Guest larock
So we came home on Friday to find Roodie favouring his back leg. It didn't seem swollen but he was not putting any weight on it. Called the after hours vet who said if its a break there's not much that can be done other than rest and ice packs, and to bring him in the following AM. His overall demeanor seems fine, he's eating, wants the cookies and there is no whimpering at all. He's just hobbling around on 3 legs. The vet confirmed the bone in his foot (the part leading to the toe), not the actual toe itself is broken. They wrapped it with vetwrap to keep it in place and said it would be a few weeks before we saw any improvement. We didn't do an exray as it was pretty obvious, still there is always that little nagging in the back of my mind. It terms of his recovery, does anyone know what we should expect? tbhounds
Odd they didn't do radiographs. I would want them done just for piece of mind. Also, if he broke the metatarsal bone it could be displaced. It's always been my experience that those need to be at least splinted not just wrapped. MaryJane
I also find it odd that they didn't do an x-ray. When my Larry sprained one of his toes on his front foot we got an x-ray for confirmation. For a sprain, not much you can do except cut out the exercise. The healing took a few months. I'm not an expert but, if it is broken I would expect some type of splint to hold it in place so it will heal ... otherwise, how is it going to heal if it keeps on getting flexed with every movement ???? Guest larock
good questions, that I've asked myseld a few times. I'm not sure if it's a metatarsel or P1 bone but it's definatly on a weight bearing toe. I'll ask.

You will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same.
