win4profit
I thought we were finally in the clear with his toe. He had his stitches removed last friday and the toe looked good. He did well all week, we tried to keep him from running but the vet said it was ok. Yesterday after work, Slick and Gypsy were taking care of business in the back yard and the thunder was rolling. They are both thunder phobic and Gypsy started running around barking at the thunder, Slick took off after her. He comes up on the patio and blood is flowing from his toe, after a good look I can see that it is gaping open. It is now 5:30, I call the vet office and get the answering machine. I call her emergency number and leave a message. I get him bandaged up and bring him inside. In no time, he has bled through the bandaging. We put an IV bag over the bandaging and kept him lying down. At 6:30 my vet calls and says she will wait at the clinic for us (it's a half hour drive). The concern was that she was not going to have enough good skin to put stitches in but after she looked at it, she was confident that she could close the wound. She did the surgery last night and called us to say he was awake and alert at 9:30. She said he took a lot longer to come out of the anesthesia but his vitals were good. She told us that if the stitches do not hold or he rips them out, the next step is to amputate the toe. She kept him over night and called this morning to say that he managed to get his ecollar off and ripped 2 stitches out. We are now just waiting to get the call that we can pick him up. We are expecting more storms this evening so I want to get him home before they hit.

Guest madredhare
My foster dog Hannah had a weight bearing toe amputated and did very well. She doesn't even act like she misses the toe. Those darn toes.

win4profit
We got him home last night around 6:00. We have strict instructions to keep him quiet. Last night was not a problem, he was exhausted. His toe looks pretty good considering, the vet used glue to to the area where Slick so kindly removed the stitches. This is after the first round of stitches. He is not happy Looking very happy after the 2nd round of stitches

jaym1
one of my greys just tore the skin between two of his toes wide open. it took six stitches to close, and now he's in a splint. i'm hoping it doesn't get to where you are now. the only problem is that i dont have a yard, so i have to walk about a good block or so to where he can go to the bathroom. i hope thats not too much movement.
