    Genie's Gone

Neena, your attitude is a striking tribute to your wonderful girl Genie. To leave on her own terms, in her own bed, living her life 'til the very end. A fitting end to a well-lived life. May your loving memories of your girl comfort you and keep her ever near you in your hearts. --Lucy
  3. Poor sweetheart. It is so hard when they are obviously in pain. I hope that your vet will soon be able to resolve whatever is going on with your boy.
  4. Congratulation! That is wonderful news.
  5. Thinking of your and Merlin, wishing you both well, and checking for news. --Lucy and Piper
  6. Oh goodness, poor Wallace. Fingers and toes crossed that the vet visit will be helpful to that poor uncomfortable boy. --Lucy
  7. I apologize, but I don't know what meds your Lucky is taking. Perhaps Phenobarbital or valium? If so, you will want to work out a tapering dose with your vet rather than go cold turkey. The cold turkey approach can sometimes trigger seizures. Also, while you may well find that Lucky's seizures were indeed related to diet and medication reaction, there is the possibility that now that Lucky's brain has essentially "learned" how to have a seizure, it may continue to do so even in the absence of Flagyll and other original triggers. I don't mean that to be a discouraging comment at all, just a mention so that if it happens you will not be shocked or unduly frightened. With some dogs, an exposure to something that triggers seizures seems to lastingly lower the brain's seizure threshold, making the dog more vulnerable to seizures than he/she before the exposure to the original trigger. Best wishes to you and Lucky in trying to get off the anti-epileptic medications. Keep us posted, will you? --Lucy
  8. No answers from me, of course, but more anecdotal evidence. Piper had several episodes of head tremors much like that in the first couple of years of retirement. He would have been 2-3 years old. He also has epilepsy, with full blown grand mal seizures and has also had some episodes of focal seizures as well. His head tremors last a few seconds and I can stop them by getting his attention in any way, even by just calling his name. He does not seem distressed either during or after the tremor episodes. Because of his epilepsy, the vet and I have always believed the tremors to be yeat another manifestation of his underlying epilepsy. FWIW, he is also taking Soloxin for low thyroid. I have not seen any tremors in the last 3-4 years. --Lucy
  9. Sending lots of healing prayers for your Shirley. What a cutie she is! She reminds me of BevD's beloved Sprout. Hugs to you and your worried family.
  10. Seizures come in an almost endless variety of "flavors", so indeed that could have been a seizure. I also wondered about a stroke because of the comment that she could only move to the right. In balance my guess would be a seizure, in part because of the fairly rapid recovery. IMO, you will want to take your venerable old lady to the vet for a thorough checkup. While anything is possible, it is more probable that a first seizure at age 15 ( ) is not epilepsy but is a seizure secondary to something else going on with her physically. My wonderful mini dachshund began to have seizures at age 15 1/2. It turned out that she had tumors growing in her lungs and the seizures seemed to be related to sometimes low oxygen levels when she was sleeping. I lost her at age 17 to the lung cancer. She had 5-6 seizures during those last 17 months, recovering from each in about 30 minutes. Her underling cause was not realistically treatable at her age, but your girl may well have treatable condition. Best wishes to you and your girl, Lucy
  11. Don't apologize for posting a "downer". We all just wish with our whole hearts that we could actually do something to make it better for Bonnie. In the end, all we can do is send you and Bonnie our love and our prayers.
  12. Sending prayers and good thoughts for the handsome Wallace and his loving humans. --Lucy
  13. I have experienced the same thing with Piper at each bath. I had heard that tepid water might help but it seems to make no difference with Piper. The moment the water hits him, even if it is just shy of being stone cold, his legs turn to noodles and I help him lie down in the tub. He is fine afterward.
  14. That's great news! Home safe and sound with clean teefers.
  15. Sending best wishes to both of you. A dental is in Piper's immediate future and I'm not looking forward to it.
  16. I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful, beloved boy.
  17. That's still a pretty good "run" for Henry. Congratulations!
  18. I'm not sure about greyhound knowledge since I had no greys when I used them but there is a husband and wife vet partnership in Summerville that you might want to check with. I can't remember the name of the practice off the top of my head but I can get it from old records at home tonight. If you want to look today, I think you can find them under boarding kennels. They have a great ABK approved kennel with their practice and I think they are still one of the few ABK Assn kennels in the state.
  19. Judy & Mike, sad as blindness is, I join so many other in rejoicing with you that Emmy does not have a life-threatening diagnosis! If any family can help her adjust to her loss and live a full and happy life, it will be you guys and your wonderful family and pack of houds.
  20. Oh Judy, how unnerving. You and Emmy are in my thoughts and prayers.
  21. What a night for you all and Mama Snickers! Congratulations on the babies and special prayers for little girl #2. Hang in there sweetheart. You have lots of people rooting for you and loving you already.
  22. Jeremy, I wonder if the darkening you are seeing is the beginning of bruising. When they do my Piper' blood draws sometimes the delicate boy bruises. If that's the case it is nothing to worry about. Best of luck with your poor Pirate's health. Lucy & epi Piper (12 weeks seizure free)
