  1. I know I wouldn't like to be making 2 meals each time unless there was a medical issue. Wouldn't he eventually get hungry enough and eat?
  2. So sorry. Hugs to you and your boy.
  3. Wow, how scary for you. No advice..........just sending hugs and get well wishes.
  4. For some reason I can't see the picture so no advice here except to say that is not a good idea to clean wounds with peroxide. Warm soapy water or Hibiclens work great. Hope it heals quickly.
  5. I am so sorry. Did this just come on suddenly ?
  6. She is now on the 1/2 kibble 1/2 rice diet and things are looking much better. No more Bully Sticks for my girl.
  7. The other bully sticks I bought are the 6" ones and I think it will be a while before I try them again. She has had no issues this afternoon but has not pooped again either. The one I gave her was a small one twisted around a plain sterilized bone. She was chewing for hours and her teeth look great. I wish I could just leave her alone and let her enjoy her regular food but I always feel like she deserves a treat now and then. I haven't found any biscuits that settle very well so I have been giving her a Kong stuffed with goodies (which she refuses to chew on) and an occasional chunk of chicken. I do remember when I had her at the kennel a year ago they gave her hamburger and she has diarrhea for days. Could be she is allergic to beef.
  8. Yesterday morning I gave Ruby a small bone with a short bully stick wrapped around it that I had ordered from the company I hear so much about here. You would have thought that girl won the lottery. She took it, layed down and sniffed it, threw it into the air, did 5 laps around the yard, threw it again and then layed down in a shady spot to devour it. I went about my business and a couple hours later found that the bully stick was devoured and the bone part was laying in her bed. All was well and she ate her dinner last night. This morning at 4:45 she started whining a bit. I told her to go back to sleep. A half hour later, more whining. I got up to let her out and off she ran to the poop spot. She did not want to come back in so I watched her from the bedroom window have 2 piles of diarrhea. I was going to not feed her this morning but DH got up and before I could tell him, he fed her and she ate well. So now I am concerned about all the bully sticks I ordered for her. Would you continue to let her have them ? There were no other changes in her diet yesterday and no other treats. Thanks !
  9. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this difficult decision. Hugs to you and your pup.
  10. I have no advice but wanted to let you know that I am praying for Avril. Hugs and good wishes to you.
  11. I have tried it a couple other times and she just isn't interested. She is curious enough to carry it to her bed, but there it stays until I clean it out. I am done. I have put it in my donation box for the local shelter. Ugh........no more picking stuff out of it. Will try to find some other ideas to entertain her. I have one of those cubes too but she just sniffs it and lays beside it. She really IS retired !
  12. I keep hearing about dried yams as treats and also read that someone here was making their own. How do you do it? Do you cook them first? Bake them ? Boil them? season them at all? Do you dry them until they are pliable or crunchy ? Do you do other veggies too ?
  13. So sorry to read this. You are absolutely added to my prayer list.
  14. Thanks for the great ideas. I have a feeling that Ruby is one of the ones who is not going to like the Kong. She is NOT food motivated at all. I was just hoping to find something to help entertain her while we are away. Will try a few of your suggestions and am counting my blessings that we have a dishwasher.
  15. Wow. You have been through so much lately. I am praying that your world calms down soon and the pups all get healthy.
  16. I know this is a stupid question but here goes. After reading about Kongs all the time and how all of you stuff them with treats, freeze them and they entertain your dogs, I decided I had to get one for Ruby. So I bought the thing and filled it full of kibble and a couple of tiny pieces of her favorite duck jerky, sealed the ends with peanut butter, froze it and gave it to her yesterday when I left for work. She should have been hungry since she hasn't been eating her morning meal the last week. When I got home, there was the still stuffed Kong totally full. Then I had to bring it in the house and figure out how to clean the darn thing. I ended up having to dig the stuff out of it, soak it and digging some more. I bought the big one. So what did I do wrong? How do you clean them and how in the world are the dogs able to get anything out of them? Ruby isn't a big chewer but she does like Bully sticks, chicken feet, etc...
  17. I have tried the DAP diffuser and collar along with Rescue Remedy and several others. As for her feeding off my anxiety, quite possible. I want her to be comfortable and content and I know she isn't. When she is anxious she pants, drools, shakes, paces and spins. Occasionally she will put herself in her crate and stand in it and do all the things I mentioned except pace. When she is having the SA she pants, drools, howls and shakes. She does like to be outside and that does help with the SA when I have to be gone. It is more of a problem in the Winter when I leave her indoors. Our home is fairly quiet and calm. Just my husband and I. Occasionally we have the grandkids over but Ruby LOVES them and she seems very excited when she see's them. I was told she was raised around some children so is very used to them. She falls right to sleep when my grandson lays on her bed with her to "watch a movie with my Woobie". She gets daily walks, we play catch everyday, work on training, and she gets plenty of love and attention. Like I said earlier, if I could just sit right beside her every second of every day, there were no loud noises EVER that come from outside (she doesn't seem to notice if we drop a pan or make noise in the house) she would be one very happy girl. Unfortunately, we do have to work to buy her biscuits.
  18. I don't know if my group does fostering or not, and yes, I have contacted them about the problem. They suggested a behaviorist. I do know that vets and trainers are NOT animal behaviorists. I did call and talk to one but she wanted $800 to get started. That is not in the budget and probably won't be anytime soon. I have not tried any combos of medications and it may come to that. I don't want her drugged. I want her calm and able to enjoy her environment. What I wish I could do is retire and sit here with her all day. That would make us both happy
  19. If I knew she could go somewhere and be happier, I would do what is best for her. What she needs is no loud noises and to never ever ever be left alone for a second. I don't think that is reality. I know that no family could love her more than we do. I have talked with 2 of the vets we have taken her to and have asked if adding another one to the family would help and both said they didn't think so. If I knew it would help, I would do it. I would hate to have 2 of them with SA though. I don't think my heart could take it.
  20. If you had read my first post, I have tried Colmicalm and Prozac with Ruby with zero results. Just trying to find something that will calm her down and at this point, will try pretty much anything as she is suffering. We tried a trainer, 3 different vets, etc......and yes, a conditioning program. I am about to the point as CaliforniaGreys, and that is to say that nothing will work for her. That breaks my heart though to watch her anxiety rule her life. It must be miserable. I got Valium today from the vet so will try that when needed.
  21. I just gave Ruby 50 mg of Acepromazine and am praying it knocks her out. I have given her 1 1/2 of the 25mgs before with no relief. Hard to believe 1/4 of a 25 mg works for your pups. You are lucky ! She has been pacing all afternoon and I have been feeding her the OTC calming chewies but they don't do a thing for her. If she would just close her eyes and sleep through the night I would be so happy....and so would she. Going to see if I can get some Valium tomorrow for her.
  22. Prozac is scary stuff. I am DREADING tonight and just wish it would go away so that the pups can all enjoy the peace and quiet they deserve.
  23. Prozac !!! That's the other one I tried. It made her even crazier. Valium sounds like a good one to try. Will give them a call in the morning and see if we can get some for her.
