Guest Giselle Posted November 18, 2008 Share Posted November 18, 2008 Let's hope it's a soft tissue injury Awful thing to wish for, I know. She's been limping for almost a week now. She used to get a little bruised during roughhousing with the crazymutt and she'd do a little light limping that usually subsided within 2-3 days. However, she's been heavily favoring her left back leg for several days and it's not improving. Her appetite, bowel movements, etc. are all normal. When she's really desperate, she can put weight on her sore leg as long as her leg is forward so that her feet are splayed out. She looks like me when I pulled my Achilles, so I'm hoping it's something like a tendon/ligament issue...In the meantime, she's off to the vet! Giselle is still limping, but very happy and active (well, as active as a limping dog can be!). I'm SURE it's just a soft tissue injury... She poked and prodded Gis a bit, and there wasn't a lot of soreness except for this spot near her femur. So we're back home with a week's worth of pain depressants. If she still shows discomfort after a week, we're going back to do some testing. Giselle's on Carprofen and it's obviously numbing the pain enough for her to put progressively more weight on her bum leg. However, when I'm late on her meds, she'll revert back to lifting her foot up/putting little to no weight on the leg. It has been about 1.5-2 weeks since I noticed the limping and it has been about 5 days since the vet visit. I have a feeling that, once her meds are up, it'll be back to Square 1. Has anybody had experience with a soft tissue injury that lasted this long? If it is the dreaded c-word, her x-rays sure don't show it. Blood test next? If there's nothing to see on the x-rays and nothing (like a corn) on her pads, not sure there is a lot else to do. Blood test could give clues to tick disease, valley fever (are you in a vf area?). Here's a post from that day when we started meds: $215 later, ( ) Riley is just fine! He had 2 x-rays taken, and ~ DIAGNOSIS: Swelling. He is on Meloxicam for 6 days, and cannot be walked for 2 weeks. I'm so happy everthing is A-ok!!!! That was 9 days ago. Riley was prescribed 6 days of Meloxicam, after 6 days was up, he reverted right back to his limping. I am keeping him on the Meloxicam longer. With Riley the vet seemed very sure it was not cancer. I think it can just take awhile. My aunt in Florida says it has been unusually cold lately for Florida, which has been aggravating her oldest cat's arthritis.
