  1. Congratulations and hello! I'm in Cambridge. And yes, there's definitely lots of Boston area people around .
  2. Your story of Penny's last day was beautiful and gave me a lump in my throat. She was really loved. So sorry to hear about this and Lima and I are glad we got to meet her.
  3. Oh wow... that's a really touching description of her last day. She clearly was loved.
  4. The VCA hospital in Wakefield has experience working with greys. I think it's their office manager there who owns several, and they even have one of their examination rooms that is dedicated for greyhounds.
  5. Yep, I would call him and see if you can do that. I know you like him, but if he can't work with you, it might be time to find another vet. Don't feel like a bad mom, everyone's wallet has a bottom to it. I too panicked recently when Penny was having accidents, but was otherwise happy and healthy and bouncy. I went immediately to the vet with a sample. They are the ones that told me to wait a few days and it will resolve itself. Sure enough, it did. That seems like a very reasonable request to me. And I agree, if he is adamant or makes you feel guilty or bad or that you're compromising Quiet Man's health, then it's reasonable to think of going to another vet, especially since a lot of the responses here indicate that taking your own urine sample isn't a terrible thing (my vet is ok with me taking my own sample too). Rally
  6. Too obscure? One of my favourite movies of all time, and one of the best scenes ever!
  7. Lima ate a bunch of 'fancy' soap from Lush a few weeks back. I think she was pooping it out for almost a week. The only downside as I could tell was that it was some WEIRD looking poop
  8. SIGreyLady, that's interesting! I found Sterling (Cold B Tiger) on the Greyhound data web page. His picture's there too. He's beautiful! (I think I have a soft spot for these white dogs with spots ). I can see that Sterling and Lima both have lots of "Coldwater xxxx" in their ancestry, but I couldn't find a single connection. Hard to believe. But maybe there's still one there because there's so many of them with that Coldwater name and that Cold B name. Greg, that picture his hilarious, but let's hope none of the boy greyhounds see that ps... still collar shopping
  9. One girl here. I didn't pick her for gender, she was the first dog I 'met' at an open house and we clicked so I didn't bother meeting any others.
  10. I admire your restraint, very impressive .
  11. Hello and welcome from Boston! I can totally feel your excitement. When I chose my girl, I still had to wait for 2 1/2 weeks before I could adopt her because of a combination of travel and other things. Those 2 1/2 weeks were both amazingly exciting and FRUSTRATING I was lucky, of course all I did was talk about my impending dog adoption, but my friends and co-workers seemed to be as excited as I was. The best part is, after you finally get her, it just keeps getting better! p.s., I'd love to help you out with picking a name, but I've been told that I don't do a good job of that
  12. Hi there from Boston! I just adopted my first this May and it's been the best experience ever. It's too bad you have to wait 'till the spring to adopt though. Have you thought about volunteering for your local adoption group? That'd let you hang out with the dogs. Or, maybe you could foster.
  13. Wow! I'm almost overwhelmed by the welcoming response. I love how this board is so nice . JenniferS, thanks for that link to the photo from KelseysLackey. That really is a stunning photo. Flint, we're busted , I have been quite remiss in purchasing Lima a nice collar (or collars), although, KramersMom has been quite helpful in pointing out good places to look. Gretzky, we'll definitely make sure to say hi on the next greyhound walk if we can figure out who you are (btw, are you a hockey fan?). Yes, I have to admit Lima is quite the pretty girl. That sure comes in handy for her when I come home and discover 15 tupperware containers strewn all over the living room, and the single, unopened can of stewed tomatoes by her pillow . I definitely look forward to talking to everyone on the board and also to seeing the local guys on some of the future group walks. Ok, one more pic...
  14. Hi everyone, I wanted to introduce myself (Rally) and my new grey, Lima (as in Lima Bean). She used to race at the Raynham, MA track as Cold B Hi Fi and I adopted her through Greyhound Welfare. She's my first greyhound, in fact, my first dog of my own. I've had her for about 4 months now and it's been absolutely amazing. We've been to a small number of greyhound events around here so far and it's been a blast meeting all these greyhounds and their clearly devoted owners. I researched the idea of getting a greyhound for over a year, and everyday, I smile at the fact that I made such a good decision to go for it. I've been lurking around Greytalk for a short time now and have been impressed with how helpful and nice people are here. I've also learned the #1 rule about posting here, which is pictures. So without further adieu... "group" picture resting comfortably, a very common pose the why do you keep taking pictures of me pose action photo
  15. Howdy from the other side of the Charles! Lima and I are really glad that George gave you no choice but to adopt him right away. Funny how that happens. I remember when I went to the open house thing and was so excited that there were so many greyhounds to meet, yet, the only one I bothered meeting was the very first one I saw, and she's the one I ended up adopting. We'll see you tomorrow at the Arboretum walk?
