Guest shesgeorge
My Splenda has been diagnosed with rare "Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor". Has anyone's greyhound had this diagnose? Splenda's surgery did not produce good margins. If anyone knows anything about this tumor, could you please let me know? Splenda's is in her right front leg between the paw and the first joint (knee?). Good margins could not be produced because the vet would have had to remove a ligament and major artery. If you have had an experience with this cancer, my vet would love to speak with your vet since there is not much information out there. Please share here or email me at shesgeorge@gmail.com Thank you.

GeorgeofNE
Your best bet is to contact Ohio State-- If anyone would know, it would be Dr. Couto. DaisyDoodle
Ask on Circle of Grey. There are a wide range of things folks have seen there. CoG is a Yahoo Group. Ditto--I'd also recommend OSU. joejoesmom
Here is the website with the consultation form. Fill this out and someone from the OSU Greyhound Health and Wellness Program will get back to you. https://greyhound.osu.edu/consultationservice/consultation/ Or your vet can call: Stephanie Yochem, Referral Coordinator Ph: (614) 292-0950 Fx: (614) 292-1454 Dr. Couto has had some success using a chemo drug that is injected into soft tissue cancers. I don't know if he has done this with this particular cancer. If you have problems getting a hold of someone at OSU please let me know. I can try to help. JJNg
Another source of information would be a veterinary oncologist. Most oncologists are willing to do phone consults with general practice vets. If your vet isn't familiar with your closest oncologist, you can do a search on the ACVIM website. Guest greytkidsmom
Everyone has given you good advice to get your vet in touch with specialists. I did a brief google search and it sounds like Splenda's tumor type is similar to Kebo's fibrosarcoma. They are both tumors derived from an abnormal tissue response to injury. With fibrosarcoma, there is a very good prognosis if they can excise the whole tumor with wide margins. You may want to have Splenda seen by a board-certified surgeon or have her referred to your closest veterinary teaching hospital who may have both oncologists and surgeons. Big hugs.
