Will she come out for treats? My Finn will go ANYWHERE for a milkbone! Will she come out for her food? When it's been particularly cold at night sometimes Finn doens't want to go out for his last potty - then he'll just go lay in his crate and wants to stay there. I coax him out with a milkbone and then take him out. Then he gets another treat when he comes in for being such a good boy to go out in the cold.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but was curious about this statement. It makes sense to me because I HAVE seen times when two dogs are "introduced" while leashed and the outcome is not good. When my daughter brought her puggle over to meet our greyhound for the first time, we let them meet outside (as suggested by my adoption rep) and it only seemed to make her puggle more agitated and agressive. They did much better a couple of weeks later when we went to her house and the dogs were jsut together in the house for an afternoon with us. No problems that day AT ALL... I was wondering if there is any good way to introduce two dogs to each other? Like if someone is coming to visit with their dog... I would like to do it the "right" way, if I knew what the "right" way was!

I have a small older dog who needs more frequent potty times, so I tend to give my greyhound a turn each time I take my little dog out. I don't take them out together since there has been snow almost the whole month I've had my grey and I just feel better taking them one at a time. My little dog does his business quickly, and my grey will do pees quickly but when I know she needs to poop (after meals) I do a longer walk for her. We don't have a fenced yard so I have to go out with them and it can be a hassle, but like I said, they do their business quickly for pees. I don't think it's a problem to take my grey out frequently. He does fine for several hours in his crate when I'm at work and goes all night with no difficulty.

I only crate Finn at night and when we are out of the house. I would honestly love to have him in the bedroom with me, but my husband has allergy symptoms if our animals are in the bedroom - he is fine with them in the rest of the house, though. But I don't feel bad as our little dog sleeps in the kitchen in a crate very close to Finn's, and the two of them are good company for each other. I come home for an hour every day at lunchtime as I am fortunate enough to work only a few blocks from home, and only work 4 days a week. The first week he would whine and then escalate to barking at times during the night. Our adoption group rep recommended that I correct him by calling our for him to "Cut it out" or "Knock it off" and if he started up again to go up to him with a squirt bottle and give him a squirt in the face. I HATED doing that, but it worked and I only had to do it a couple of times. He just had to get used to sleeping in his crate in our kitchen. However, when we are home our dogs are with us. We let them follow us into whatever room we are in (except the bedroom), and have dog beds for them. My little dog is 15 and I don't let him wander around unsupervised, as he sometimes has accidents. So if I am in the kitchen cooking or working, I will shut the gate so they stay out there with me. But Finn likes to be with me and doesn't wander anyway. I try to be available for lots of pets for him - I find that if I give him lots of attention then he is content to lay and watch me cook or work without whining. Good luck figuring out what works with your grey. The transition can be trying - but once she feels safe and comfortable she will be less "needy" and more relaxed.

Interesting reading. We've had Finn in our house for almost two weeks. His nails were trimmed right before he came home, and I was assured by his foster mother that "I can do this!" He has light colored nails, which is a plus. But I have never clipped a dog' snails in my life and I am just a little bit nervous. I have seen some YouTube videos and am reading up on threads like this. I don't want to make it a big deal and show my anxiety - but I AM a bit nervous... My little dog Arthur has black nails and gets them clipped at the groomers when he has his fur trimmed. My last grey, Tori, had black nails too, and I had either the vet or the groomer do hers. Wish me luck - I am going to make the attempt in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, will start handling his feet on a daily basis. Sounds like a good plan!

Trudy, I was so sorry to hear about Jet. I will always remember the first greys I read about on Greytalk 12 years ago - and Jet was one of the most memorable. She was one of the reasons I wanted a greyhound and ultimately enjoyed my Tori so much. My heart goes out to you on the loss of your special girl...

Trudy - I am so sorry for the loss of your dear Ryan. I haven't been on very much over the past few weeks and just realized today when I was looking at the pic you posted of T and Jet. I was wondering why Ryan wasn't in the photo and then I saw your signature. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved grey and my heart goes out to you. Tam

I'll be in West Virginia visiting DH's sister's family. It's the party for our nephew's 7th birthday.

Sheila, I'm so sorry to read of Kiowa's passing. He was one of the original greyhounds I "got to know" after joining Greytalk 7 years ago, and those hounds are one of the reasons I continue to lurk on this board. The greys I read about here are very special to me. I understand how he changed your life - I feel the same about my Tori who was only with me for 3 years. Kiowa was a wonderful soul and he won't be forgotten. I know how sad you must be feeling, but take comfort in knowing that you gave him such a good and happy life. God bless you.

Reading your post brought me to tears. We lost our beloved Tori almost exactly 3 years ago. She was almost 11 1/2. She had only been with us for 3 years, but they were good years and left us with many happy memories. Even after 3 years, I miss her terribly... Your family and Mustard will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you for giving her such a good life - and God bless these sweet greys for all the sweet and gentle love they bring to our lives.

But the very next topic I went to looked normal. Everything SEEMS fast tonight. How would we know if our browser does or does not cache CSS files? By browser, do you mean Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, etc? I have IE, and it does SEEM faster tonight...

I remember too. It's hard to believe it's been two years... It's been less than a year since Tori's passing, and it still feels very fresh at times.

I try to stay out of this forum because I always end up crying, and that's what I'm doing as I read this topic... I miss Tori's quiet, gentle presence - and her joyous greeting when I'd come home form work. I miss seeing her lying so peacefully on her dog bed, with little Arthur curled up beside her. I miss her loving brown eyes following my every move. I miss watching her dreams of running. I miss rubbing her tummy and getting her into a "goofy" mood. I miss kissing her forehead and her snout. I miss cupping her beautiful head in my hand and gazing into her eyes...

Patty - I'm in tears reading your tribute to Sophia. She was such a darling, precious girl. I also feel honored to have had a senior to love, and who gave me so much more than I can ever express. It's so hard to lose these beloved babes that meant so much to us, but our lives were so enriched by their presence - however sadly brief the years we had.

I'm sitting here with tears flowing for Suzi and her owners. I never met Suzi, but I've been inspired in reading about her on the internet and looking at her pictures in their van and her rickshaw. My tears are for the loss of such a wonderful spirit, but also tears of joy for the life she led and the love she shared.

Your people will undoubtedly be pleased with you for your great skill in detecting it. Elizabeth - tell Savannah she has a cousin named Tori (Bahama Lass)! Kunta Kinte is her great grandsire! (I think - I'm not sure how the terminology goes!) Tori's sire Trouper Zeke is by Wincarnis out of Nice Catch. Nice Catch is by Kunta Kinte out of Peaceful Car.

MPP (Mary Pat?) - Topaz and Tori are half-sisters - they have the same sire - Trouper Zeke. I checked him out on the Greyhound Geneology link, and he has a whaopping 1226 known offspring listed! And that doesn't even include any litters to Let's Go Mama, Topaz' dam. What a prolific dog! The famous Dutch Bahama has 1698 offspring listed in the database, so our good old Trouper Zeke must have been OK in comparison.
