Guest Liz
Our senior girls recently started eating the birseed that falls on the ground when the birds are at the feeders, will this hurt her? Does anybody else have this issue? She does not seem to be having any problems in regards to this behavior and we beleive she is doing it because we cut down on the amount of food she was getting. She was putting on too much weight which was affecting her bad leg. Anyhelp would be appreciated.
Guest SpicyMom
My two girls will snack on the birdseed too. Doesn't seem to do much, mostly seems to go straight through and make for some interesting poop!
buddibear
It's going to give some added fiber!Poodle cleans up what the squirrels leave behind. Advice: Don't leave a 10# bag on the kitchen table with 2 surfers and a poo. It was a grand taffy pulling contest
macoduck
If she is eating the birdseed that falls from the feeder, she's also eating bird droppings. My crew got some extreme diarrhea just from drinking out of a bird bath will bird poop in it. WE removed the bird bath rather than have to go through that again. rschultz
I was told from my vet that dogs can't digest the seed thats why u see it come out in their poop and large quantities could be harmful. Quote Lexie is gone but not forgotten.💜
GreyPoopon
Edie loves bird seed. Other than making her poop more voluminous and hard to pick up (makes it crumbly), it hasn't hurt her yet. I know there's some risk from the poop (salmonella), but most of that seems to end up on my neighbours' side of the fence. PatricksMom
If she's hungry, try seeing if there are any vegetables she likes/agree with her system to bulk up the food she's eating. Anne
My dogs who are very well fed cannot pass up bird seed! I have a conure and they tend to throw the seed out of the cage, so my dog all act like vacuum cleaners and snarf it up. It does make for interesting poop. I would guess they eat the seed that falls on the ground out side too, but I've never seen it!
Guest BooBooMama
My Jen was a birdseed enthusiast. Her droppings were FULL of seed. My vet told me to stop her from eating it. It can cause diverticulitis, intestinal blockage and she could ingest bacteria from the bird droppings. I was a tough thing to stop her from doing so we moved the bird feeders to an area of the yard she could not reach. But we could still see her staring at the feeders longingly! Guest kydie
I don't like my pack eating bird seed, for them it causes intestional issues, our vet frowns upon this too, I removed the feeders years ago, I feel I do not need any added vet bills, my neighbors feed the birds, so they eat good in the neighborhood
PatricksMom
Do you have humming birds? You could feed those without any risk of your ladies chowing down on birdseed.
