Trust me, sometimes even a couple years later you go 'is that my dog?' My male had zero prey drive, but he took a dislike to ferrets! My b/f had one a couple years ago and even with a muzzle on, he would try to slam his head into the ferret...but then again, the ferret used to burrow underneath his dog bed. Sometimes it's best to be cautious, but you don't want to be anxious and have your pup pick up on that. Just try to think ahead when walking and possibly keep her muzzle with you so you can slip it on before she meets new dogs...that way she'll get the hint that she's not supposed to do that and other dogs will be safer (she can still get their ear, etc, just not a full on bite). I've taken muzzles with me when walking fosters that I was unsure of how they'd react to other dogs.

Ugh...so sad we've already lost some angels...

Get him checked to rule out any medical issues. After that, it may be a matter of training as he may be doing it due to the other dog doing it...Did you use Nature's Miracle or some other enzyme cleaner to get rid of the smell after the accidents? You may have to keep him on a leash near you so that you can correct him until you get past this stage.

Thanks everyone...Pop was loved by myself, his dad, his sisters, his grandparents and just about everyone who came into contact with him. He was one of those that had such an awesome personality and could make just about anyone love a greyhound. He was the perfect first greyhound, even if he did purposely push my buttons and test the boundaries/rules (sometimes multiple times in a day)... I know Pop will watch over myself and his dad...he'll probably be pretty busy jet-setting between the 2 of us He'll be glad when we see each other so he can rest for a little bit.

Funny you say that...during the reading, I mentioned how I had focused more on Navy guy leaving rather than Pop passing as I knew it'd make it easier. Pop said that's what he wanted, was for me to focus on Navy guy and not so much on him and then he goes 'but you guys didn't leave me out, you made sure to include me.' And we did...lots of time spent cuddling and kissing the pups...and they got lots of yummy treats and beer. One morning after I left for work Navy guy gave them each a rawhide...later he said 'is that ok?' and I said 'yeah, as long as they were finished with them before you left.'

It's weird, looking at the bed he always laid on and just seeing an indent and no Pop.

Thanks...he told the pet psychic he was trying to go while his Dad was still here (before he shipped out)...and I did think this past Sunday that it was his time, but then he rallied. He took a turn for the worse yesterday and the vet even said he was ready to go.

My big brindle goofball is now at Rainbow Bridge...it is so weird to come home and not have 2 pups looking at me. When the adoption group brought 3 pups to the house for the home visit, the brindle boy was a little standoffish...and I was warned that he got car sick. Well, he worked out of the carsickness..that was nerves about being left behind...once he bonded to me he was fine. Heck, he even made the trip from Lansing to Pensacola 3 times! Pop (and his sister Zelda) were initially adopted with my ex b/f...when I moved to Lansing the pups came with...he wasn't a fan of apartment living with all the hardwood floors, but we made it work for a couple of years until the pups got their house in June 2011. I love him to pieces and I know that he'll watch over us...and he'll be able to visit his Dad (Navy Guy) on the ship. I was able to squeeze in an appointment with a pet psychic this morning and Pop truly loves his Dad...and Pop said that he was ready to go. And true to Pop's personality, he had 'a talk' with his Dad before he shipped out... Pop the same week that he was adopted with his old Christmas stocking Pop & Zelda 5 years ago shortly after Zelda was adopted...he was being the good big brother and protecting her at the grandparents house. Proud of himself for de-stuffing a toy Pop as a reindeer a couple of Christmases ago A pic of Pop and his Dad a couple years ago...one of my favorites of them And a picture from this Sunday...he's on my right

I'm so sorry for your loss. And thank you for giving him such a greyt home in his final years.

He's on Gabapentin and Tramadol...I've upped his doses after talking to a vet who has greyhounds. I'm going to contact his vet tomorrow and see if they'll give him rimadyl instead of the tramadol as that's what the greyhound vet suggested... They started him on one gabapentin a day, but I'm now giving him one twice a day...and they had him on 2 pills of tramadol (3x/day), but I'm up to 3 pills (3x/day)...the panting could have been pain related as he kept walking around the house this afternoon, it could have been a stuck pill, he could have gotten his treat stuck in his throat, I don't know...all I know is he is resting peacefully now.

Thanks everyone, he is calm for now...I'm only half heartedly checking in on GT as I'm too busy watching him and making sure he's ok...good thing I have the next 3 days off

Ok, so Pop was diagnosed with osteo on Feb 4th...his limp has gotten worse, even with me upping the pain meds...to the point that he only walks on that paw if need be. I just gave him his afternoon dose of pills and now he is panting and keeps going for water...he did have some treats prior to that, but he's had those before (a couple of weeks ago)... Is this the osteo progressing or a reaction to the meds or the treats? The treats are some salmon treats made in Alaska... ETA, he can't possibly be warm with his tummy warmer on as the house is only set at 66 right now...

I'd push the vet to take a closer look at it. You are Diana's mom, you know her...trust your gut

I haven't read all the replies, but I will say that both of mine are cat safe...both are left unmuzzled with the cat during the day. Now, when I have a foster, the foster and Zelda are muzzled...Pop, well he eats dog poo so it's easier to leave him unmuzzled.

Pop has always been like this...but he was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus too. Zelda is more heat tolerant, but she still acts like she is melting at 80 - 85...but give her -5 degrees with a jacket on and she thinks it's PLAYTIME!

Vision problems, no...but I do think he is starting to go senile When he was playing around at 1:30 this morning I verbally encouraged him and he came in and ran past me with this look of 'I hate you mom, you're supposed to open the door.' He only whined a couple minutes this morning before coming back in to work on his breakfast.

I think he did injure his leg recently because of his penchant for 'swinging' his hind end through the dog door when he goes through (he has never walked through it normally). I tried actually getting him to go through slowly the other night one leg at a time and almost got whopped right in the head by his hind end. I'll just have to watch him to see what is going on. Tonight he was extremely vocal...although this seemed to start, now that I think about it, not too long after we got back from my parents house and I opened the door (being nice) to let him in. Unfortunately there is no way to lower the dog door and I don't think a small ramp would be all that safe for them, but it may be worth a try...a small ramp outside the dog door leading down onto the deck that is.
