We brought Waldo into the vet this morning to see what to do. This morning his gums are on the pale side which they haven't been since all of this has happened. We ran a cbc test and his levels are now off. His red blood cell count is very low and his white blood cell count is slighty low. His lymph nodes are very swollen this morning. Our vet believes that it is some sort of lymphoma. The problem we have now and even our vet said that he really only has days left on what we are doing right now. He will not eat any food and has no interest.

The sad part is that his blood work has never shown any problems and that is why this is so hard. So now we wait till tomorrow to get the results of the needle biopsy of his lymph nodes. Our vet is running this so that we can get some kind of proof of a problem so that Waldo's mom will let him go. Mind you she has never had to put a greyhound down yet, or lost one, so this is also her first one to have lost. So today is a day to love Waldo and say our good byes.

I will post more when I go and see him tonight.

Yes, he has been tested for tick born dieses with everything negative.

No ultrasound. Our vet doesn't feel that there is a need for one as there is not much hope of him coming out of this. Also we would have to find a specialist that had a ultrasound and that is just not in the cards right now. We are truly heart broken that we can't fix Waldo.

Are they at least able to keep him comfortable while you wait? I sure hope so!! My heart really goes out to him and his mom. Tragic all the way around. How very kind of you to be there for both of them! Lots of prayers

Waldo is just the sweetest baby and his mom is a very special lady. I can't imagine how this feels. Please give Waldo a gentle scritch and a kiss for me and give Lori a big hug.

If there is anything, absolutely anything, please call me. :grouphug

horngreys - I am truly saddened to hear this about Waldo. I lost my girl last year to lymphosarcoma of the heart. She never showed any symptoms until the very last day. She played that morning, ate and was her normal self until that evening. She started panting and almost collapsed. We rushed her in only to find out through exrays that she had an extremely large mass on her heart and the cancer had already metastized in her lungs, too. She lacked 10 days of turning 12 and she never let anyone know she was sick. She was my world.

I had always promised each one of my kids that when their time came, I would not be selfish and keep them around to save myself from the heart ache - that I would let them go in peace and with all of my love.

When I asked Jackie if she wanted me to let her go, she actually licked me on the cheek for the first time in all the 7 years I had her. She always did a Hollywood kiss (kind of brushing my cheek a little with her tongue) but not this time. It was a complete full lick and her eyes met mine at the same time. That was her way of telling me it would be ok to let her go. I granted her wish and let her go although it is still extremely painful for me to talk about it and to bear each day now.

Jackie also passed on the very same day my first Grey, Hannah, passed away on - May 26th - only 7 years later.

PLease tell Waldo's mom that I am truly sorry and although my words are a mere source of comfort at this time - it's all I have to offer. My thoughts and prayers are with Waldo and his mom during this most difficult time.

I'm just reading this now and this is truly heartbreaking :cry1 . With each post I read I was hoping to find that something had been found and treatment would be started. I am so sorry that things are turning out as they are. Sending lots of comforting thoughts to Waldo and his family.

Thank you to everyone. We are making sure he is comfortable. We give him pain meds when it is needed. Right now he is taking a nap with his mom. Thanks MJ and everyone else. We will all be hanging out with Waldo tonight and helping his mom make a very hard decision.

Thank you to everyone who prayed for Waldo and his mom. Waldo went to the rainbow bridge this morning. He was in a lot of pain this morning and couldn't keep anything down. We will get the results from the tests on his lymph nodes this afternoon. That should conferm all of our thought and give him mom Lori more peace.

On our way home Lori told me that she knows that Waldo is at peace and a great weight is lifted off her shoulders. Here is a picture of sweet Waldo when he was at my house. We will miss you Waldo. Rest in peace.
