Need Some Food Ideas

Recommended Posts

Fletcher is not eating well, and I am looking for some ideas to get some calories in him. Something that would make a normal dog a little constipated would be good, as one of the few things he will eat is kibble, but that gives him runny poop, so...

I am going to the store later for some Ensure, cottage cheese, maybe bread?

Passion isn't eating much- totally refusing kibble.

I picked up beef and chicken bites at the pet store. There's also a meat roll at Petco that I bought but she refused that after a few days.

Her poops are almost too firm on the meat bites.

I have been using Fresh Pet Select as an add on to their kibble and a benefit has been that my guys gained weight. It is a refrigerated fresh food, sold in a roll, that you slice off pieces. I purchase the chicken and rice. Around here you can buy it at BJ's and Walmart.

OK, I think I have seen Fresh Pet at PetSmart, I will look when I go for kitty litter.

Kari, what brand are the meat bites? Are they the frozen raw things? I know one of the cats can't eat those as they give him constipation.

He *did* eat sweet potato, I will try that too.

Ground beef (I won't feed it raw from the grocery store so I cook it first), scrambled eggs, plain Cheerios, spaghettios, sardines, tuna, jack mackerel, Tripett (canned green tripe; Solid Gold also has some -- Green Cow is theirs, I think), anything with a drizzle of honey or molasses or vanilla ice cream on top .......

Star aka Starz Ovation (Ronco x Oneco Maggie*, litter #48538), Coco aka Low Key (Kiowa Mon Manny x Party Hardy, litter # 59881), and mom in Illinois

I got the Instinct bites and beef medallions which were Stella and Chewy.

I even tried Sojo's. She ate it once. That's $50 down the drain.

Have you tried the Chicken or Turkey "chubs" 5lb frozen - whole chicken, bones, organs ground up and has veggies added ..

I get this at See Spot Shop or i've seen it a couple other places.

might be just different enough to encourage eating.

I do feed raw ground hamburger - from costco - and usually the organic. you could give the ground buffalo a try.

you could sprinkle the "magic powder" crumbled BurpDogs! :)

Thanks for the ideas everyone! A few clarifications, his "regular" diet is duck or turkey necks and ground beef ( all raw) He used to eat a lot of chicken, but about a year ago became sensitive to that. He can't eat any of the commercial raw, like Instinct or Stella & Chewy, because even the small amount of veggies set off his IBD. Sadly, even Burpdogs give him problems!

He has eaten sardines and other canned fish in the past, will try those. Also eggs are a good idea. I have some green tripe defrosting. Cheerios? Worth a try!

Fresh Pet is also sold at one of our regular supermarkets (H-E-B) in Austin, so it may also be carried by others in different cities. :)

We don't have HEBs here, or BJs. If I don't see it at PetSmart, I'll try some of the local groceries.
