  1. It has been warm, but he didn't drink like this last summer and we have air-conditioning now (new this year), so the house temp is regulated, and he gets his main walk early in the day when it's cooler. His surgery was July 2 and it's been a few weeks since he was on any meds.
  2. That's what my husband is thinking based on Ewan's "new normal" and the search results he's had. We will find out, I hope.
  3. For the last 10 days, our boy Ewan has been excessively thirsty, mostly in the evening. He'll drain his water bowl a few times from late afternoon into the nighttime, and then once or twice per day — outside his regular walks and yard visits — he'll need to go out for a very long/high-volume urination. That first day we noticed the extreme thirst, he had one accident in the house (his first since his first few weeks living with us well over a year ago), before which he asked to go out and then started urinating on a hall rug before I could get him outside (it went on seemingly for minutes). No other accidents, but we've been routinely putting him out two additional times each day since that accident and also expecting him to get back to normal. We've done some searching for possible causes (I see quite a few options: kidney, lever problems; Cushings, diabetes; UTI; etc.), and I'll be calling the vet tomorrow, but I'm wondering what others may have experienced. Does it seem typical for any particular issue that the thirst only occurs at a certain time of day? Ewan has a good appetite and seems healthy and alert when he's up, but he is definitely sleeping more during the day. He sleeps more deeply and is wanting to be off by himself, which is concerning. Just before this became an issue, Ewan spent the month of July recovering from surgery after injuring his feet ramming into (and almost through) our fence in pursuit of a bunny he absolutely could have caught. He had some pads re-attached and was on antibiotics for a couple of courses. But he healed well! When the thirst issue first came up, I wondered if it was connected to all that, but now I don't know. Any experiences or insights would be appreciated!
  4. I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved Hattie.
  5. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Rest well, sweet, handsome Harry.
  6. We did a similar thing with our Asta during her last year or more when her medications list was LONG. The raw goat's milk helped her eat more, and I felt that it improved her digestion/output.
  7. Welcome to you and your gorgeous Dante!
  8. Welcome to you and pretty Cleo! I'm in the Seattle area and just brought home a new grey a couple of weeks ago!
  9. I am so sorry for your loss of this special girl.

I am so very sorry. Rest in peace, angel Donovan.
  11. It is my pleasure to introduce you to our new sweetheart, Ewan (racing name: Atascocita Ewan)! My husband and I brought him home on Friday, May 16, and he is SUCH a good boy. He's four years old and very curious about every single thing! Ewan is friendly, quiet, fairly confident, and a quick study. During our kennel visit, we met 9 dogs. Ewan was the first, and I don't mind saying that he was my number-one choice all the way through. We loved others, too, and brought 3 back out to seriously consider. Of course, there wasn't a bad one in the whole bunch. But there was something about the way Ewan immediately walked over and stood right on top of me that I could not bear to leave behind. He did the same when my husband took the leash, and during our second visit with him, he also repeatedly led me right to the front lobby door, which — according to the kennel folks — the dogs only use once they've been adopted. What else was there to do, but take him to the car? And here's the part where I post way too many photos. Thanks for indulging me! Here's Ewan's glamour shot for the kennel's website. The ride home! First time on any of his beds! It took several hours for him to choose a bed over the carpeting (and he wasn't into our encouragement), but once he tried it, he never looked back! Two days home, and Ewan was already willing to just wait by the walk door until someone was willing to take him through it. Enjoying his backyard. What I see now whenever I try to move around. His first sustained roach exactly one week after coming home.
  12. So true that it's different for everyone. I found the differences my husband and I had sort of fascinating. We each had separate things we either couldn't bear to do or had to take care of right away.
  13. I think I probably did post that here! It's from a birthday walk from a couple of years ago.
  14. Thank you for adding her to those lists, macoduck. I will definitely take a look and give a good thought to all. I already know that in a striking coincidence, Asta's littermate Dixie passed under similar circumstances just a few days before Asta -- so we know they have each other to play with. And thanks to all for your kind condolences. I chose the screen name only because it was true!
  15. We lost our lovebug Asta last fall after a severe attack of laryngeal paralysis. It's been a while, I realize, but at the time I just couldn't bring myself to write about it -- plus, I haven't been terribly active on GT for quite some time, so I just saved it for later. Fast forward to this weekend, when I created the attached collage featuring scenes from her 10 years with us, primarily because we had a home visit from our local greyhound adoption group Saturday night. I so very much wanted them to "meet" Asta, to get a glimpse at how precious she was to us, and is still. Then as I logged on to GT just a bit ago, thinking I might post something about going through the adoption process for the second time, I knew I had to start by giving Asta her very own remembrance post. Of course this girl has everything to do with our inability to conceive of NOT bringing home another greyhound.
  16. Just reading this and hoping everything is going well with your pup easing into being home alone.
