cometdust1
Has anyone ever tried using classical music cd's for dogs to help with separation anxiety? Did it help at all? which one did you use?
FiveRoooooers
Janet Marlowe's ZenDog CD is playing for my campers right now. I once heard Janet speak and she was very convincing about how the tones are created and put together specifically for calming our dogs. I've had this CD for years and I would say that it has had a calming influence on my campers. Quote Old Dogs are the Best Dogs. Thank you, campers. Current enrollees: Punkin. EnzaFerrari
I leave NPR on for my girl. She never had separation anxiety but I have myself convinced that the voices help. Plus I like that I can drown out the outside noise.

Roo
I use a meditation music station on Pandora (called "Liquid Mind Radio"). I used Classical when I first brought Eli home, but some of the songs got really...loud and excited, so I switched. He seems to like meditation music better! Guest Giselle
I've used the "Through a Dog's Ear" CD's for various client dogs with separation anxiety. It's based off the idea of "entrainment" or something. I honestly couldn't find the right studies that really backed the idea up, but I could see why it would help people calm down. Does it help calm down dogs? Mmm...I'd say the effect was minimal, if that. If anything, it was best used to mask other noises, which was helpful in reducing the dog's reaction to the environment. Guest team_tonio
We leave frank sinatra on for our boy. I too felt as though most music got loud or excited... this is calm and mellow.. but I agree with giselle and think it mostly just helps with background noise. He still loves it tho... Im convinced
Guest Snazzy_Chloe
We leave the TV on just as if we are home alone so there is no change for them. We have used the Dap liquid diffusers which helped two of our dogs, apparently they don't help everyone. The problem is the smell doesn't go very far from where it is plugged in so if they are not laying in a dog bed near it or in a cage near it I don't think it would help - but it may be worth a try. The things are plugged in and need to be refilled after 3-4 weeks so that is also something to consider - you don't want to plug them in and forget about it which would be a safety hazard, also don't want it at dog chewing on level either. Good Luck
Guest Jacks_Human
When I first got Jack, he was a nervous wreck, and music was really soothing for him. Actually I put my collection of Van Morrison on loop, and that did the trick. His eyes would slooooowly close, and he'd drift off to sleep. DocsDoctor
Not a special CD, but I used to switch the bedroom radio over to Classic FM (UK commercial station specialising in soothing classical 'lollipops') for Doc when I went out to to begin with. He soon got over his separation anxiety but still likes a bit of background noise when I go out, so now just gets BBC Radio 4 (mostly talk) because that's what I listen to first thing in the mornings.
