Pimple?

Grace gets occasional comedones -- the vet said some dogs just get them. They can be extracted, but Grace doesn't like me to fool with them so I let them go and they usually just dry up. Pretty ugly when you squeeze them!

Gary's looks like it might be red - Grace's do not, so it may be something different.

Rainy had one on her side last summer. Bf said it was probably from an ingrown hair? It healed and went away with zero issues. I would just keep an eye on it to make sure it really is a pimple. It's hard to tell from a pic. Does it bother him when you mess with it? Warm compresses should help it pop and heal quicker.

You really can't see Grace's unless you part her fur and they just look like a bump. I can feel them when I pet her. They end up being about 4-5 mm. If you squeeze them (yuk) there will be a waxy head followed by white pus. :puke

I'd just keep an eye on it, vet if it starts getting larger / angry / odd looking. They do get ingrown hairs and little cysts and such.

it looks like a pimple to me too. Ben had one once. I popped it, white pus came out and it healed on it's own. This conversation is almost as good as the poop ones :lol Warm compress may help too

Are you sure it's not an embedded tick???

Beth recurrently gets sebaceous cysts. Some open on their own and crust a little (or are small and can be squeezed) -- these ones eventually go away on their own. Some are a bit larger and stay closed -- these have been removed surgically or (more recently) the vet was able to cut open and evacuate one and close it up with a staple or two under a local. One on her back got bigger while I was waiting to remove it surgically and it ruptured internally-- big mess. Now I am very proactive about having the vet remove them if they're the non-draining kind.

EZ has had them from the day we got him. I think they are little cysts. If I catch them early enough, or they have a bit of a crusty top that I can scratch off, I can usually pop them. Sometimes they just get too big. Usually those eventually go away.

I would imagine an embedded tic would cause discomfort....but I'm in no way an expert on that.

Good luck....and don't worry about being a worried greyhound papa!!

Ticks have legs. Really. Even an embedded one should have wiggling legs that are still exposed. You might want to take a flashlight and a magnifying glass to get a good look. (If the tick has died from exposure to a flea and tick med, there should still be legs. Just no wiggling.)

I have pulled two attached ticks from Nixon in the past couple of weeks. One on his buttocks, and one last night from his back.

He was not bothered by them at all.

I take crawling ones from us several times a week.

I've also had them attach on me...you cannot feel them when they bite.

One was attached on my upper arm...under my long sleeved turtle neck... and I had no idea that it was on me until I undressed that evening.

But...yes... an attached tick will still have his legs visible.

An imbedded one, you should be able to see one or two legs. None of it would be totally under the skin.
