What Is The Cost Of Medical Treatments

Recommended Posts

Multiple vets here in Dallas charge right around $50 for an office call.

Dr, Josh does house calls for $60 (as well as $50 neuters and $100 spays). Some of those the Ohio State vet school grads rock - I know one other that lives in Yuma, AZ that is pretty cool. Buck and Poodle both had dentals here in Dallas (Poodle's about 3 years ago) and they were around $250 plus $20 - $25 per extraction.

ER and specialist here are both about $120 to walk in the door. Luckily there is a clinic near me with a $60 office call that has all day Saturday and Sunday hours that is invaluable. Hillside vet clinic about 15 minutes away has 24/7 hours but is not an e-vet. and doesn't charge near those prices.

I'll refrain from the details but, I can tell you I have spent close to $40,000 on my last 3 bridgebabies. Keep in mind I live in NJ where everything is expensive (for example walk in fee at the e-vet here is $190) and I treat my hounds aggressively-mri's, SRT radiation (cyberknife)..... Veterinary medicine has made incredible advancements but, it comes at a price. I didn't have pet insurance for those guys--you bet I do now.

Over the last 4 years of her life this is roughly what I spent on Aquitaine. I lived in New York City where everything was even more expensive than NJ. The walk-in at the e-vet was $1,500 at the e-vet only or $185 plus tests that added up to $1,500 at Animal Medical Center. Dentals were $4,000 and her spleen removal surgery and stay were close to $15,000. Extremley thankful for insurance and a parent who covered the surgery and let me reimburse him.

I have had one home care medical visit in Los Angeles just to get Tallulah started with a wellness visit. That is the vet's base visit charge which is comparable to NYC. It covered the vet and a tech so it was a very fair charge.

I can tell you, we just paid an $1,800 bill for our boy, which included ultrasounds of his belly & heart, some blood work and surgery to remove his spleen and a large mass (5 lbs), along with the biopsy fees to get a diagnosis and an overnight stay at the vet. We also had his teeth cleaned while he was under.

Henry... Where do I even start?

Amputation Surgery = $3,500 (that wasn't the expensive part).

Chest x-rays, chemo, bloodwork, prophylactic meds, treatment for infections, and e-vet visits over the next six months = $11,000+

Trumie has had a few e-vet trips as well for accident/flukey things. He ate Henry's pills once and had to be treated for toxin ingestion and Seratonin syndrome. That was about $1,000. He also had a partial tail amp and stitches/staples for various things.

Needless to say, I am indebted to Healthy Paws. They've paid out claims ten times over what I've paid in premiums.

I ended up with Dr. Steven Smith. He was going to charge me the "out of area" rate while I am at my stepfather's house since I am, indeed, out of his preferred area but he didn't!. He is very open, easy to deal with and good with greyhounds. Tallulah's first visit was in great, we stood in the backyard and he checked her all over, went over her records and gave me the scrip for the flea/tick/worm meds. Since it is him and his tech, he actually costs less than my NYC homecare vet and HE gave me every possible cost break he could!

I now have every homecare vet, er service, ambulance service, etc. in my phone in case anything every happens. Uber won't take dogs unless they are service dogs and even then it is up to individual drivers. I want to be prepared!!!!

I should add he was very complimentary about the hospitals fix of her leg break, he said that he could neither see, nor feel where she had broken the leg.
