  1. My really good friend had to let her grey, Anubis (Nubee), go today. He was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about a month ago. This weekend he took a turn for the worse and she and her husband made the decision to let him be pain free. I am heart broken. He was such a sweet dog. He was like one of my own.

Run free Nubee. Rusty and Solo and the others are waiting for you.

  2. Stella has Cushings. Have the vet do a ACTH stim test...Stella presented with all the typical symptoms but none of the initial testing/xrays/ultrasounds pointed to Cushings. I wish I'd have pushed them to do the dang stim test in the beginning. Here's her thread of the whole ordeal

Her Cushings is now well managed with weekly lysodren...it's not cheap, nor is the testing we have to do every couple months to make sure her levels are good. It's about $40/m for the lysodren (a lot of that will depend on dosage) and $120 or so for the stim test.

    Her symptoms were:

Significant weight loss, muscle wasting. She's down to 54 lbs :(

    Excessive drinking

Excessive peeing (can't go more than 3 hours)

Appetite waxes and wanes, generally OK

Coat looks like crap, rough, dull, dry, brittle, even the color has changed.

Hair loss along the limbs, butt, belly, ears

    Lethargy, depression, general "doing poorly"

Skin seems very thin, fragile and almost transparent, esp on the legs

I just saw them on Sunday and her dog for sure has the first three symptoms. They have him in a belly band now. He is very skinny. I don't know about his appetite. I think that is pretty good. He's a major counter surfer. I have noticed his coat looks real dull. I'll have to check out his skin the next time I see them.

I'm not sure if they have him on any meds or not, but he's not really the same dog as he was when they got him a few years ago.
