  1. How much pred is he on? For how long? Beau went from 40 to 50mg with imuran and now he is on 30mg. I would love to get him off of it soon. How much pred is he on? For how long? Beau went from 40 to 50mg with imuran and now he is on 30mg. I would love to get him off of it soon.
  2. Congrats and welcome. he is a beautiful red brindle boy, like my Teddy! He will be taking treats one day soon. I remember when I had to place a cookie down and Beau would look at it and walk away. That will change as will everything else will. One day at a time, be patieint and keep a sence of humor! Looking for updates!
  3. I have been watching this thead and have had my prayers going for Fenway. Whaty type of blood tests did the vet do to make him come up with possibly addisons? Beau had mnay of the symtpom you noted several months ago. Severe "D" throwing up, some blood in stool (actually that was once and once was enough!!), not eating. We literally had every test we could, plus some mor for good measure and we even repeated tests. We are not able to come to a final diagnosis until the open exploratory surgery which revealed the severe IBD. I am not suggesting Fenway has IBD, but I am wondering why the addisons diagnosis? Does your vet treat many greyhounds?
  4. That's the same vet Beau sees. They were the ones who said to me, if he weren't a GH they'd call it HD. I don't know what they said about that dog, but I do recall seeing that thread as well.
  5. I am very interested to har what Dr. Couto says. Beau has "something" going on in his hips as well. Back in July, my very GH savvy vet said if she did not know better, she would call it a hip dysplasia as well. We did acupunture and it helped. Please update. i am very curious about this. I would also like to see lincoln's blood line. here is Beau's. Any correlation? http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=BRUq-Z&a...mp;x=19&y=8
  6. Check for gate safety. People have company and people don't always close gates behind them.
  7. The harness is an excellent idea. thank you for taking such good care of her for so long. 8 is so young. I adopted my first broodie at 8.5 and I am adopting my 2nd broodie in 3 weeks. She will be 10 in May. 8 is a spring chicken!!! I do hope you get to the bottom of this for her sake and so the 2 of you can start enjoying each other again.
  8. Oh GOD. I am so sorry. so so sorry. I know how shellshocked you must feel and how empty. Run Free Sweet Chester.
  9. Poor baby girl. I think she needs a full set of x-rays and at the very least, a full check up. How old is she and is there any reason she is not being adopted? I think it's greyt you've opened your heart and home to her.
  10. Polli had straight carboplatin 5 x 3 weeks apart starting the day after her amp. She was a bit tired and not very hungry the first 5 days after chemo but was then greyt in between. Her last treatment was Jan 5. Her last day with me was March 8. All in all, not too good.
  11. Here I be. I was just reading another email from the specialist. I am going to have my vet send all the labs to the specialist. I somehow, someway feel like I am cheating on my vet. I am not sure I am feeling this way because I make myself feel this way or this is the way they make me feel. Either way, I shouldn't feel this way. Beau has been (knock wood, poo poo, salt over shoulder...etc) doing ..... !!!!! Eating well. He is back up his orignal weight but because the pred wastes the muscle, he actually looks bigger. We have now seriously cut back his food. 1 cup= 264 calories. He gets 1 cup @ 7:30 AM. 1 cup @ 12:30 PM by DS. 1.5 cups @ 5:30 and 1.5 @ 10:30. we mix in a very little bit of either tilapia or z/d wet. A VERY LITTLE. We are no longer feeding him at 3AM but we still let him out at that time. Getting up for 5 minutes at that hour vs 20-30 minutes is a big difference! He is on 30mg of pred and imuran and every once in a while I will get a glimpse of Beau. My Beau. MY silly boy who jumps up on me,wraps his paws around my neck and plants a big fat wet kiss on my face. My baby boy who sits and gazes at me for hours. Taking in every facet of me so that when I go to work, all he has to do is close is eyes and his mommy is right there! Lowering the pred give ms back Beau once in a while. We do not plan on coming off of it anytime soon. We DO plan on going to GIG. We are always registered and never go due to "issues". There will be NO Issues this year and we WILL ALL be going. Thank you so much for thinking about us. It's been.... ya know?
  12. I am so sorry, This is so much at once. How are your boys doing?
  13. contact Joan at Pocono greyhound group, Maybe he might be able to hook you up.
  14. Teddy had one on the roof of his mouth and the only reason I knew was when he roaches, I saw it. I had it removed at his first dental 2 years ago. It was a benign tumor.
  15. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers.
  16. Prayers for a quick and painless recovery.
  17. Which group did the dog originally come from???
  18. As safe as any other NSAIDs. I prefer deramaxx myself, but they are both good for inflammatiion.
  19. Oh Emily~ I am so so sorry. I know how much you love that boy.
  20. How frighening. I am sending loads of prayers.
  21. From OSU website: Pain control is essential in dogs where surgery is not an option; we have used either NSAIDs (carprofen, deracoxib, meloxicam) at recommended doses, or bisphosphonates such as alendronate (Fosamax®), at a dose of 10 mg/dog once a day or pamidronate (Aredia®), at a dose of 1 mg/kg, IV as a 30-minute CRI, every 3 to 6 weeks. Drugs such as tramadol (Ultram) at dosages of 1-2 mg/kg, PO, q8-12h may also be beneficial.
  22. You did not fail her. She IS with you. She is living in your heart. You couldn't be more closer. Talk to her, she is living inside your heart.
  23. We tried all natrual remedies first, with no luck and wound up with 10mg of valium. It works wonders and takes them out of their misery. 10 mg and they are good. You can give in extreme emergencys up to 20mg in 24 hours but always speak to your vet first.
