  1. Mimi is camera shy, so I have not been able to get a picture of her in this STUNNING collar! But I wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you! We adopted Mimi on December 11th of last year, so she did not have a Christmas collar. Mimosa had gotten nancyb's gorgeous Christmas Wreaths collar, and I was hoping for a nancyb collar for Mimi! I will post a picture of Mimi in the collar as soon as I can. Thank you again! Here is the collar (green):
  2. I'm sorry. We lost Buckwheat last year at about 12 years of age. He went into heart failure, so he went pretty quickly and we didn't have to deal with the incontinence and lameness issues. He ate breakfast the day he died. But we noticed the gradual decline the last couple of years -- he got more neurotic, possessive, hearing loss, and stiffer in the joints. It just sucks knowing they don't live forever.
  3. Dear SS, I'm sure Mimosa will be happy with whatever is in her stocking, except for coal. She has been a relatively good girl this year. Please ignore the time she got into the bag that contained used cat litter that mom forgot to take to the garbage (ewwww), and the 4329 tissues and paper towels that she tore up this year after she stole them out of the garbage. She is also an equal opportunity stuffie collector, and likes to take hers, as well as DD's stuffies and dismember them. I'll do my best to answer your questions. Is it cold enough at night for Mimosa to wear Pajamas or a coat? It is pretty warm here in Florida, but we get our share of cold. Mimosa has a "hoodie" (not really a hoodie, because there is no hood. Mimi's has a hood. Mimosa's has a turtleneck. It's a fleece "jacket" in Florida Gators (we are die hard Gators fans!) orange and blue that keeps her warm when it gets down to the 40s. Much colder than that it doesn't do much good. Mimosa has pajamas in fleece, BUT they don't fit her well. They have long sleeves and are too tight in the shoulders, so she doesn't like them. I recently got Mimi a pair of Cottage Hound Designs flannel jammies in an auction and they are so nice! They are lighter weight than the fleece, and I think will be more comfortable than the fleece, since they are more like a "nightgown" than a jacket. It hasn't been cold enough here for her to wear them yet. Mimosa would LOVE a pair of those! They are the 2 leg type. (there is a cute pattern that is lavender/purple with monkeys on it...)But they have to fit BIG! What is Mimosas favorite snack? Mimosa is a little picky with her kibble, but hasn't turned down a snack yet. She doesn't do well with rawhides. She loves any kind of biscuit. What colors does Mimosa prefer? She hasn't said, but I think she looks great in pink and purple. Gator Orange and Blue are always appropriate as well. If Mimosa was stranded on an island, what 3 things would she want to have? Her bed, her food, and her mom! Does Mimosa need a collar? Does she prefer jewelery? Does she NEED a collar? Define need. Mimosa has a Christmas collar (compliments of last year's SS). She also has collars for Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, a spring collar that is green with white dots, a yellow hibiscus collar, and a Lupine collar that she came home in. I might be forgetting some others. The only collar that I consider a need that she doesn't have is a Gator collar! And no, she doesn't like jewelry. What color does Mimosa like least? Yellow doesn't seem to be her color. She also doesn't like colors of opposing college teams. So please, no FSU Crimson and Gold, yucky Tennessee orange (it's a wimpy shade of orange), or Georgia black and red. What is her style? Is she more girly-girl, diva, sporty, or tom-boy? Girly girl. She does look sporty in her Gator garb though! Does Mimosa have a nick name? Mimosa's racing name is Mimosa Grove. Her nickname is Mosa Grove or we often call her Mimosa Grove. If she were human, she would be a Mary Beth or something else with 2 names. If Mimosa travelled around the world, what would be her favorite vacation spot? Somewhere with a 5 star hotel and a dog park. Can you post a favorite picture of Mimosa? A favorite picture? There are too many! Here's my latest favorite. She did NOT want her picture taken to show off her new Turkey collar So you can get an idea of what all of her looks like Silly girl And my favorite pic of my 2 girls, Mimi and Mimosa (Mimi has her own SS this year) Sincerely, Mimosasmom
  4. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's especially hard when you go thru the same disease again. Run Free, Baby

    Oh NO! I'm so sorry
  6. touristy stuff is good too! I personally would love to get stuff from DC -- pen, snowglobe, ornament, heck -- even a postcard depicting national monuments or other items from our nation's history would be great! Also, you could see if there are stores that are popular in your area that are not in your recipient's area. For instance, we don't have Tim Horton's coffee here. I've never tried it. It would be great to get a sample....
  7. Mimi would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have a certain Christmas collar from NancyB. It's called Festive Trees (green). OK so Mimi really doesn't care, but her Mom would love to see her in that one! Mimosa has NancyB's Wreaths collar that her SS chose for her last year and it looks stunning on her. Both Mimi and Mimosa love cookies and stuffies. ( I hate any stuffie that giggles.) I'm a little weirded out over pizzle sticks and still haven't given them last years' pizzley gift.... I'm with Doofbert, I like to get things from the sender's hometown. Last year we got some great cookies from a local dog bakery. They got 8 paws up! Notepads and greyhoundy gifty stuff.
  8. I'm so sorry for your loss. Run free sweet Peatie. I never met you, but I will miss you.
  9. Tail update: I took Mimosa and Mimi to the vet today. They were both due for semi-annuals in about 3 weeks, so I figured this was a good time. Mimosa's tail injury is just an abrasion. The vet said to let it heal on its own. There is not enough skin there to stitch and it should heal itself in about a month. If she licks at it a little, that is OK. He gave me some Panalog ointment to apply twice daily to prevent infection.
  10. Thanks for mentioning that. I just checked the label. It's Libby's 100% pure pumpkin. Ingredient: Pumpkin. But it IS pie pumpkin too. There is a recipe on the back of the can! Next question: How long does pumpkin keep? I have put it in a gladware container with a lid. How long will it keep and how will I know if I shouldn't use it? That's the right one. I give a spoonful every dinner. I go through a can a week. It should go onsale soon now that Thanksgiving is around the corner. I usually get 10 for $10 My girls are now pumpkin fiends! What size can do you usually get for the sale price? I paid $4.29 for a 3 pack of 29 oz cans at BJs.
  11. Both girls are due for semi-annuals, so I decided to take them both tomorrow and get the shots done and the tail looked at. We haven't had a Wagner pet to a vet since Tuesday... Mimosa is a primper and I don't think she will leave the darn thing alone. She doesn't mess with it a lot, but she gets it bleeding again. I'm not a nurse -- I'm a Respiratory Therapist, so I really don't know about wounds. I think it may need stitches, it's laced open pretty wide. I have visions of her coming home with an E-collar or huge amount of padding so she will leave the tail alone. I know for sure that I am going to get DS involved in her care! He was going into my bathroom to visit Dash when he was sick and somehow Mimosa's tail got in the doorway (she was lying down) when he closed it. The real kicker is that Dash wasn't even home at the time. He had gone back to the vet for more fluids!
  12. I took this pic this morning. She is licking it and protecting it. Does it need stitches?
  13. Thanks for mentioning that. I just checked the label. It's Libby's 100% pure pumpkin. Ingredient: Pumpkin. But it IS pie pumpkin too. There is a recipe on the back of the can! 14. I switched the girls to Natural Balance Ultra Premium. Since I have heard varying opinions on switching quickly vs. a gradual change, this time I pretty much switched cold turkey. They got the big D. Yesterday I added some pumpkin to their meals, and I am happy to say that things are firming up quite nicely. I bought the pumpkin at BJs and could only get a 3 pack of large cans. (I figure I will attempt to make some pumpkin bread). I don't like to waste food. How long can I give them the pumpkin? Will it cause constipation?
  15. Wow I've never been number 300 before!!!! What do I win???

  17. It looks worse than I thought it would -- looks like it's open to the bone, but I guess that it's not that far to go. It was still bleeding a tad when I got home. She wouldn't keep the bandage on. When DH picked up Dash from the vet, he asked what should be done, and they said to make sure it is clean and doesn't get infected. There is some skin hanging a little. She is licking it, which at this point I think is a good thing. I'll see what it looks like in the morning...
  18. DS called DH all upset. He had accidentally caught Mimosa's tail in the door, about 3 inches from the tip. It was bleeding, but she is not crying or whining and she is a drama queen. He got out my first aid kit and put a small bandage on it (yay for my Boy Scout!) and now she is resting quietly. Naturally I am at work until after 7 pm. DH can't leave work, because he already has to leave work early today to pick up Dash. It's over an hour round trip from his work to home then vet. Argh! How worried do I need to be?
  19. So if he eats a match now, is that an issue?
  20. I would love to talk to their vet. I would like to give the vet a history on my cat, instead of just checking the box "has your pet had any of the following symptoms...." But the vet was too busy to talk to me. I was promised a phone call. I had to call them. Now I am waiting for them to call me back. I have a feeling that at 4:30 the urinalysis will have come back and we will be nowhere as far as why Dash isn't eating. They close at 5. I have a regular vet and will now be taking Dash there tomorrow because if they try to tell me he is diabetic based on a glucose of 201 I will not buy it. I was afraid to wait another 24 hours because a cat cannot go for more than 24 hours without eating or they will develop liver problems.. I will be contacting Banfield customer service about their lack of compassion and communication. Why advertise "walk-ins welcome" and "emergencies handled" if you are going to handle it as just another customer?
  21. I took Dash to Banfield this morning when they opened at 10. I did not have an appointment. A cat not eating is an emergency. The girl at the counter told me to fill out a form, then handed me another form to fill out to drop him off. I told her I wanted to wait, and she said "well you don't have an appointment and it's a Sunday and we are very busy. Besides, if it is going to take more than 15 minutes we are supposed to handle it as a drop off." I told her I needed to speak to the vet to give a history, and she said "Well she can't just drop everything and come see you, she is seeing other sick pets". She then presented me with an "estimate", bloodwork, urinalysis, fluids if necessary and xrays. There was a charge on there for $28.50 for a restraint/holding fee! I about puked. Total $475 PLUS medication if needed. At that point I was ready to take Dash and run, but got to thinking that 24 hours might make a huge difference for him, and that it would be best to leave him, rather than wait until tomorrow to see our regular vet. Told her to get bloodwork, urinalysis and fluids if necessary, and gave her all his records to copy. I was told the earliest I would get a call was 11:30. At 1:15 I called them. His liver enzymes are normal, but his glucose is elevated. Now waiting on urinalysis. They have had him since 10 am and I have NEVER spoken to or laid eyes on a vet! NEVER AGAIN!!!!
  22. I'm going to take my cat Dash to Banfield this morning. Not real happy about it, but I think it will be less expensive than the E-vet. Does anyone know if their Wellness plans run for a calendar year (Jan-Dec), or are they for 12 months from when you get them? Do you have to sign up for the plan before you are seen? I know Dash will need bloodwork, maybe urinalysis, and probably fluids. If it's all covered, a year's worth of Wellness plans might be less expensive for 1 visit.
  23. I'm so sorry. I was heartbroken when I read the title of the thread and can't believe this special little girl was taken so soon. I feel such a sense of loss for a dog I've never met. Cathie, Bill, Jenn, Eric, Chris, I can't imagine what you must be feeling. Having recently lost a pet suddenly, I think I can relate though. God must have needed a little imp in heaven.
