  1. I would be interested in this as well! I know a few people here use the clicker trainer method.
  2. I can tell you by experience this works great! Had the same problem with my grey when we first got him. He would go to bed around 10:30 when we would but would be up at 5am which is to early for my liking. After awhile he started to learn that the sound of the alarm means it is time to get up so on weekends when we don't set it at all he wont get out of his bed till we are ready
  3. A few months ago I was petting Aidan and I noticed a few small lumps on his side. When I went to check them out they look just like little skin tags. They don't seem to bother him at all and haven't really grown in size. Within the past few days I have noticed some more on the same side as the ones I noticed a month ago. They are very tiny and dont seem to bother him at all when I touch and mess with them. The few I had noticed in the past have not actually gotten any larger but have changed there look a bit and one actually fell off, kinda like a scab. I have to board him in a few weeks when my husband and I go on vacation so I thought I would just have my vet look at them then for peace of mind. Does anyone else have any experience with greys and similar skin tags?
  4. I would second the Biotene. I used it through my chemo and I thought it worked great! Dont really think it would be approved for dogs though.
  5. I think my Aidan would walk all day if I let him. I feel bad on mornings like today where it is raining cats and dogs and its just to bad out to take him. I don't even want to move from the couch because every time I get up to do anything he does too thinking I've finally decided to take him for his morning walk.
  6. I'm so glad I found this topic! Since we adopted Aidan in April he has had runny poops. After getting his worms taken care of and switching from one expensive food to another he was still having problems. To be honest I was a little hesitate on buying the Iams because "OMG they sell it at the common grocery store!" and it wasn't the high class pet store food I had been brainwashed into thinking was obviously more superior. As we were in store picking up one of the "green bag" I looked at my husband and asked him if I was a bad person for buying me dog such "low quality" food! BUT..............Aidan has been on the green bag Iams for a week now and his stools are so much better then they were and he likes the food! (I think he would eat anything though) This just goes to show how much the media and dog food commercials can get into our heads sometimes. I will continue to feed Iams and do as another posted suggested and maybe mix in a little canned food for variety.
  7. Similar thing happened to my dog about a month after we got him. He was just walking around in the yard and when he came in I noticed he was limping. He becomes aggressive when hes hurt so trying to ice it or touch it at all was out of the question. After getting some anti-inflammatory and pain meds from the vet he was back to normal in about a week. I think he just rolled his ankle or twisted it somewhere out in the yard.
  8. I work at a vet hospital and we prescribe Fortiflora a lot and I've seen it do great things! I actually had a similar thing happen to me with my grey as well. He had some runny stools so after taking a sample I found out he had colitits (he loves to eat other animals poop! ewww!) so during treatment I started giving him a packet of Fortiflora on his evening meal and not only did it help clear up the runny stools but I felt his coat was softer and shinny. Another benefit to that probiotic power is it helped with his horrible gas! His farts can clear a room!
  9. I LOVED the flirt pole idea! As soon as I saw that I went a scavenged in the garage for parts to make one. Found a old mop handle and some tie down rope and the final touch the sacrifice of a stuffed squirrel from my collection. When it gets cooler out I will report back on my success or failure lol Reading this schedule makes me feel so much better! Thank you for taking the time to post it. I actually think something similar would be a good thing to include in new adoption packets so people are not caught off guard by there laziness. Are zoomies refering to the random acts of OH MY GOSH I HAVE TO RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES LIKE A CRAZY DOG! ? Just curious
  10. Thanks guys for the responses so far!. I almost felt stupid for asking but I know I have a bad habit of putting human feelings onto my pets such as boredom! He does seem happy over all except he has the constant greyhound sad face as my husband says. I sometimes wonder if my neighbors think I beat him or that hes miserable because he always has that look.
  11. Greetings all! I'm a long time stalker of these forums but a first time poster. I know this question has been asked before but I just thought I would get some perspective from other grey owners. We adopted our 5 year old Aidan back in April. He is slowly coming out of his shell as time goes by but the biggest concern I have (I know this sounds stupid) is that he is bored. The only thing he seems to ever be interested in is our morning and nightly walks (Which he LOVES), but I can't walk him all day. Especially during the past few weeks it has been decently hot and humid outside so not great weather for walking a grey. As soon as we come back from morning walks he will settle into his bed and take a nap. We don't walk again till evening so I feel during the day he is more like a piece of furniture then a dog. He has no interest at all in toys (so play sessions dont work) but he does like treats. He often follows me from room to room as I clean house with no motivation other then keeping an eye on me I guess. We have a large fenced back yard but he never seems to want to stay out there long or when he does he still just lays in the middle of the lawn. Overall he is a health grey I just want him to be happy in our home. Is this normal grey behavior? What are your guys pups daily routines like? Since I only work part time I am home with him often and wish there was something more I could do for him.
