  1. If a dog has had its spleen removed for one reason or another, is this kind of the same thing as with humans.....fairly harmless but might need to be more careful not to expose themselves to things that can give them infections? Or is it more serious for a dog? Or less serious? Or completely "not to worry"? Any experience with this, please weigh in. Thanks

I am sorry about your loss. Pets are special...
  3. I've read the Bible through many times and don't remember anything saying specifically animals do not have souls. I believe what your son may be hearing is dogma (no pun intended) which is my only problem with organized religion (and what leads to the HATE part of things). Now you face the fun part which is to help him learn to THINK CRITICALLY about things he hears at school and to ALWAYS continue to ask you a lot of questions and then finally....go to the source..the Bible itself and THEN formulate opinions and thoughts. It's hard to explain to kids the difference between dogma and what actually IS written and I salute you for remaining open to dialog with him. P.S. Soapbox - "Or Who Cares What You Believe But Here it Is Anyway": animals DO have souls, they go to a good place when they die and I hope that I can be united with all my animals when I go.
  4. Sympathy to you, Mary...a long and good life he had.

  12. Here are the pictures. I'm sorry they are fuzzy, but I don't have a high tech camera. Here you can see the toe was amputated down to the ?knuckle? I guess you'd call it? All 4 pads accounted for: More in next post.... P.S. Sorry about the awful state of my pet's nails. Time to break out the Peticure that we got for Christmas Mas de. A view from the top with the pad sort of sticking up. Yes, the pad got left. I have no idea why this was done this way but the word is that it has never bothered him in the least. He raced with the toe amputated (AA as a matter of fact) and it's never once impeded him from running and playing. So, I guess we've had a "good experience" if you can call it that. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  13. okay. i am a lugnut - how do you amputate the toe and not the pad? and thanks for responding. I have no idea. It was like that when I adopted him. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and add to the post so that you can see what it looks like.
  14. Howie has the 3rd toe amputated on his right front and it has never slowed him down. The toe was COMPLETELY amputated, but not the pad. He raced with it like this, too. No problems at all.
  15. Heart of Texas does a great job of testing for cat and small dog safety. I would let them help you introduce to hounds they know to be small dog safe (or at least highly workable) and then let your PUP pick who HE wants. The choice may surprise you. Sometimes what they've shown with other breeds is completely different with the hounds in terms of whether they'll be ok with a male or a female. Lots of people who insisted they had to have a female went out the door with a male and vice versa.
  16. Please see the vet. You may need antibiotics. Raisin Bran got this several years ago and it knocked her completely on her a**. You do NOT want to mess around with it. She was never able to gain back the weight she lost either . Bad, bad stuff. Go to the vet.
