  1. I know exactly how you feel on this subject. My husband is not a big animal person (never grew up with pets as a child) and just does not understand the bond I have with ours. He does not mistreat them in anyway but I often feel he just tolerates them for me. I love him dearly but he is also the "just see what happens" guy. I know he feels they are more of just pets while I on the other hand feel they are my children, I would do anything to help them or stop them from being in pain. Have you tried sitting down with him and telling him how you feel about everything? I find this helps me, my hubby might not be able to feel the same way I do about our pets but he cares about me and cares about how I'm feeling.
  2. After reading about this product previously on greytalk I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered them a few days ago and can't wait for them to come in the mail. I've heard nothing but good things about the product.
  3. Sometimes I feel so awkward telling people what our cats name is. He came with the name when we got him and knew it really well so we didn't change it. I just don't want people to think me and DH are ragging alcoholics or anything Aidan and Brewski were fine after and normally always are. They are not really friends but are perfectly happy ignoring each other and pretending the other dose not exist.
  4. I can totally relate with you on this situation. The same thing happened with me and my boys Aidan and Brewski. Before we got Aidan I used to (DONT LAUGH!) walk Brewski on a cat harness around in the yard so he could be outside safely. Every time the door opens now he thinks its time for him to go on one of his adventures. He darted out once and Aidan chased after him. Just like you I screamed my head off which seemed to do nothing until I was able to grab him by the collar and take him inside. It is truly terrifying. I though I was going to watch my dog murder my cat right in front of me.
  5. I've never used Cytoxan with a grey but if its the same thing they use for people I went through two 6 month sessions of cytoxan for my lupus/kidney disease with no major side effects. I know it might not transfer the same to dogs.
  6. I wish I had that issue. I seem to have a hard time keeping Aidan slimmed down. He only gets 1 1/2 cups twice a day but still seems to be getting a bit chunky. I think its party my fault though, I am a bit heavy handed with treats! shame on me
  7. I kept thinking this as well but I have looked at both his front feet multiple times (even brought home a soak from the vet to use) and have seen nothing that even looks close to a corn or a developing corn. Is it possible for it still to be deeper within the pad and eventually will be visible when it comes to the surface?
  8. Really!? Maybe I misunderstood my vet about the Deramaxx because it does seem to help a lot! Is the blood work done yearly? every six months? We did check for corns, multiple times! I think my vet was getting annoyed with me because everytime I took him in I would be like "Are you sure its not a corn? maybe its just hard to see? can you check again?"
  9. Thanks for the Costco suggestion! I don't have a card but have a lot of pet loving friends who do. He is currently on Welactin as far as fish oil goes but I'm going to check out Iceland Pure, it looks like it might be a better deal. I just feel so helpless in that after all the vet visits we still havnt found a solution yet. I do trust my vet though she is great and actually sees a good amount of greyhounds at the practice but a second opinion might be worth a try! Thanks for the advice NeylasMom! When I have to make posts like this I'm so happy I found greytalk.
  10. My boy Aidan recently developed a limp in his left leg which began when the weather started to get cold here in VA. How bad it is comes and goes each day and is worse when the weather is colder. After multiple vet visits, a course of antibiotics, blood work, additional heart worm test and x-rays the only conclusion we could come to is that its most likely early arthritis. I was very saddened by this news since he is only 5 and I feel has a lot of years ahead of him. It also seemed to come out of the blue. We used to go for walks twice a day and now it is a struggle for him to walk down the hall. He currently on a weeks worth of Derramax which I know will not be a permanent solution but it does seem to give him releif. I have also started giving him Dasuquin but I know those effects often can't be seen for months after starting. I am willing to do anything I can to make him more comfortable and have heard that switching to a grain free food often helps the inflammation associated with arthritis. Does anyone have any experience with this being beneficial? He is currently eating IAMS red bag and I thought about just switching him to the IAMS grain free naturals since I'm already happy with IAMS and it is kind to the wallet.
  11. 9 months! How in the world did you manage?!? Aidan is on his second week of a 2 week doggy bed rest and he and I are already going crazy. He begs me for walks everyday and makes me feel so guilty for not being able to take him. He eventually gives up trying and just lays in his bed with this "I hate you mom" look on his face. One thing I can suggest for a good inside quiet activity is a hidden treats type game. I got the idea from someone on here a few months ago. I take a box and fill it with crumpled news paper. I then take a high value treat, which for Aidan is some boiled chicken and put small chucks around in the box. He has fun searching around the box for them and he takes him awhile to find them all. Hes not the best at the game and does not know he can just take the newspaper out so he just sticks his whole head in the box and noses around till he finds something.
  12. When I got my greyhound and joined grey talk this was the first topic I started because I felt exactly how you do! I know others will tell you the same thing but thats pretty much just Fusion being a greyhound I'll quote a response I got from another member that helped me see that behavior like Fusions and my Aidans is not out the norm: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTED BY OPointyDog: Sounds pretty normal to me. I used to feel terrible about leaving my dogs alone all day while I was at work, until I stayed home with them a few times and realized they sleep all day, everyday. Here's a typical work day schedule at our place: 7:30am dogs fed 8am 30 minute walk 8:45 I leave for work 8:46-5:59 Dogs sleep, people work/commute 6pm Return from work, feed dogs dinner 6:30 Dogs walked 30-40 min 7:30ish Dogs get a kong while I cook dinner Zoe then lays down on her bed and naps, and Mika will play with toys, do his zoomies or be a pest wanting petting until I relent 9ish dogs go out into the yard. Zoe zooms around with her ball (even if it's dark), Mika stands on the deck wanting to come in 9ish Snacktime (tiny bit of kibble, wet food, and calming biscuits for Mika; meds for Zoe) 9:01 - as soon as snacktime is done, both of them conk out and go to sleep 12:30 am - last call in the back yard before bed - Zoe has to be forced out, and I follow them around to make sure they both pee. They go out on leashes so nobody catches critters in the dark. We are extremely lucky that neither of them bothers us in the morning. They just sleep and wait for us to get up. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Here is also the link to the thread I started awhile ago that is full of great responses and suggestions: http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/309265-is-he-bored/?hl=bored As far as my Aidans day go goes its pretty much like this on days that me and my husband both work. 7:00am Wake up and whine for breakfast 8:00am Go for morning walkies (usually about 30 mins) 8:30-12pm Get a treat and lay around while mom cleans house and gets ready for work, and occasional chasing of the cat! (potty breaks before mom leaves at 12) 12pm-5pm Sleep until daddy gets home from work (or till 3 if moms works morning shift that day) 5:30pm eat dinner 6:30pm go on evening walkies with mom 7:00pm-around 10:30 go between napping, following mom around the house, and bugging dad while he tries to eat dinner. 11:00pm night night time I hope that some of this information will help you for more at easy with Fusion!
  13. Aidan is currently on doggy bed rest and so far it has not been going well lol. I can control that he cant go on walks but when he randomly decides to do zoomies around the house its hard to stop him! So I feel your pain.
  14. Maybe I will try that next time. Should I be worried about him taking the whole thing in though? The bone is all digestible right?
  15. So after reading about how magical chicken feet are as a treat I finally found a Asian food store in my area that carried them. I bought a package and brought them home still nervous about feeding my boy this gross looking foot. After reading a bit more on the forums about how everyone's pups LOVE them, I got up the courage to go out into the kitchen and give him his first foot. He didn't even chew it! He pretty much swallowed the whole foot in one bite! Should I be considered? Has anyone else had a grey who wont even chew the foot? I'm so worried now that maybe it wasn't the best idea for him.
  16. I just had a very similar problem start with Aidan in the past week. He has started limping a bit on one foot. It is worse when he gets up from laying down for long periods of time and seems to get better the more he walks around. In VA it has started to get cold and since Aidan lived most of his life in FL I know this is a big change for him. I think the colder temps might be affecting some old injuries or some arthritis is setting in. I picked up a bottle of Dasuquin from my vet today in hopes that it might just be a little arthritis. A joint supplement might be worth looking into if the problem continues with Logan and the vet doesn't find anything more serious.
  17. Both of these things are driving me crazy on my walks with Aidan recently! I know this is common dog behavior but every time Aidan stops to do his business (of the number 2 kind) when he is finished, he does the back feet kick! 9 out of 10 times this sends the fresh turds flying through the air . I have recently picked off poop from the side of a fence, my neighbors lawn ornaments, tire of a car, and numerous other difficult places. As soon as I see that he is done I try to pull him away quick enough but sometimes he is faster. When I give him a good tug as soon as hes done pooping he gives me this most annoyed look like "what the heck mom!" Does anyone else have a poop punter? Sorry about the rant but while I'm at it another thing is Aidan's new doggy brakes he has acquired. We take a similar route for our walks every morning and recently when we get to the streets that circle back to our house Aidan puts on the brakes. He will go from a happy trot to slow as a turtle! I think he has become spoiled and knows that we are headed home and it is his way of pouting about it. He LOVES walks and would walk all day if I let him. I feel the neighbors look out their window and see me walking and dragging this "poor old greyhound" down our street on the way home every night. He puts on a big show.
  18. I think Aidan could hold it all day if he had to not that I would ever want that to happen. One day when I had to work open to close I thought my husband would be home at his normal time around 4pm (we both went to work that morning at 8am) and he thought I was off early that day (12 pm) so went out to have dinner with friends before coming home. I didnt get home till around 9pm and Aidan didn't even seem phased. When I finally let him outside he took his sweet time to even use the bathroom.
  19. From my Aidan to your new Aiden WELCOME!
  20. I don't mind having Aidan in the kitchen while I'm cooking since he never takes anything (even food that falls on the floor) without me handing it to him. He is like a brick wall though! Its hard to move around the kitchen sometimes because he refuses to move and I ended up just pushing him around as I need to get to places such as the sink or the fridge.
  21. I don't have any advise on the topic but I loved the title of this post! No NESTING!
  22. That was my thought too always better safe then sorry. I actually had a friend over this weekend who is a vet tech a few towns away from me and in her opinion it was nothing serious. She just told me to watch it.
  23. When I first got Aidan he marked in the house about 4 different times and I know how frustrating it can be. He would normally do it while we were at work so I would come home to a pile of pee that had already had all day to soak into my hardwood floors and warp the wood! After I got a band I think I only used it once. He hasn't marked anything in the house since the first few weeks we've had him. I think eventually your foster will learn that marking is for outside not inside! Also make sure you clean any spot where there has been marking really well! I purchased a belly band through my adoption group but I'm pretty sure you can make one that is just as good. The one I have just attaches with velcro but I bet you could make one with snaps or something stronger for a dog that wont keep it on. Aidan is sulking now because I made him model is "pee-pee band" for all the internet to see! I would just line it with a large maxi pad so you don't have to wash the band every time it gets soiled.
