  1. Yeah, I agree, I think this is pretty normal stuff. He's getting comfortable and he's exploring and more importantly, getting rewarded for his exploring. In my place, almost all of my low level cabinets are all baby locked. And most of all of Lima's treats are on top of the fridge. I've just taken the responsibility of knowing that anything that Lima is going to want (aka, food), needs to be out of reach or behind a locked door. I wouldn't be as concerned about things like the cords, phones, stuff like that, because he's probably not going to want them (they don't taste good). He might be getting a little bored too. Lima tends to get more ornery when our walks aren't as long or I haven't been doing anything interesting with her like training or mixing up our walks or even our routine. One of the best things I've found is to work on training with her. Keeps her mind exercised and she's much less likely to get into stuff when she's on her own. If you read up on 'clicker training', you'll find lots of great stuff. It doesn't even really take that much time - 10 minutes a shot seems to be plenty.
  2. Oh no Jan . I'm so so sorry to hear this.
  3. Lima Bean can be a talker. Every now and again, she'll go on a long winded mix of whining, cooing, grunting for like 30 seconds. I swear she's lecturing me on her list of long standing grievances and then gets frustrated at me as I stare at her with an extremely blank, yet amused, look on my face. After this, she almost always walks away in a huff
  4. George, Chris, oh, I was so sorry to hear this. . Kelsey is one of the first dogs Lima and I met on the greyhound walks and she was so awesome. That was a great slideshow George. I got a small thrill seeing those couple of shots with Kelsey and Lima on Crane Beach. I totally remember that day - it was really chilly and Kelsey was prancing around, almost dancing around on the beach. I also remember Lima wanted to join in and Kelsey totally shunned her . I take great comfort in knowing she had a wonderful retirement.
  5. whew. good to hear. sounds like decent news for now, eh? phene! stop scaring your mom
  6. Happy birthday Loca. You were an incredibly special girl and we're missing you greatly, that's for sure.
  7. Sounds like you have things under control, but for future reference, EMT gel works well too.
  8. I have one greyhound and have had her for two and half years. I work full time and am out of the house from around 8am - 6pm. She is totally fine with it.
  9. Welcome from a former Calgarian (who misses it greatly) living in Massachusetts. It's neat to see greyhounds are up there. I never saw one when I was there.
  10. Here in Boston, Walgreens has it.
  11. Oh Robin, my heart sank and my stomach fell when I saw this. I know you've been doing all you could for her and I guess it was time. We'll miss her like crazy. She was very very special. Lima will miss her mentor. I'll be thinking of you and Phene.
  12. Lima Bean and I are sending good thoughts to you and Loca. Lima is looking forward to further advice from Loca on how to get to the good stuff on top of the refrigerator once Loca feels better.
  13. North Shore Greyhound Meetup Group The first couple meetups were supposed to be in Salem. Looks the next one is in Lynn and then in Saugus. I haven't gone yet, but I'm going to try. We'd definitely love to see Dunkin' again!
  14. Hi Dunkin, Emily and Paxton. We remember you guys (GW!) . By the way, did you know someone is trying to starting a greyhound meetup group thing up in Salem? Rally and Lima Bean.

    Linus

here's to you linus, a most awesome cat with a cool ironic name who put up with greyhounds stealing her food with such good nature. and this is for you robin 'cause this sucks.
  17. We are definitely thinking of Loca and you and sending our support! It's good she's at the vet, they'll take good care of her. Rally and Lima.
  18. Congratulations! What a good looking guy. One thing to keep in mind, because he's so fresh off the track, he may be particularly whiny and dependent on you. Right now, everything is a confusing (and potentially scary) blur, and you are the only thing he probably trusts right now. The best thing is to be patient and be consistent so that he can figure out how things work. The more structure the better. And your BF is right, be firm too. You don't want him to become *too* dependent on you too quickly, he needs to build his own self-confidence which can be tougher if he's getting all of his comfort from you. This is a really exciting, challenging, and rewarding time. Enjoy it! And keep us all posted .

    Hershey Bar

Oh, I'm very sorry to hear this. That was a wonderful tribute.
  20. Glad to hear all is well, even better that he's such a great dog! For future reference, I've found that searching this board yields a lot of good info too, especially for figuring out what to do when your dog gets into something he/she shouldn't have gotten into (speaking from personal experience)!
  21. And here are some actual values that you can compare... (from the same site noted above).
  22. Congratulations! He looks great and he looks happy and excited to be in his new home .
  23. How does this look? Getting it to the right height actually shrinks the whole thing a good amount.
