Farewell, Aries...

It just happened so suddenly. Aries' been limping for awhile, and after a visit to our regular vet that was inconclusive, we made an appointment to see a specialist on Thursday. Monday evening he wasn't interested in his dinner, and we just thought he was very uncomfortable. Tuesday morning he couldn't get out of bed. He just laid there and panted. We brought him breakfast, he wasn't interested. Then we tried a chew bone and even peanut butter...no reaction. That's when we realized something was really really wrong.

We called the specialist and luckily there was a cancellation at 1pm, so we brought Aries in. The vets confirmed that something was seriously wrong and probably had nothing to do with his hips. They carried him in to do tests to find out more. An hour later, they told us that Aries was bleeding into his abdomen, and they couldn't be sure why unless they did an exploratory surgery.

Before surgery, we went to see him...he had enough strength to wag his tail and looked up at us. I'll never forget the way he looked laying on that bright red sleeping bag.

Aries went into surgery at 4:30pm and we went home to wait. The vet called at 6:15pm while he's still in surgery. They found a tumor (of the blood vessels) the size of a small grapefruit near Aries' bladder and three small ones on his abdominal wall. Because of the locations of these tumors, they couldn't just remove them...and the best thing to do was to just let him go while he's not feeling any pain and discomfort. :cry1

After hanging up, DBF and I just held on to each other and cried. Aries was such a big part of my life and had such a loud and demanding presence, that his absence was just overwhelming. It still hurts.

On the other hand, I can just picture him happily barking his head off, bullying other dogs and chasing tennis balls on the other side of the bridge...

We miss you so much, Aries...
