  1. Whew! What a relief. Eliza didn't act sick until the day she bled out Always recheck a platelet count that is low.
  2. Yes, what she said Do NOT deny her access to water. She needs to flush the kidneys.
  3. Poor Alex! He sure is a fighter. Sending lots of prayers, for him and you
  4. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Please send prayers she can have a few good weeks at least. Last night she felt good enough that she almost ran. Took a few strides and stopped. So today, she is hurting when she walks. Lots of drugs on board. Comfortable night--slept the whole night thru and no panting. Ate a good breakfast.
  5. Several people on the GH L have complained about the same thing. The majority of the time I use Fresh Factors (chondroitin from bovine) and MSM from Whole Foods. There is glucosamine in Joint Health (made by Springtime Ind.) and my guys have not had a problem with looses stools when they are on it.
  6. April 11, 2008 Lolasmom wanted to know what a peanut butter muzzle is. Winslow is the biggest sissy in the world. He cries and screams for the slightest procedure.. nails, vaccinations, blood work, everything. I tried to muzzle him for his nails, but he hated the muzzle as bad as getting his nails done. Winslow will do anything for peanut butter, so I coat the inside of a turnout muzzle with peanut butter. It allows for 10 minutes of doing things to him that he doesn't like. We have 3 muzzles pre loaded and a full jar of peanut butter whenever we go to the vet. They are pretty good about it and now have it timed to a complete checkup in 2 muzzles... including chest xrays. I can get his nails done in one muzzle. I started this shortly after we got him because I just couldn't stand to hear him screaming and have him get so worked up about these things. Now, he hears the dremel and comes running in for his manicure. After we take the muzzle off, I give it to him. He takes it to the bed, sticks his head in it (usually backward) and enjoys the rest of the peanut butter. It makes all those nasty treatments more tolerable, even pleasant. I don't think we would have gotten through all the surgery, chemo and check ups without it. Winslow recommends it to everyone. As usual, photos are attached. Glynis
  7. What are the rest of the blood test results? Platelets, HCT & RBC? 1:80 is iffy. Depends on symptoms. I'd redo the babesia at North Carolina unless other symtoms are present. I really hesitated to treat Tootsie and even though she went into vestibular disease after the second shot, her blood test results tell me I did the right thing. Re erlichia: all postive results should be treated according to Dr. Stack (bold added) you can find a lot of good info and ask questions by joining the Tick List edited to add: while talking with Dr. Couto at SP, I mentioned I thought there was a tick disease we are not testing for or is new and he commented "probably more than one".
  8. April 11, 2008 As soon as I told Winslow, he started packing for the beach! Now, he's ready for a vacation! Glynis Check out my blog: www.coffeeandapainting.com www.glynisberger.com (NEW YEAR, NEW ART!) www.de-yong.com Somewhere in this thread are pictures of Winslow at the vacation spot they go--he loves it there
  9. With Mahogany we are using pred, tramadol and morphine. The pred really helped and I have no idea why. Sending prayers. (have I mentioned I hate cancer? )
  10. I might try a specialist at this point. I have battled staph in Dobes--not fun. I'd try building up the immune system. Maybe some Transfer Factor www.betterherbs.com
  11. Sending prayers for quick healing. Yes, muzzles in the yard now. She will heal
  12. She went back today for xrays and nail trim. There is now a definite, I think he said, star burst pattern. He told me he was sorry--what a neat vet He's had to send too many of my guys off. We will keep her comfortable. Funny, she's been playing with stuffies this week. I hate cancer
  13. April 9, 2008 Hi Diane, Winslow had his big check up this morning. I, of course haven't slept all week. I have no reason to believe there's anything wrong, but you know how I am about these things. Dr. C. saw nothing on the xrays and has no reason to believe anything is wrong either. The test results (radiology, blood, urine) won't be in until tomorrow, so you know, I'm still nervous until I hear something from the almighty lab. Last week, I found a fan that operates on the same battery as my battery operated drill and saw. I got it to put in the car for Winslow.. you know, "personal fan" I took it with us to the vets today. There was Winslow in the waiting room, lounging on his go everywhere bed and keeping cool with "l'il fanny". The maintenance man came by and commented on Winslow's power tools. Dr. C. and Joy thought it was a good idea. Everyone thought it was funny, but Winslow thought it was cool. Although he was happy to see Joy and Dr. C, he wasn't happy about getting up at 6:am, no breakfast, needles, xrays or being prodded. The peanut butter muzzles help, but he's really glad to go home. Fortunately, they don't make us wait very long. I think we have preferred customer status. Craig had his breakfast waiting when we got home and then it was right to bed with the pheasants. I'll let you know what they say tomorrow. Glynis April 10, 2008 WOOHOO!!!! Winslow gets another A+ check up!!!! It's PARTY TIME!
  14. NancyB did I think with Marvin. You might email her.
  15. What would be best is a vet certified in chiropractic (AVCA) and acupuncture (CHI or IVAS). I have heard that acupuncture definetely helps and have seen reports on TV featuring one of our local acupuncture vets--how the acupuncture cuts down on seizures and saves many a trip to the ER.
  16. She's one I thought would live forever.....I'm sad for you She's ok--probably already had Jodie bake her a cake! Run like a young one again sweet girl.
  17. Deramaxx is very hard on the stomach. If you are giving it, stop and call your vet. Do you have an alternative vet close? If you do not know, email me your city/state and I'll look for you Burpdog@msn.com
  18. First, I'd have the leg xrayed to make sure the plate is still where it should be. Xrays can be read by a specialist. Sometimes a specialist is more to go to for the xrays, but many times not. Second, try a chondroitin source like Fresh Factors from Springtime Inc. Right now they have a buy 2 get 1 free plus 20% off (till May 31). There are other options but make sure the chondroitin is from bovine and not shark. IMO it is much better to go with supplements before trying aspirin and other NSAIDs.
  19. April 3, 2008 Hi Diane, Here's a little something to brighten your day: Winslow's been reading the mail again. This time, it was a magazine with a rawhide bone on the cover. I guess he thought the article would be of interest to him since I don't give him rawhide. I'm glad to see his taste in literature improving. Last time he did some "reading", it was the issue of Rolling Stone with Britney Spears on the cover. I found pieces of her lying around for weeks. No further comment. Glynis
