Guest brit1
I asked my vet about the link between microchips and cancer, she said there is some investigation going on regarding this altho its unlikely and for me to wait until next year. Has anyone else felt it may be dangerous to microchip? I know most adopted dogs/greys usually come already done so there is no discussion but I have one adopted dog who is not already done and because I seem to have had so many heartbreaks lately I am reluctant to do anything that may endanger his health. Anyone else concerned about this subject? If I do it I will go with Home Again as they claim their chip is best but who knows anne
TheFullHouse
One of ours is micro chipped because his ear tats are unreadable. We haven't had any problems because of the chip. dante2zoe
I just asked my vet the exact same question! I was told that there is some looking at it, but that there hasn't been a causal link established at this point. That wasn't as comforting as I would have liked. I have a whippet that was chipped before I got him and he has had cancer. I certainly don't want anything else to happen to that poor little guy! Guest SusanP
What kind of cancers are they concerned about?
ShantisMom
I have heard this as well. I also asked the vet. They were a little wishy washy on it. So I did not chip Asti while she was being spayed. I don't think they have any major conclusive study done, but I could be wrong. By the way Anne, it is good to see you again! I have been wondering how you are doing. We think about you often. Quote The Girls
ahicks51
Risk of cancer versus risk of recovery (or lack thereof). I'll take the modest cancer risk. The body reacts to anything that is injected into it; this reaction is usually not to form aggressive malignancies. It's not something intrinsic to the chip (i.e., chemicals, radiation, radio waves- which the chip cannot emit on its own), but just to... being there, and being treated as a foreign body. seeh2o
My dogs are chipped and, because I'm super paranoid since Kobie ran away last year, Carl also now wears a Kooga Pet tag. Sunny's human, Lauren, told me about them on Sunday while we were walking Sunny & Carl. I stopped and picked one up the next day. It's very easy to put your information in and Carl is already wearing it. For those who are worried about potential risks from micro chips it's a great alternative.
