  1. Poor baby, hoping her surgery is quick and smooth.
  2. Patrick takes tramadol, and my vet calls in his refills to target without seeing him. I do a full blood panel yearly with his dental, and that's it (of course unless there's a problem.) She knows I'll be in her office the minute I notice a problem.
  3. I can't answer your question, but I can offer plenty of prayers and good wishes for you both.
  4. Poor baby, give her a gentle kiss from Patrick--the king of foot injuries.
  5. How deep is it? I would have it looked at, if at all possible, because if it does need stitches, the sooner the better.
  6. What a beautiful picture, I'm so sorry.
  7. I'm so sorry. Godspeed Radar.
  8. So nice to read some happy news. Hobbes, enjoy your Thanksgiving sweetie and tell your mom you need some celebratory turkey.
  9. How so? I've heard this before, but I don't understand why. (Not challenging the statement, just curious.) Mary I can't tell you why, but I've observed the same thing. I had to switch Patrick off the generic because my vet's office at the time would occasionally switch the generic (very bad idea for humans or animals), but once he started taking soloxine things were better--it seemed as if the medicine was more consistent maybe? Rudy's symptoms sure do sound like thyroid--hopefully that's what it is because it's very manageable.
  10. These are awful to get to heal--Patrick has 2, 1 was from a cyst removal and was left to heal open, 1 tear that we had stiched. What you want to do is put a bunch of neosporin in there, and gently wrap it with some gauze then vet wrap, top with a baby sock. Try some bitter apple if you need it to keep him from licking. If that doesn't work, I don't know the breed, but is a bite-not collar possible?
  11. Good news about Ember FYI, tramadol can slow the system down a bit, so if you see problems in that area it could be the medicine.
  12. Yep, call your group and maybe someone will have one to lend. Patrick absolutely spazzed with the e-collar. He doesn't like the bite-not collar, but he doesn't freak out with it.
  13. Hope he starts feeling better soon. And no need to apologize for panicking here, we've all been there.
  14. In Patrick, licking is a sign his arthritis is acting up, and I need to add in another medication (deramax added to his usual tramadol). That said, once he's gotten a small wound, he could just be obsessively licking because of that--you might try some bitter apple on top of the bandaging.
  15. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you--their flaxseed oil is much cheaper than most places.
  16. Yep, I'd be off to the vet. But I seriously doubt your wiping his eye caused this--lots of us do that, most likely he already had an infection brewing.
  17. Yes, someone here (I don't remember who) had a dog seriously hurt by a groomer incorrectly expressing the glands. I always have it done at the vet's.
  18. There is a medical condition that causes this, unfortunately I can't remember its name. I know someone else here will know though.
  19. I'm so sorry, my heart aches for you all. I remember how Faith used to stand in her crib and call for Stella, how much the two loved each other.
  20. Yep, Patrick's taken it for 4 years. He needs medicine now (tramadol), but I really think the cosequine helped put it off for several years. He still takes it--our vet says it helps keep his joints from degenerating even further. Patrick currently takes 2 DS capsules a day, one with each meal.
  21. Given the circumstances, I'd be happy he's eating. Personally, when Patrick's hurt if he's eating, I'll take it. We hear a lot about bloat, and it is really scary, but it seems to be relatively uncommon in actuality. Good to be careful, but try not to worry too much either.
  22. I'm sorry about the cancer--what a horrid disease--but I wish you and ember the best. The obsession with what if the dog developes joint problems seems odd. Many, many of our dogs will develope arthritis even if they don't have an amputation done. Joint pain is joint pain, I really doubt the dog cares or understands the cause. And it is treatable, with an excellent quality of life.
  23. benadryl--1mg/lb of body weight (I would calculate it out for your dogs ahead of time for your parents) Buffered Asprin--1 325mg pill for a greyhound
  24. In humans, it means high cholesterol. I don't know if that is actually a problem in a dog though, something to ask the vet about.
  25. Is crating a possibility, just temporarily to keep him calm?
