Guest LHibner
We've had a bad 3 wks or so at our house..... You know about Troy's BP troubles....... Our Ash (just turned 9) hasn't been eating well for the past 3 wks we have had blood test & a full body x-ray with barium. Nothing showed up on the blood test or x-rays. The only thing found is a little bit of blood and crystals in his urine. He is now on antibiotics (incase it is a bladder infection) and something to coat his stomach. Our vet said that this is unlikely to effect his eating, but it's the only thing we can find. I can't get him to eat more than a few bites a day. I'm at my wits' end. He has refused his raw diet, canned food, kibble, mackirel, cooked hamburger, & cooked chicken. The only thing I can get him to eat is the smallest amount of raw lung and gullet, I'm talking only a few .oz. He seems to be still drinking. At least we know what is wrong with Troy......but with poor Ashy we are still in the dark. I don't know how long he can go on with out eating. I guess the next thing is ultra sound of his abdomen? One of my friends that works at a vet's office had mentioned about getting him tested for Addison's disease. Has anyone dealt with Addison’s before and what were you symptoms? So if you could send good healing thoughts our way we would be grateful. Liz, Doug and pups..... Edited April 27, 2009 by LHibner

Guest houndlover
Sometimes the stomach meds can bother their stomach, even if they are on something to help with an upset stomach. Daisy had crystals several years ago (she still is prone to them but she is on a special diet) and the vet said that she was in a lot of pain. Could it be that Ash is painful and doesn't want to eat? I would definitely schedule an abdominal ultrasound to see if you can try to figure out what is going on. Are there any other symptoms (Ie vomiting or diarrhea)? I know how frustrating it can be to try to get a dog to eat. I usually try to make some kind of bland concoction when my dogs are like that. They really seem to like rice, boiled chicken, meat baby food mixed with water and low sodium chicken broth. I hope your baby is feeling better soon. Guest LHibner
Surely someone somewhere along the lines has checked the teeth, right? I tried the rice and hamburger, he also refused cooked checken. I haven't tried meat baby food. He has beautiful teeth & gums. He still chews on bullies and he had a head x-ray, nothing going on there. He did eat a little bit of raw tripe, lung and gullet last night and this moning. Hopefully this means that the meds are starting to work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. He still seems depressed and is refusing most things.
CaliforniaGreys
I've been dealing with an Addisonian crisis for the past week. Misty stopped eating and now the only thing working is boiled chicken, baked white fish and baby food(just the meats) Addisons is a terrible ride until you can stabilize them. First clue for Misty was severe hind end weakness, shivering and not eating. Prednisone will usually bring them out of it. I sure hope you get to the bottom of what's going on. Lots of prayers coming from here Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
Guest LHibner
I'm so glad that you got Misty to eat something. I wish Ashy would follow suite. Ashy is getting his Addison's test tomorrow. I will be droping him off at the vets on my way to work. He will be there most of the day for the test. Good luck with Misty. Guest Winterwish
Sending healing thoughts out to Ashy. I hope the appointment at the vet went well and that a good treatment plan can be worked out for him. It might be good to keep vanilla Ensure in the refrig to give him. You can give it plain,or added to some milk or even a little half and half, which is good to try if Ashy does not really seem to want plain vanilla Ensure. Milk I think gives a more natural scent and may be more appetizing. Edited May 1, 2009 by Winterwish

Guest LHibner
The vet that did Ashy's ultrasound just called... His comments were: spleen looked a little larger than he would have expected liver looked a little smaller than he would have expected his intestine looked thicker than expected He saw no odvious masses. He put his comments in Ashy's records so the vet that is working with us could read them and talk with him. If I don't hear from them by 4pm I'm to call the vet working with Ashy and talk with her. Please keep your fingers crossed for my baby. Edited May 4, 2009 by LHibner

Guest LHibner
I just talked to Ashy's attending vet. She said since nothing exciting showed up on the ultrasound that the next step would be to send us to a specialist to biopsies his intestine since they appeared thicker than normal. Then we could find out if it is inflammatory bowl or some sort of cancer that might be causing this. We both talked for a while and she said that the treatment for both would be prednisone to help the ib or try to shrink the tumor/cancer. I think we are going to just try the prednisone to see if it helps him get an appetite back. He has been through so much this past few weeks I'm just worried about getting back on his food. No matter what it would end up being we would probably treat it the same way with the prednisone. We will see what happens. Please keep him in your thoughts. Guest LHibner
Troy's bp is good now but he is still panting a lot so I ordered him some “Dog Gone Pain” & Cosimine DS to see if it will help him. Has anyone ever used the DGP before or know anyone that has. I hope it's as good as it claims. I think the prednisone is helping Ashy. He has eaten 3 almost normal size meals in a row. It is such a relief to see him eat. All of the Good Thoughts and good meds seem to be working.
