TINMANPDX
Hi all, I tried to search for this topic, but I couldn't find anything, although I'll bet it's just me not knowing how to navigate :-P I'm assembling a "home" greyhound first aid kit and would like to get some of your suggestions for essential items. In previous posts, folks have mentioned medihoney and pepcid ac - I don't have these, but they sound like good things to keep on hand just in case. We already have rolls of different size vet wrap, and the typical things found in our human first aid kit - what specific things should I keep on hand for my greys and what are they used for? Also - I keep a human first aid kit in the car and a roll of vet wrap - any suggestions for other stuff to keep in the car? OwnedBySummer
I also carry non-stick pads (usually found right beside the bandaid display) for putting on a wound under the vet wrap. In my car is also a spare muzzle which always lives there. I also always carry a spare dog sweater as they could be wet or shocky and need some warmth. And if this is a camping kit, I'd include a bottle of skunk de-smeller. Quote Lisa B. cleptogrey
as to the deskunker, years ago my welsh terrier found a litter of skunks while dh was flyfishing and i was sitting on a downed tree across the stream reading. he barked an unusual bark, faithful velcro, my scottie who was ALWAYS at my side, ran to see what was going on. well, the two were sprayed by immature skunk spray...but enough to make it really stinky. i left the dogs w/ dh and went to the local seven-eleven and bought what ever they had in tomato type juices and newspapers. returned to the stream and soaked both full coated dogs w/ it and lined the back of our new civic w/ newspapers and drove home w/ the windows open. generally i have been able to find what one needs somewhere while on the road. a can of tomato paste is small and will help, not as much as skunk wash but who wants to haul around all the ingredients? I don't mean the homemade skunk wash, with the hydrogen peroxide and the bucket and all that, LOL. I just mean one bottle of pre-made skunk wash from the pet store. Easy enough to take to a campsite.
