DH wanted the white and red brindle male and I wanted the brown brindle female. We compromised and brought home both! The name Cris was already taken at our house (me), so Cris McNelley was renamed Kona. It wasn't too long before I was calling her by nicknames: my little coffee bean, the bean, beanie. Kona was a wonderful dog. She was my little smarty pants. She was always mentally 2 steps ahead of the others and you could see the wheels turning. I watched her bark at a window just to trick her brother out of the bed she wanted. She hated being pushed by the boys and would patiently wait to go through the doorway last. She was the most incredible bed fluffer ever; the bed usually ended up in the middle of the room. When she barked, her front legs went off the ground. She loved her stuffies and particularly enjoyed when we hid them under her bed (just another excuse to attack a bed). Every time she got a greenie or bone, she did a playbowing dance with it. Her kidneys had been failing for months but we were managing it. 2 weeks ago she developed internal bleeding thought to be vasculitis.
