  1. Smart They run or lay. Not too much inbetween
  2. Did you shove them down or give them in something like cream cheese? Had he eaten?
  3. I've had most need it and one or two not. The problem with not doing them when needed is that bad teeth affect the kidneys and heart. Dentals for those who need them are a neccessary evil

  5. Smooches to Tania! Some handle it better than others. The xpen is a great idea. Most of girls lay around for a few days and then are fine.
  6. July 25, 2007 Hi Diane, I'm not sure if I gave you the update on Winslow's complete thyroid panel, but it was normal. I'm glad we didn't get too excited and start medication. The vet said everything else is normal and he's not having symptoms so they don't know why this particular test is low, but nobody is worried about it any more. Winslow has gained one pound this week, so he's regained most of the weight he lost at the beginning of the summer. I want him to gain only one more pound and I will be very happy with his weight. Not too skinny, but still light enough that he's not carrying an extra load up and down the stairs. His race weight was 78. When he got sick, it was 83. It dropped during and right after the chemo to 71. Without the leg, 75 seems to be a good weight for him. He gets around easily but doesn't look too thin. Right now, he's at 74. I don't want him too heavy because he gets hot during the summer and extra weight can't be good for that. Winslow has a #3 heart murmur so extra weight isn't good. He had two heart ultrasounds during the chemo and the cardiologist said that swimming would be excellent for his heart. My regular vet said give him co-enzyme q10, which we started after the chemo (it's antioxidant and should not be given during chemo). SOUND THE HORNS! Winslow swam his usual 2 single laps and today HE SWAM 10 DOUBLE LAPS! He was happy to do it and did all the turns perfectly on command! It's about the only thing he does on command. He knows "stay" and now "turn". The rest is just conversation, which he understands perfectly and then does whatever he pleases. Oh well. It's still hot here, but Winslow isn't as hot as he was. I think the chemo is finally getting out of his system, but he's still doing the night shift. He's still sleeping ON me as well. This boy would have growled and snapped at me for sleeping like this before he got sick. As soon as he came home from the hospital, he started doing this. You would think with his heat issues, he wouldn't want to be so close. But no. If I dare to sleep on the sofa, he gets up and puts his nose right in my face and whines! Overall, I continue to see improvement in Winslow's attitude, behavior, playfulness and self confidence. Although some of his old habits have changed a bit, he's pretty much back to his old self. His next oncology check up is in OCTOBER!! Hooray! Glynis

  9. I'm sorry to hear My vet sometimes gives a sedation shot and it has never made them agitated. I will try & remember to ask what it is.
  10. Some do not understand you must ask for more testing from Protatek--many get the basic panel which includes VF, RMSF, Babsia, Lyme & Erlichia canis. You can get all the others (I think) that NC State uses. Protatek
  11. You are probably thinking of Dr. Bill Feeman. The name of the clinic should be in the pinned vet list at the top of this forum
  12. According to some. I know adoption agencies who use Protatek exclusively and I know Antech sends there babesia testing to Protatek. They are extremely knowledgable about greyhounds, the price is much less expensive and they are accessable for consults if needed. Test for all the erlichias, not just canis.
  13. What parasite powder? I'd have the vet check him out.
  14. I put not sure. As most of you know, Rob Roy made #16 I sent off since November of 1998. No, it does not get easier, it gets harder. I cannot schedule the appointment. I sometimes have a day in mind and make up my mind the morning I get up. It's easier (not easy) when the decision is quite clear, like Rob Roy. He was in so much pain all I could think of was getting him out of pain (he went to the ER clinic). Hospice care takes a lot out of you. Heart--I was ready two months before she was and I had the confirmation of two vets that were treating her that it was not time. I remember doing hospice on two at once--SieSie & Shadow and sending them off the same day. I think of my parents and what a shock it was, however, how blessed I didn't have to see them in hospice. My Dad went to sleep in his chair and my Mom went to sleep and didn't wake up. In some ways, not knowing is a shock however you don't have to see the "I want to live, I don't care how", but then there is "I should have done(s)" this and that. So it depends on whether one does live like we should--that every day could be our (or their's) last day. Hopefully this makes some sense. When I think of my bridge kids, the burden can be very large......

  17. If you do a search in this category for Revolution (search button on top), you will find a lot of threads. I remember in one or two threads that some vets won't use it due to dogs showing up hw positive.
