing the pink visor. Did not mean to hijack thread. Let me know about Ms. Rita's foot.
  22. Don't know about the foot but LOVED the picture. I take it you didn't go to the picnic today? We missed you! I went for 2 hours. 3 hours each way by car!
  23. Simple is a good thing! Prayers and good thoughts for Alan and you too Sue!
  24. I have no words, just prayers for all of you.
  25. For Beau, at least, I think he has better results from the Deramaxx than the Rimadyl. We have nver tried the Metacam or Previcox. As long as he is comfortable and functioning and short term use, I don't have a problem with one over another. Thanks for the education. I am glad his spirit is back and the meds are working! Monty, Sam, and I will be there Sunday! I will look for you! I will ask Lisa to introduce us. Chloe and Teddy will be there with me. Chloe will have on her little pink visor! Much cuteness!
