  1. What a cutie pie! Such an innocent face. Welcome Luna :-)
  2. Sending healing thoughts for your Trooper.
  3. Thanks all. I used olive oil and a flea comb followed by baby wipes. Did the trick! :-)
  4. All good suggestions - and greatly appreciated! Thanks
  5. Any suggestions as to the best way to remove tree sap from doggy fur? My boy is a sticky mess - I even had a difficult time getting the stuff off of my own hands. I recall using baby oil once to remove tar that got on my feet at the beach, but wonder if it is safe to use on dogs.
  6. My two love yummy chummies and haven't had any problems poo-wise. They usually get 3 or 4 a day. We have stocked up on them because Costco doesn't carry them year round.
  7. I wonder if you would have better luck putting them on once you are out and on your walk, then just keep moving so he doesn't have the opportunity to get it off. Maybe he will forget it's there. My boy was using a therapaw before we had his corn hulled and we would put it on him and get him into the car and he would remove it while in the car ... so we started putting it on before letting him out of the car and that did the trick.
  8. How frustrating and frightening this whole ordeal must have been for you! I am so glad that Big D is doing well and seems happy as can be.
  9. Keeping you and Ruger in my thoughts - hoping for the best outcome and a speedy recovery.
  10. Not spoiling at all, it is good for their gut. I have a yogurt maker, and I love that I can make my own with organic milk. The dogs always get some too, but usually only a couple of tablespoons.
  11. When I have to give pills to my two, I use one the following methods: - shove it into a 1" slice of hot dog - wrap it in a coldcut - make a ball of cream cheese and insert I throw their salmon oil pills into their food bowl - they never seem to notice them there, or maybe they like the taste of those.
  12. What a beautiful and loving tribute to your boy. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
  13. Thanks - I would hate for that to be the case, or for him to have developed an infection due to the recent expression. I'll see about getting him in.
  14. My male grey, Elliott, has been licking his bum non-stop (mostly in the mornings, but at other times off and onn) for the last week or so. He was at the vet's a couple of weeks ago to have a corn removed, and when he was there, we had his anal glands expressed. His poos look normal and he doesn't have fleas. He's not just licking his anus, rather all around his rear end. He usually licks the most in the morning before his first walk. He refuses to go out in our yard with our girl after breakfast to take care of business, and will wait until he gets a walk at around 9:30 AM. He would always rather do his business on walks (he gets three a day)and only uses the yard as a last resort. So I wonder if he may be licking because he needs to eliminate, but is holding it waiting for a walk. Is this something you think I should get him to the vet for, or just wait another week or so? Any opinions as to why he is doing it?
  15. Kim, my heart is breaking for your loss. You made the bravest and most difficult decision - take comfort in knowing that you released Nube to go to a place where he will be free of pain.
  16. Those are some freaky looking treats! All the things houndies love, though.
  17. That looks really uncomfortable - poor thing. Do you know why they used staples and not stitches? Just curious.
  18. Kim, I can't even imagine how difficult this must be for you. I am hoping you have more time with your Nube. Sending caring thoughts your way ...
  19. I have a male and a female - our boy has never had an accident or marked in the house. He also almost always eliminates in the same corner of the back yard. He does; however, like to mark trees and bushes while we are on walks. Until recently, it never occurred to me to train him not to do that, but someone from our adoption group told me you can.
  20. I can't comment on the dehydration - just wanted to say how sorry I am for your sudden loss.
  21. On a side note, virgin coconut oil is one of the best oils to cook with for humans, as it has a high burn point and can be used to cook at temps up to 500 degrees, without oxidizing. I have found the best prices at Vitacost.com. It is solid at room temp, melts when heated. It doesn't have to be refridgerated, has a really long shelf life and doesn't impart any strong flavors to what you are cooking. I had never thought to give some to my hounds - they both get fish oil, but now I am considering rotating the fish oil with coconut oil. Those who brush with coconut oil - do you also brush with vet tooth gel, or just with coconut oil? I am going to try this - I think mine will love it, and maybe brushing will be a little easier. For those who give fish oil, Vitacost.com has a great price on salmon oil oil gel caps.
  22. My pretty Lea, is black on one side of her face and white on the other - she always has some sort of "schmutziness" on the white side. I've read it has to do with their saliva and yeast. I've tried a solution of 2 parts water, 1 part peroxide and enough baking soda to form a paste rubbed gently on the area then rinsed off - it works somewhat, but the schmutz comes back a few hours later. I have read that this stuff called angel eyes helps, but it has to be ingested and I don't know what is in it. The most effective solution I have found is to gently wipe the side of her mouth with a warm washcloth, then use a flea comb to remove the debris, then wipe again with the washcloth. Even this doesn't last more than a day, though. I hope someone posts the permanent solution :-)
  23. Reading this thread made me cry because I know it is inevitable that some day I will lose my two and face the same thing. Sending you and your girl loving thoughts.
  24. Checking in on Nube. As long as I wrap pills in coldcuts, or shove them into a hunk of hotdog or cream cheese, both of mine scarf them down without much chewing. Glad to hear the vet visit went well.
