I just saw this, but I'm so glad the X-Rays were clean. I hope Sam milks this for all the cookies it's worth.

Apparently she's an animal communicator, too. She "asked" Diamond when she needed to come back. (Supposedly Diamond said six days, which would be tomorrow). I would've completely dismissed her as a nutjob had she not been recommended by a vet I trust. She's also a DVM, so I expected some degree of rationality.

No, no limp at all. Most of the time, the screams are when she's laying down and trying to either stand up or roll over/shift positions. We also hear them sometimes if Gabe happens to bump into her when they're walking next to each other, although she'll let us touch her all over and usually doesn't show any pain there. Sometimes she'll let us/the vet move her head through the full range of motion and sometimes she won't, which is what initially lead us to believe it's her neck.

My sweet girl has been in pain, on and off again, for over a month now (background hereand here). It's getting worse, and I'm not sure what to do anymore. Here's what we've tried: 1) Rhymadil and steroid shots - The first round worked for a week or so. Second round didn't work at all. 2) Lots of rest and leash walks, in case it was a muscle injury that needed to heal 3) X-Rays - Absolutely clear and perfect. No indications of cancer, no problems with her joints, no signs of a slipped disc. We had a second vet look at them as well to make sure the first hadn't missed anything. 4) Visited a "holistic" vet recommended by my regular vet. She waved her hands over Diamond, apparently "cleansed her ions," and gave me some supplements to give her (Traumeel, Ligaplex and Cardio-plus). I'm very skeptical of the whole thing and since visiting her, Diamond has gotten worse, not better. The occasional yelps have turned into much more regular screams, and it's just killing me to see her in so much pain. She depends on me to take care of her, and I have NO answers - no idea what's causing it and no idea how to help her. It's heartbreaking. The holistic vet said she'd expected to do acupuncture but that Diamond wasn't "asking" for it. Should I find another vet who will do acupuncture/chiropractics? Should I see another "regular" vet? What would you do?

This made me sob. I'm so sorry for your loss.

We're going through this right now with Diamond. Rhymadil and steroid shots didn't help. She had clear, perfect X-Rays, though, so our vet has ruled out osteo. She's seeing a holistic vet on Wednesday to get a second opinion on the X-Rays and to see if acupuncture would help.

This clearly isn't a good week for Diamonds! Glad to see she's feeling better. Hope the limp goes away soon.

Thank you! Where can I get the gel? It seems to be somewhere in her neck. She won't move through the full range of motion - up and down or side to side.

The Good News: Nothing showed up on the X-Rays The Bad News: We still don't know what's causing her pain. The vet said he'd been very worried it was cancer, but they did four x-rays, showing her head, neck, legs and most of her chest, and there's NO sign of cancer. Her joints also looked great. The most likely scenario is that she's pulled a muscle, which she keeps re-injuring. We have tried to keep the zoomies to a minimum, but you all know how hard that is! I may have to limit her to leash walks for a while. He's recommended a holistic vet, so we may look into acupuncture to see if it helps. She's still a big groggy, and it took some coaxing to get her to eat her dinner (shredded cheese makes everything better) but I'm glad she's back home where we can spoil her.

Diamond is in pain again (still?) so we're going in for X-Rays on Monday. Could we have more good thoughts and prayers, please?

Thanks so much for the prayers and good thoughts. She's still yelping occasionally, but I've seen enough improvement that I've decided not to take her in for x-rays just yet. For now, I'm keeping a close eye on her and making sure she rests (not an easy task when she's feeling better and wants to do zoomies!)

After seeing Dr. Chris a few weeks ago, Diamond seemed to be doing better, but she took a HUGE turn for the worse Thursday night and, despite almost two weeks of Rimadyl (to treat what we thought was a pulled muscle), she's now back to yelping every time she stands up or shifts positions. She saw Dr. Chris again on Friday. He gave her a steroid shot that he hoped would help ease her pain through the weekend (doesn't seem to be) and, unless I see a vast improvement, she'll be going in early Monday morning for x-rays. She's normally so bubbly and active. My house seems way too quiet right now.

I agree. I also think that, like having kids, this is an issue that should be worked out before you get married if having animals is important to you. I can (and have) compromised on a lot of things, but if my husband hadn't wanted dogs, that would've been a "deal breaker" for me.

Thank you all so much. I took her to Gentle Care Animal Hospital in Edmond, because they agreed to see her right away. The vet and staff were very, very kind to us. It's almost certainly a problem with her neck. She received a steroid shot and some rhymadil, and we'll reevaluate in a few days. She's asleep next to me now and seems to be feeling a little better (though the hamburger I bought her as a treat might also have something to do with that!)

Can someone please recommend a good greyhound-friendly vet in the Oklahoma City area - preferably in Norman, but Moore, Edmond, Midwest City, etc... are fine? Diamond has been yelping a lot over the past week or so. We've poked and prodded, and she hasn't shown any pain reaction anywhere, but after she randomly yelped, laid down and refused to eat standing up this morning (she did eat, lying down, when I put her bowl on the floor), I have to think it's more than just her being a drama queen. She's not limping (in fact, she did zoomies in the exercise pen just last night), no lumps, bumps or sores that I can find, but she definitely seems to be in pain. Is arthritis a possibility? She's only just turned four, but she did break her hock in August. I don't want to wait until the weekend for her to see her regular (Kansas) vet, so if someone could recommend a good one near Norman I'd be really grateful. Also, lots of good thoughts and prayers for my precious girl, please. I'm worried about her.
