  1. So now that we are kicking off the summer season--Do any of you use suntan lotion on your kids? Is there a doggy lotion for this or do you use people lotion?
  2. As always, glad to know it's not something unique to Rocket. We've recently switched foods and I thought maybe he was hungry because the gurgling usually stops after he eats. But we have also been having the early morning grass nibble. . . .
  3. Woohoo! We've been anxiously awaiting word. Glad to hear it was good news!
  4. You are still in our thoughts and we're hoping for good news. . . .
  5. Fingers, toes and paws crossed for good results.
  6. I'm so sorry to hear that Polli is gone. She's one of the dogs I remember from my first few days on GT. She was a beautiful dog.
  7. Poor Rocket. Traumatic day. We've had storms and wind so not an ideal day to get him to pee anyway. Then, poor boy, just when he squatted to unload this afternoon, here comes mom with the foil pan. Scared the heck out of him. When we got to the vet he found a rock and we got a very generous fresh sample in a plastic tub. The vet says that he looks good--temp is fine, urine is clear and no indication that he's not hydrated enough. While we were there, he got his nails trimmed, some blood drawn, a shot and another up his snoot. He was such a good boy--didn't even flinch. An evening appointment meant he was up past his bedtime so he's snoozing now. We'll keep an eye on him and hope he's just reacting to the weather. -- As we were going in at the vet, another grey (Zephyr) was coming out making for a wagfest--hopefully it made up for some of the angst. Thanks everyone for the feedback and good wishes. This forum has been such a lifesaver!
  8. We're new parents and Rocket's been a little off the last couple days so thought I'd post here (everything I can think of to search is 3 letters--"pee" "not" -- which doesn't work). The last few mornings when he gets up he poops but doesn't pee until much later in the morning. He used to pee gallons at a time. Now we'll go out several times without him doing anything. Poops are initially firm--with soft followup blobs. Has been eating grass the last couple of days. A few days ago he had a very gurgly stomach but that has been normal lately. He's been panting and pacing off and on yesterday and today. But still loves being out for a walk and seems fine though he's marking more than peeing. Just seems sluggish. His appetite is normal but he doesn't seem to be drinking as much water. No changes to his diet, though we switched to Grizzly Salmon oil from Costco salmon oil about two weeks ago (which has made a huge difference in shedding). We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow night for some shots. Should we try to get in earlier? Are these symptoms of UTI? Or ?? Will the vet need a urine sample and how do you collect one? Thanks!
  9. I'm glad to know we're not the only ones with this problem. Rocket gets his salmon oil every day, and brushed, and humidified, but now we've got the white flakies going on. I've been using a little vitamin E oil (rubbed first on my hands and then on his belly) but it's not quite cutting it. When he first arrived, Rocket's coat was so soft. It keeps getting coarser as it dries out. Hopefully one of these sprays will help that too.
  10. I'm so sorry. I always loved pictures of her.
  11. Good points. He's fit in so well, that I forget that he may still be nervous. We love watching him outside--everything is a new experience and he would stand and stare for hours if we let him. But all of those new things could well make him anxious too. The fencing people finished up an area for him this afternoon and hopefully that will make him less distracted (and quicker to his business). Mahomet is about 10 miles west of Champaign (IL)--pretty much right in the middle of the state.
  12. Rocket has a runny nose. Not just when we are out in the cold, or when we come in. It's, like, dripping. Otherwise he seems to be fine--good appetite, good poos and pees, no breathing issues. We're going to the vet on Saturday for his initial checkup, but thought I'd check with all the experts here.
  13. Let's try that photo link thing again. Here is pooped puppy (which looks a lot like he does at this exact moment). With the ice storm outside, I think we all wish we could curl up with some blankies. (The original picture shows up when I log in but not from other computers. Learning. . . . )
  14. DH and I are totally addicted to GreyTalk. He sits on his laptop on one couch, and I on the other, and we compare threads and what is making us laugh like loonies. Thank you so much for this resource!
  15. Thanks! When are the M&G events at Lincoln Square? I've heard about them but don't know the schedule. We'd love to get plugged into the local community. On Saturday we are headed to Indy to meet some of their new dogs. They are all cute as buttons and I suspect one of them has our name on it. Do you use a vet here in town? I haven't posted here often enough to be able to send you email but hope to meet up with you.
  16. From the time I posted and went back to bed, Cookie's gone "adoption pending" so it looks like she's already found a home. Glad for the advice about pouring coffee though! Thanks everyone.
  17. One of the dogs that we are looking at on an adoption side has been blind in her left eye since birth. She had a great track career though. Are there any special considerations or concerns we should have with a partially blind dog? Thanks!
  18. Hi, everyone. My husband and I are hoping to adopt our own grey soon. Is anyone on the list in the Mahomet/Champaign/Urbana, Illinois area? We drove over to Indy today to visit some dogs at the Meet & Greet at the Christmas Craft Show and put in an application with them. We're looking to see if there are any active grey friends in our area though. Thanks much! Chris
