  1. Thank you. He was a very dark brindle in person, and so stripey, like a tiger-zebra! My fave part of his brindle pattern was on the top of his head, which looked like the swirl of a Brach's hard candy.
  2. Thanks. It wasn't enough time with him, but we do know it was his time.
  3. Thank you. It's still sometimes hard to believe even 4 months later.
  4. Thank you. We do, and will. His antics still make us laugh and melt.
  5. It's never enough time, for sure. Glad your gorgeous girl found you. So sorry for your loss.
  6. Meant to add a remembrance note here around the time we lost our sweet Ewan, but you all know how these things can go. Here's what I wrote on my social media post: Run free and rest well, darling boy. May you chase and chatter and chow down forever. We love you so. ~Atascocita Ewan, 3/26/2010–8/23/2020 And here's a Dropbox link to a collage of a few favorite pics out of a gazillion. (Hoping it's viewable.) We still miss him bunches. https://www.dropbox.com/s/a2j87i4tzkp7mbk/Ewan collage.jpg?dl=0
  7. Chiming in with deepest condolences. I'm so sorry for your loss.
  8. Just chiming in to say that we initially worried when Ewan started sometimes skipping the happy greeting (our first grey did so without fail even when older and in ill health). But he took a long time to fully settle in and realize he was definitely home. When he doesn't greet us, it's just because he's super comfy and knows we're going to go to him, at which time he's ready to roach and get a cuddle.
  9. I'm so sorry for the loss of sweet Samlur.
  10. Rest well, beautiful Lola. Hugs to the whole family.
  11. Forgot to come back and update. The vet felt strongly that it's not ringworm (and got a second opinion w/in the practice), so we didn't do a culture. The thinking is that it is a hot spot, and we're treating it as an infection w/antibiotics by mouth and a version of the Vetericyn spray mentioned above. Now the spot is fully filled in within the former red ring and looks like a red, raised patch. We have a cone, but Ewan has been good about leaving it alone when told to. The treatments clearly make it less itchy or painful for him. He'll get rechecked the day after Christmas, and we hope there's more improvement by then. It has shrunk a little, which seems positive!
  12. Oh my, thank you for the reply — that option didn't even occur to me. Now a ringworm search brings up similar images. Will call the vet now to get it checked out.
  13. Ewan has been nursing (read: licking, sometimes biting) a hot spot in his groin area the last few days, and we've watched/treated it — it's significantly better today, but now there's a distinct red ring around the area. That's new. We can see that some new hair growth is trying to sprout there, and it's not unusual for this to happen as winter comes. He came to us with a bald belly, and he always licks at any new growth. But this is the first time a hot spot developed. My question: If your pup has developed any hot spots, have you seen a ring show up around it? There's no bull's eye in the middle, and we checked for ticks (which shouldn't be a problem since he gets monthly flea & tick treatment). Supposing he could have had a tick earlier and it's just not there now, or maybe another bite. Because the spot looks so much better, it feels like watching it another couple of days is OK, but I wanted input. Here's a link to a pic of the area. https://www.dropbox.com/s/z0hkqz6jceqf5sr/hotspot.jpg?dl=0
  14. I see that Photobucket doesn't work here now (at least not without an upgrade). Here's a Dropbox link to a pic of Ewan on his Slumber Ball. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6tye27bbme7aoc9/sb2.jpg?dl=0

  16. Thanks so much for all the great food for thought. Just as I was about to haul him into the vet's office while having the issues, he improved so much w/o the bed that I was persuaded that it WAS the bed. But checking in with our vet is a good idea.
  17. After about 6 weeks of LOVING his Slumber Ball more than anything but food, Ewan started limping when he got out of it. We thought his foot or leg was going to sleep. It didn't happen every time. Then the issue got worse in a way that made us think it had nothing to do with the bed, but that he was hurt. We took the bed away for a couple of days, things got better. Put it back, things got worse. Took it up and didn't put it back, and he fully recovered after several days and has been just fine in the month since. Has anyone else had issues with the bed just not being right for your pup — and/or with it actually causing joint or nerve issues? We keep wanting to let him try it again since he had no noticeable problems other than severe addiction for the first 6 weeks. But I also hate to think that something started right away and it just took a while to build up and present to us in a noticeable way. I'm also wondering if we simply got the wrong size. We went with the largest, but maybe it's too big and creates more of a big divot, making it tougher for him to move around. I would hesitate to go to the trouble of trying the same style in a different size, though, given the hassle and expense if it's not right, even if we could return it right away. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
