His eyes look down on me from pictures above the desk, and his memory is all around us. As I sit in the computer foom, I'm surrounded by three dogs and know that it is because of Joe that Angel, Festus and Sunscreen Man are here with us. Roscoe, the neighbors lab is also lying here on the floor after playing with these three - like he used to play with Joe. He taught Joe to bark! But Joe only barked when he needed to, and was a gentleman all his life. He was the most amazing dog I've ever met, and I will miss him forever. Here's Joe when we first brought him home in 1993. Forevermybabies Posted August 11, 2003 Author Share Posted August 11, 2003 Just as an aside, when Joe was put down, the vet came to our house, and it just seemed to take SO long for his heart to stop (I've since heard that with very old or ill dogs, this is often the case, but at the time it was excrutiating.) While we were holding him and stroking him, Michael leaned over and whispered in his ear, "Go get that rabbit Joe." And his heart stopped. And the oldest cat, Jezebel, who was very close to Joe, stayed with him until the end, occasionally licking his ear as he laid on the floor.
