Guest hannahmom
Chinghis spent the day at home sleeping under the watchful eye of Daddy No changes to houseplants or new yard plants or anything According to DH he even did a small jog around the yard but his muzzle is still a little swollen He scared me so badly, but I am guardedly optimistic. He sems to have aged soooo much since Tuesday, but aged is just fine as long as he's here with me. I love this dog so much Edited April 23, 2008 by hannahmom

Guest hannahmom
Well, the swelling is back full force, but without the fever this time Blood tests say no infection and swelling is localized to the face - he looks like an Airdale. I took a vacation day and cancelled a weekend trip so I could monitor him - does anyone have any home remedies that might help? I called the vet, and they say that it is an allergic rxn and there isn't anything else they could do. They did suggest switching from 25 mg Benedryl 3 times a day to 4 mg Chlorotryphine ( sp) every 6 hours to see of the new med would bring the swelling down. Cool compresses were also suggested. No plants - I can't keep them alive There's still frost on the ground here - nothing is growing yet We do get ants occassionally, but nothing this year - still too cold Prayers gratefully accepted I have not one clue what is causing this, but this has been 1 long rxn with ebbs and flows, he hasn't ever fully recovered from Monday night I'm off soon to get some new meds Edited April 26, 2008 by hannahmom

Guest BlackandBrindle
Poor guy! For swelling, I've been told cool/cold compresses a few minutes at a time, several times a day. Keeping your sweet boy in my prayers
Guest Snowy8
I had something like this happen with one of my elkhounds & it turned out to be an absessed tooth. Her face swelled on one side. We did some xrays & it showed an infection, he treated it with antibiotics & the swelling went down & then all of a sudden about 2 days later, her whole nose, both eyes were swollen shut. He went in & pulled the tooth & she was fine after that.

Guest hannahmom
I went back to the vet and they gave me some steroids to relieve some of the swelling. I swelling is localized to the face and muzzle, but not so localized as to visibly be due to an external trauma He had a physical 2 weeks ago and came back A++ Bloodwork shows nothing to indicate any sort of infection, including dental He's sleeping now, but he looks like an Airdale - no greyhound face shape at all If there is not dramatic improvement by Monday, then we'll be getting a referal to the Atlantic Vet College with a specialist. If you have any prayers to spare, please send one for the best dog in the world. Tena Edited April 26, 2008 by hannahmom
CaliforniaGreys
Lots of prayers for your boy. What a mystery. I know you said his dental checked out fine, but when one of my boys was really swollen from extractions, I applied ice, 15 min on and 15 min off. It really helped bring the swelling down. I hope he gets some comfort soon!! Newgreymom
I would certainly have him checked for a tooth absess. Our Dalmatian had that once and all that swelled was his face. Maybe check with a different vet? Good luck and prayers your way... Edited April 28, 2008 by Newgreymom
